25.01.2022 Strategic Fuel Breaks along the Great Ocean Road

24.01.2022 Smoke might be visible north east of Aireys Inlet today due to a planned burn in the Anglesea heath by DELWP BarwonSouthWest. See more below.

24.01.2022 WHAT IF? It's a hot summer morning. The wind gusts are increasing and the temperature is higher than predicted. Some of your family are at the beach, some are shopping. The Great Ocean Road is super busy, in fact it's in grid-lock in some places....... WHAT IF YOUR FIRE PLAN DOESN’T WORK? WHAT’S YOUR NEXT STEP? Most of us have fire plans, but many are under the illusion that the agencies will always be there to ‘sort things out’ and be available for every household. Th...is isn't the case. Bush Fire Commissions highlight the critical role of the local community in a fire emergency; a resilient communitynot a reliant community. The Aireys Inlet and District Association has organised an online workshop run by the highly experienced Anglesea resident, Jamie Mackenzie, a bushfire incident leadership expert who has worked in the fire incident area for 35 years. Jamie’s 45-minute scenario of a bushfire in the Aireys Inlet area will take the community through what might be expected on a fire day with Victoria Police, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Aireys Inlet CFA, Parks Victoria, DELWP and Surf Coast Shire outlining their respective roles in such a bushfire situation and their contingency plans for traffic management, road closures and evacuation. There will be ample time for questions after. The Surf Coast is an area that is threatened by bushfire and being fully prepared is essential for every community member. EVENT: WHAT IF? WHEN: Thu., 26 November, 2020 FORMAT: Webinar REGISTRATION: Eventbrite At: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/what-if-tickets-126752334645 #CFAVIC

22.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the Spark in the Dark event this evening. We appreciate those who are thanking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As todays conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits.... If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

22.01.2022 When did you last check your smoke alarms? Are they over 10 years old? Could be time to update to a lithium powered alarm which means you wont have to change the battery each year for the life of the alarm. Read more: https://bit.ly/2ZSp95U

21.01.2022 Each year we see an increase in the number of chimney fires from both fireplaces and wood heaters. Keep your home safe this winter by checking your chimney: Use a torch to check for creosote build-up or obstructions like bird nests. Have your chimney professionally cleaned annually.

20.01.2022 Today Aireys Inlet CFA responded to assist Ambulance Victoria with a patient that had fallen near Sunny Mead beach in Aireys Inlet with CFA support from Anglesea and Geelong Rescue, Lorne SES, Police, Parks Victoria and Ambulance Victoria (including their air ambulance). The patient was successfully medi-vacd to hospital and we wish her a speedy recovery. #weworkasone #cfavic

19.01.2022 Bambra, Wensleydale and surrounding area residents may see or smell smoke from the ignition of a planned burn this weekend. The Bambra - Lyons Road planned bur...n is around 17 hectares and is focussed on developing a fuel reduced area to the North of Aireys Inlet. Our crews are adhering to appropriate social distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state. 40 FFMVic personnel will be on the ground during the burn, that may take 3 days to complete. We encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern, under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary, in consultation with Victorian Department of Health and Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Emergency Management Victoria. To find out when and where planned burns are happening near you go to www.vic.gov.au/plannedburns or call 1800 226 226.

18.01.2022 Radiant heat is the biggest killer during a bushfire. Leaving early is always your safest option.

17.01.2022 Have you felt todays wintery blast? With more people indoors, and the weather cooling down it is more important than ever to ensure youre safely heating your home. Keeping flammable materials away from heaters and open flames will help keep your home safe (and warm).

17.01.2022 Hands up who doesnt want to go outside to hang their washing in this cold weather Remember if you are drying your laundry inside, to always keep it at least 1 metre from the heater.

16.01.2022 Is today the day to clean out your gutters?

In the mean time, the CFA has many resources available on its website and rest assured the brigade has been plannings its summer preparation for some time in this new COVID world.

16.01.2022 Overnight the Great Ocean Road was closed at the Moggs Creek bridge due to the new bridge works by Regional Roads Victoria. This was one of many monster loads bringing in the new concrete spans. Rest assured we plan for this too with our members relocating one of our trucks to the Lorne side of the bridge overnight with a dedicated crew on standby to turn out from this location if required. Thanks team #cfavic

10.01.2022 Flashback to this time last week when Aireys Inlet CFA were paged to attend a grass and scrub fire in Gherang. This job required a number of resources from across the district due to the wooded landscape when a private burn off escaped. 04.01.2022 The VicEmergency app is important to have on your phone so you can be alerted to any fire danger in your area. However we know many people end up turning their alerts off as they don't know how to set it up properly and get too many annoying notifications. The following website has links to video tutorials that teach you how to create a watch zone and adjust the alerts that you receive so you only receive the important notifications for where you live. ... If you watch the tutorials on a laptop or tablet, then you can make the adjustments on your phone as you go. https://vicemergency.zendesk.com//235018528-Video-tutorial

04.01.2022 Fire Danger Period for the Surf Coast starts in one week at 1:00am on Monday 14th December. If you are planning a burn off on your property in the next week, please register your burn at the following newly-launched website: https://firepermits.vic.gov.au/

03.01.2022 Next week, DELWP BarwonSouthWest will be starting work on approximately 35 kilometres of new Strategic Fuel Breaks (SFBs) and important hazardous tree removal around Lorne, Aireys and Anglesea. SFBs will give us a better chance to defend our townships and with a reducing window to safely conduct planned burns, initiatives like this are vital to reduce bushfire risk. In 2020, one fuel break will be established near each township to provide our community an opportunity to see f...irsthand what they will look like, with all works expected to be completed by early 2021. More information below: https://fb.watch/1zn-6aW6HR/

You can watch the meeting live: https://webcast.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/ Or it will be recorded for viewing later.

02.01.2022 Some important information on burning off from Surf Coast Shire and the CFA. Keep us safe please this Easter.

01.01.2022 In response to confusion and questions from our community, we clarified with the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services that Melbourne residents curren...tly in the Surf Coast Shire with emergency preparedness permits for their properties in the region are able to partake in dining (eat-in as well as takeaway) and retail shopping, but are not permitted at gyms. Anyone travelling from a restricted area (such as Melbourne) to a non-restricted area (such as regional Victoria) must comply with the restrictions of their home location (Melbourne) while in the other area (regional Victoria). Limited indoor and outdoor dining is allowed both in Melbourne and regional Victoria, so the same rules apply in both locations for those with emergency preparedness permits and we hope they feel welcome here after enduring such a long lockdown to keep us all safe.
