06.01.2022 Walnuts - not as many calories as you think! New research from Baer et al at the U.S. Department of Agriculture suggests a 28 gram serving of walnuts contains 146kcal which is 21% less than previously thought. The amount the walnuts are chewed before they are digested and the digestion of the nut itself are some of the factors that may have impacted the results. Research from a 2015 study undertaken by Njike et al suggests including walnuts in the diet can improve diet quality measured by the Healthy Eating Index. Improvements in total cholesterol levels were also demonstrated.
