25.01.2022 The #IIGC officially launched this morning, and we've had a deadly day so far - a traditional smoking ceremony, Indigenous performances and plenty of great Governance discussions. Our AIGI control room has been busy coordinating the live streams, and the crew from Wirrim Studio Burleigh Heads have been capturing all the action. Be sure to catch our stories for extra highlights!

23.01.2022 Today, the 13th Anniversary of the National Apology, is an important time for truth telling and encouraging Australians to learn about the historic issues still impacting First Nations people. Greater awareness, understanding and respect leads to reconciliation. It also leads to the recognition that First Peoples have the right to shape their own lives - with a connection to culture and guided by generations of Indigenous wisdom. Self determination and self-governance in action! Today is a great opportunity to listen to First Peoples, educate yourself and share what you've learned. Let's do this Australia {First page artwork by @beckfeiner_illustrations}

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Dr Miriam-Rose Ungunmerr Baumann, 2021 Senior Australian of the Year! Dr Miriam-Rose continued to inspire during her Australian of the Year Awards acceptance speech. "We have lived in this great country for many thousands of years. And 200 years ago we began to interact with white fellas. Since then, we have adopted to a new way of living. We learnt to speak your English fluently. For years we have walked on a one-way street to learn the white people’s way.... Now is the time for you to come closer to understanding us and to understand how we live, and listen to what the needs are in our communities. I hope you will meet us halfway to understand our issues, and help us make it better for our communities and for our young people." #ausoftheyear Miriam Rose Foundation

16.01.2022 Cultural governance may work in many forms, and it's often about finding out what works for each individual community or group. The Pintupi Luritja people created Purple House, a community controlled organisation providing dialysis treatment in their remote communities. The Pintupi directors describe their role "like a mother bird looking after the babies in the nest. Maybe one day they might be strong enough to fly away (from Purple House), but Pintupi mob will always be their mother, looking after them." (Extract from AIGI Our People Our Way)

08.01.2022 We're taking a moment today to ground ourselves in the abundance of spring beauty and recognise how lucky we are here in Murri country. Our thoughts also turn to our southern neighbours in lockdown, who may be disconnected from Country and who cannot even sit in nature for any real length of time. Though as Spring reminds us, we may weather the toughest of seasons, but we will all find renewal and bloom again....it just may be a later bloom this year. Tag your southern friends and family below to let them know we're all thinking of them

02.01.2022 What do you think of our new look? We rolled out a refreshed logo earlier this year, but then COVID struck and everyone went into lockdown! So we thought it was now high time to celebrate our makeover, and talk about how it came about. At the center of the logo sits the campfire representing governance. Surrounding the fire people are gathered, representing the diversity of First Nations people, as well as the 7 types of Indigenous Governance. The white circles are the ideas and perspectives that each individual brings to the table. The yellow dots are the ideas that are formed in collaboration. Give us a below if you like the new logo!
