25.01.2022 Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

25.01.2022 Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a babe wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:10-12

24.01.2022 FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT, 21 February "Grant, almighty God, through the yearly observance of holy Lent, that we may grow in understanding of the riches hidden in Christ and by worthy conduct pursue their effects." ... And when Jesus had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterwards he was hungry. The practice of fasting, which the Lord models for us during the forty days in the desert, and which the Church urges us to imitate during the forty days of Lent, is fundamental to overcoming vice and living a life of virtue. 22.01.2022 HOLY TRINITY SUNDAY. 30 May "Wherever there is love, there is a trinity: a lover, a beloved and a fountain of love" St Augustine

22.01.2022 OVERNIGHT ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest. (Mt. 11:28) When: Fri 30 - Sat 31 October... Where: St Joseph's Church, Albany Starts on Friday after 12pm Mass and ends on Saturday with the celebration of Mass at 9am. Let us consider the infinite goodness of Jesus. He became man for us, and spent 33 years on earth, doing good and healing all (Acts 10:38). More than this, He chose to remain with us until the end of time, hidden in the Blessed Sacrament, to be our friend and comforter and the food of our souls. He is waiting for YOU, anxious to heal your ills, to console you in your troubles, and to give you the strength to persevere in your journey towards perfection and towards Heaven. He is waiting for YOU to clear your doubts and strengthen you in suffering, to give you words of encouragement to banish your sadness and enliven your faith, to speak words of love which will light in your heart the flame of love for God. You can find all this on your knees before the Blessed Sacrament. Do not end the day without seeking a renewal of Christian strength at the feet of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. 22.01.2022 ASH WEDNESDAY, 17 February "Remember, man, you are dust and to dust you will return" Today, Ash Wednesday, we are beginning the Lenten Journey, a journey that takes 40 days and brings us to the joy of the Lord's Pasch.... http://www.albanycatholicparish.org.au///16/ash-wednesday/

19.01.2022 CORPUS CHRISTI SUNDAY, 6 June O you sons of men, how long will you be dull of heart? Behold daily He humbles Himself as when from heaven’s royal throne He came down into the womb of the Virgin.... Daily, He Himself, comes to us with like humility; daily He descends from the bosom of the Father, upon the Altar, in the hands of the Priest. - St Francis of Assisi (c 11811226)

19.01.2022 SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS - 1 NOVEMBER There are thousands of Canonised saints, that is, those individuals officially recognised by the Church as holy men and women worthy of our imitation. Because miracles have been associated with them and their lives have been fully examined and found holy by the Church, we have assurance they are prime examples of holiness and powerful intercessors before God on our behalf.

19.01.2022 ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI - 4 OCTOBER "All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle." St Francis, pray for us.

19.01.2022 FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY, 27 December "The home of Nazareth is the school where we begin to understand the life of Jesus - the school of the Gospel. (...) May Nazareth teach us what family life is, the communion of love, its austere and simply beauty, and its sacred and inviolable character.... Let us learn from Nazareth that the formation received at home is gentle and irreplaceable. Let us learn the prime importance of the role of the family in the social order. (...) From the address given at Nazareth by Pope Paul VI, "The example of Nazareth"

18.01.2022 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT, 20 December Mary said YES! Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done unto me according to thy word.... ""The angel says to Mary: The power of the Most High will cover you with its shadow. This is a recall to the holy cloud which, in the pathway of the exodus, stopped over the tent of meeting, over the ark of the covenant, that the people of Israel were carrying with them, and that indicated the presence of God (cf Ex 40, 34-38). Mary, therefore, is the new holy tent, the new ark of the covenant: with her yes to the words of the archangel, God receives a dwelling place in this world, He whom the universe cannot contain comes to dwell in the womb of a virgin." Catechesis by Papa Benedict XVI

And You shall renew the face of the earth. ... O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

14.01.2022 FEAST OF THE HOLY INNOCENTS, 28 December Memento mori: remember death We have only just begun the celebration of the birth of Jesus, and already we are confronted with the somber commemoration of Herod’s brutal murder of the little ones of Bethlehem.... For a Christian, celebration and sorrow, are always intertwined. The Catholic Encyclopedia explains that we cannot know the exact number of little boys killed in the massacre. Historical sources made claims ranging from as many as 144,000 to as few as six. As the global massacre of the innocent continues in our present age, one imagines a world full of Herods. Let us pray for the intercession of these tiny martyrs to intercede and to fight for the children of our own generation. Adapted from 1Peter5

10.01.2022 Please be aware!!!

07.01.2022 COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFULL DEPARTED, ALL SOULS - 2 NOVEMBER When once you have departed this life, there is no longer any place for repentance, no way of making satisfaction. ... Here life is either lost or kept. Here, by the worship of God and by the fruit of faith, provision is made for eternal salvation. Let no-one be kept back, either by his sins, or by his years, from coming to obtain salvation. To him who still remains in this world there is no repentance that is too late. St Cyprian of Carthage (c 200 - c 258) Bishop and Martyr, Father of the Church

04.01.2022 OCTOBER - MONTH OF THE ROSARY Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for our Holy Mother Church and for our country.... Sweet Heart of Jesus, be my love. Sweet Heart of Mary, at the hour of my death, lead me home. Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.

02.01.2022 DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY, 11 April

02.01.2022 COME HOLY SPIRIT! COME! We say ‘Come’ but do we consider what His coming means for our lives? The coming of the Spirit at Pentecost in power upon the disciples gathered in the Upper Room led to imprisonment, beatings, stonings, and even death...... We say ‘Come’ but do we understand what we are asking for? To say ‘Come’ truly is to expect a manifestation of the power and love of God that will make us alive in the Spirit but may cost us the death of our flesh. Only to have it rise again. To say ‘Come’ truly is to be willing to have our pride broken and humbled, no longer seeking our own glory but the glorification of Christ Jesus, no matter the cost. Fr. Francesco, CFR Full text - see The Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal

01.01.2022 FEAST DAY OF ST MAXIMILIAN KOLBE, 14 August "No one in the world can change Truth. What we can do and should do is to seek truth and to serve it when we have found it. The real conflict is the inner conflict. Beyond armies of occupation and the hecatombs of extermination camps, there are two irreconcilable enemies in the depth of every soul: good and evil, sin and love. ... And what use are the victories on the battlefield if we ourselves are defeated in our innermost personal selves?" - St Maximilian Kolbe
