23.01.2022 COOKING WITH (RECYCLED) GAS Albany could become Australia’s first city to run solely on recycled natural gas, with a feasibility study set to map out how to harvest gas from a rubbish tip and deliver it to Albany homes. Under a vision backed by the State Government, methane would be collected from decomposing waste then treated and injected into the city’s existing gas distribution network.

The Denmark resident was this month stopped and searched by police manning WAs hard border with SA, where they uncovered a number of cryovac packages containing 570g of cannabis.

Our crews battled very rough seas and were success...ful in saving a precious life. Sadly though the jubilation that should rise from this is quelled because another person is missing. 12.01.2022 ACTION ON 'HIATUS' FOR 2021 Albany Racewars will not go ahead next year, with organisers requesting a hiatus for the event because of uncertainty caused by COVID-19. Since 2017, revheads have flocked to Albany Regional Airport for the annual event on the March long weekend.... Last year, the City of Albany council voted to sponsor Racewars to the tune of $105,000 over three years. In its place, Targa West Events will run an expanded program.

11.01.2022 MURAL A SALUTE TO CULTURE Pardelup Prison Farm’s Noongar roots have been honoured in a vibrant mural, hand-painted by inmates as part of NAIDOC Week celebrations. Taking pride of place in the prison farm’s visitors centre, the artwork honours Pardelup’s Noongar origins as the place of many dabchicks.... The piece was created by Pardelup prisoners and staff alongside Mt Barker officer-in-charge Sgt David Johnson last week.

09.01.2022 WHALE OF A TIME Keen kayaker Ian Watkins has seen plenty of whales around Albany in his time, but hes never had a day like this. On Sunday, Mr Watkins saw 16 whales during one session on the water at Cheynes.... The Albany man says he was surprised by how close some of them came to shore, describing them "playing in the waves". He tried to keep his distance, but as you can see in this footage, they werent all easy to spot. "You dont even know where they are with some of them," he said. "The whole day was just fantastic.
