24.01.2022 We wanted to give our rental kitchen a mini makeover by replacing the metal door handles with beautiful timber ones. We made our door handles out of scrap Victorian Ash hardwood that we had lying around our workshop. This is a super easy, quick and budget-friendly DIY home improvement project that you can whip up in an afternoon.... 24.01.2022 I spied these beautiful banksias on @blossom_and_the_bee Instagram this morning and before I knew it I had them in our home this is our bed that has been a work-in-progress for SO long! We started off with building a frame, then adding a headboard, we now have side tables but no drawers... as the old saying goes...

For this week's DIY Project as part of our Christmas Gift Guide Series we thought we'd make a nice BIG Grazing Board that is perfect for those who love to entertain (like us). We created stands to stack the grazing board on top of to allow styling underneath - because what's a Christmas table without a bit of festive foliage?... This is a beginners project with lots of steps to learn or brush up on woodworking techniques. 22.01.2022 Big van appreciation post Ever since we started @al_and_imo_handmade we dreamt of getting a big fancy van, one with signage that made up look like grown ups doing serious business... Parked up at Bells Beach the other morning we stood back and looked at Stan our big van and grinned at each other like small children - we bloody did it!! ... Its important to step back and celebrate the wins, big or small because its these moments that keep you going. We cannot wait to take our van on a big road trip up the East Coast .... but like we said on the #alandimobreakfastshow last week, were focusing on what we can do - not what we cant do... so for now the carpark at our local beach will have to suffice. Our lives completely changed when we made the decision to move away from the city and start our own business... gone are the days of living for the weekend and doing jobs we didn't love... looking back, it's hands-down the best thing we ever did. We pinch ourselves that we get to wake up everyday, do what we love and get paid for it... we honestly feel like we are living our dream. ... It didn't happen over night though and it's been a lot of hard work... but we wouldn't be here shouting from the rooftops that you should do it too if we didn't love it so much. We love nothing more than encouraging other people to pursue their dream idea, just like we did back in 2015 after we made our first bed. 18.01.2022 Before we moved to the Surf Coast we used to spend every weekend driving down here to surf. We would wake up early Saturday morning and hit the road - stay as long as we could and drive back to Melbourne. And if the surf was really good wed wake up on Sunday and do it all over again. We moved here exactly 4 years ago and havent looked back. We absolutely love living on the Surf Coast, each season brings something exciting! ... Autumn - The Summer crowds have have left and the waves start pumping, theres nothing quite as epic as watching surfers run down the track to Bells Beach and paddle out into the massive swell during Autumn. This is the time of year when youll see the best sunrises and sunsets. Winter - The best thing about winter is that you can easily find yourself on a secluded beach, whether youre strolling, rugged up in a puffy jacket and boots or in a steamer running towards the ocean its a pretty amazing feeling having a slice of this incredible coastline all to yourself. Spring - As you drive into the Surf Coast Shire youre welcomed by fields of yellow canola flowers as far as they eye can see and all of the trees are in full-bloom with native flowers. The days are getting warmer, the ocean walking tracks and bustling, surf carparks and full and theres a joyful feeling in the air. Summer - Its busy, bustling and beautiful! A cracking summers day on the Surf Coast will find every beach packed and every restaurant along Torquay Esplanade full. Although summer brings the crowds and its harder to find a carpark we absolutely love it! The towns are buzzing with laughter and sidewalks coated in sand. 16.01.2022 Feeling super excited about our new schedule! If you caught our insta stories yesterday we shared that our #alandimobreakfastshow on Fridays will be switched out with a DIY video - which means every single week were bringing fun projects that you can do at home too! Why the switch? We LOVED filming our Breakfast Show, getting over the fear of putting ourselves out there and talking to camera has been a huge goal we wanted to achieve. The thing is we have so many things we w...ant to do (build) and we just dont have the time to do it all! Plus - showing up on camera at a specific time each week can be super challenging, particularly during this past season of loss and isolation. 15.01.2022 On yesterdays #alandimobreakfastshow we spoke about our tips for curing boredom and feeling good. Passive boredom fixes like mindless scrolling (you know when youre not even consuming what youre looking at feeling numb?) and the vortex that is Netflix are ok sometimes... but in the long term wont leave you feeling very good. We have a book that we write things down in that we want to do, we write them down as soon as think of them. Whenever we have spare time we pull the... book out and pick something to do. I guess like a recipe book... want a meal?, pick a recipe... Bored? Pick an activity youve already decided you want to do. Itll leave you feeling satisfied that youve done something youve wanted to do, plus you get the pat-on-the-back feeling of being able to tick it off the list. Ours is full of all sorts of things... fun stuff like new furniture I want Al to build and boring things like all clearing out our clothes, super, tax etc etc We created a worksheet with prompting categories and examples if youre feeling stuck and you can download it by following the link in my profile. 09.01.2022 Feeling grateful today that Al once said yea I can make you a bed. Facebook notified us this morning that we built our first ever (not very good) bed 5 years ago today and it made us realise how far weve come! It hasnt been easy but gosh its been a lot of fun!!!... Thank you to all of the legends who have supported us along the way, its because of you we get to wake up everyday and do what we love! 03.01.2022 Weve had this mirror ever since we inherited it from an old share-house. Weve always said wed make a new timber frame for it and we finally got around to doing it. This is a really easy and simple DIY woodworking project and the best part is its super cheap, particularly if you pick up a mirror off Marketplace, Gumtree or a thrift shop! Just adjust the measurements to suit your mirror or alternatively you can pick up custom-cut mirrored glass pretty cheap off a glazier. ...
