22.01.2022 Galungan, Kuningan and the Pandemic Galungan is celebrated by Balinese Hindu every 6 months in Bali, 210 days refers to Balinese lunar calendar, namely on Buda (Wednesday) Kliwon, Wuku Dungulan, its the day of victory for Dharma (Truth) against Adharma (Evil). The people of Bali interpret Galungan day celebrations as a day to bless the village, water, and society. Where Kuningan day is the celebration that falls on Saniscara (Saturday) Kliwon, Wuku Kuningan. The word Kuni...ngan has the meaning of "Kauningan" which means achieving spiritual elevation by introspection in order to avoid harm. Kuningan day celebrated precisely 10 days after Galungan. 09.01.2022 Story of our heroes Please meet our heroes Ibu Hariyani, Ibu Elliana, Ibu Supini, Bapak Siman, Bapak Mariyadi, and the Pecalang team from Banjar Anyar Kelod Kerobokan who has been so helpful during the long process of our food distribution. These individuals became our bridge to connect us with their community in Jalan Bung Tomo Denpasar Selatan, whereas the Pecalang team from Banjar Uma Alas Kelod, supervising the food distribution process at the AidHub office. They are ou...r front-liners who ensure that the community observes health protocol, assist in the completion of our registration form to observe social distancing, organising time and distributing process of our Sembako program. We realised that data collection can be a challenge when we found out that many of our recipients have limited education, especially the community in Jalan Bung Tomo Denpasar Utara & Jalan Kusuma Bangsa Denpasar Utara. It was revealed that about 70% from these communities didnt have the opportunity to finish elementary school so reading and writing was very awkward. Herein the importance of our heroes, working with superpower to assist their community to complete our registration forms. We are very grateful for their dedication to ensure that the information collected is as accurate and complete as possible. Their actions and behaviours are truly commendable since they have their own activities and responsibilities. 08.01.2022 Bali Hunger Crisis Continues In Bali, the number of victims of the Covid-19 pandemic hasn’t decreased. Health protocols are still in place and infections are contained into isolated pockets compared to 6 months ago. Apart from health impacts, other sectors are also affected. Bali which relies heavily on tourism is currently facing the lowest economic activity that occurred in the modern era. At worst, no one can predict when this pandemic will end. A few weeks ago, without pr...ior notice, we returned to visit the communities we frequently visit on Jalan Bung Tomo. We were shocked and dismayed, to find the homes demolished with building debris in the foreground. Construction was underway for a block of new warehouses instead. We tried to ask the community around the warehouse project and received information that the residents had been evicted and were currently living several hundred meters from their previous homes. We did locate this community and we were glad they "looked" just fine. But behind those cheerful faces, we could see the heavy burdens they carry. After losing their homes one month ago, many of the residents struggled to find replacement housing since the previous landlord only gave one week’s notice to leave their previous homes. Fortunately, new housing was located but at a higher rental cost. Under the current pandemic condition where work opportunities are tough, this situation has added another financial burden to their existing ones. We do our best to support these communities with our small gestures of food packs to sustain them for a week. We hope the situation will improve in Bali with more work opportunities, so that communities like these, are able to resume full-time work again. This specific community has demonstrated the courage of the human spirit at their darkest time and survived. We will share our data of this community to other NGOs and local government to bring more social support to these people. 02.01.2022 Beautiful morning to start our outreach program. We visited our friendly community on Jalan Bung Tomo 15X Denpasar Utara, where up to 40 families live in their humble semi-finished boarding units which rent for Rp. 300,000 per month. The working adults mostly work as scavengers, factory/construction workers or sand diggers for a living. Over 80% of these people struggle to make ends meet, waiting on the main road of Jalan Gatot Subroto Barat for work opportunities from trucki...ng companies in construction or sand mines. We are told that on average about 4 out of 10 people randomly get picked to work daily for 8 hours with a small daily wage of Rp50,000, averaging 10 - 15 working days per month. Prior to the pandemic, 8 out of 10 may get work for Rp. 100,000 per day. It is heartbreaking to hear these stories and cannot imagine how to provide food and basic essential for Rp50,000 per day to their families. When we arrived as scheduled, they were already waiting eagerly to offer their assistance to prepare for the distribution process. The essential values that we recognize from this community are their pride to their jobs, their spirit to never give up and their bond among the community to support and help each other, especially in this pandemic situation. AidHub Foundation created this outreach program to directly target the lower-level communities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. To date, we have distributed was 2,560 food packs which consist of rice, oil, eggs, seasoning and egg noodles to ensure their families have some nutrition during this pandemic period, which we alternate to distribute to these communities every 2 weeks. Our food packs are not huge, but these communities feel grateful that they are being included by society during this challenging period.
