24.01.2022 No braces! Before and after. Aligners are a discreet way of straitening teeth. The are quicker, cleaner, more comfortable and cheaper than braces at Albany Orthodontics.
24.01.2022 Worth the read. For sure. C.S. Lewis seems to have the answer to most things in life. Let us not "exaggerate the novelty of our situation": "In one way we think a great deal too much of the atomic bomb. How are we to live in an atomic age? I am tempted to reply: Why, as you would have lived in the sixteenth century when the plague visited London almost every year, or as you would have lived in a Viking age when raiders from Scandinavia might land and cut your throat any ni...ght; or indeed, as you are already living in an age of cancer, an age of syphilis, an age of paralysis, an age of air raids, an age of railway accidents, an age of motor accidents. "In other words, do not let us begin by exaggerating the novelty of our situation. Believe me, dear sir or madam, you and all whom you love were already sentenced to death before the atomic bomb was invented: and quite a high percentage of us were going to die in unpleasant ways. We had, indeed, one very great advantage over our ancestorsanesthetics; but we have that still. It is perfectly ridiculous to go about whimpering and drawing long faces because the scientists have added one more chance of painful and premature death to a world which already bristled with such chances and in which death itself was not a chance at all, but a certainty. This is the first point to be made: and the first action to be taken is to pull ourselves together. If we are all going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb when it comes find us doing sensible and human thingspraying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of dartsnot huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs. They may break our bodies (a microbe can do that) but they need not dominate our minds." On Living in an Atomic Age (1948) in Present Concerns: Journalistic Essays See more
23.01.2022 Ever wondered about teeth whitening? Immediately after getting your braces removed, your teeth may feel a little sensitive for a short period of time so Orthodontics Australia recommends waiting at least six months to whiten your teeth after getting your braces removed. 1. Over the counter whitening products These include whitening strips, whitening toothpastes, and whitening pens. While they are safe and conveniently sold over the counter, a major disadvantage is that due ...to the lower chemical concentration it will take a very long time before you can notice a whitening effect. 2. Home tray bleaching Home tray bleaching involves using trays that are custom made to fit the unique shape of your teeth. A whitening gel is placed inside the trays which you then put on your teeth to whiten them. If the whitening gel is purchased from your dentist or orthodontist, you will notice a difference within the first few weeks. If the whitening gel is purchased over the counter, it will take a very long time before you can notice any whitening effect. 3. Professional services If you are after the best results for you and your smile, you should seek professional teeth whitening from your dentist! They tend to use more powerful products that will give you whiter teeth in a shorter amount of time.
23.01.2022 Wow! Amazing voices!

22.01.2022 Friday fun! To celebrate Albany Orthodontics 5 year birthday with Dr Stewart Denize the first person to correctly guess the year this photo was taken (when he was a baby general dentist at his previous practice in Sydney) wins $100 off their account (if an existing patient) or a free orthodontic consultation (value $100). Good luck!

21.01.2022 Whether you are wearing 3M Clarity or Invisalign aligners this short video has got some useful tips! Hope it's helpful.
21.01.2022 Do you wear your retainer Well we hope the answer is YES as retainers are the most important part of Orthodontic Treatment. Once your dream smile has been created, a retainer ensures your teeth retain in that beautiful position.
21.01.2022 Yet more photos from Bremer Bay. May have got a tad stuck.... THANKS TO ALL THE HARD WORKING ALBANY ORTHODONTICS STAFF FOR HELPING US GET THROUGH 2020!!!!
21.01.2022 3M Clarity aligners $1000 less than Invisalign aligners for 2020 only. This is a specialist orthodontist product only. Your general dentist is not able to provide 3M Clarity aligners. Invisalign aligners still available too. 3M Clarity aligners are less visible than Invisalign aligners.
20.01.2022 Anyone know this man spotted at Albany Orthodontics today supporting Albany Light Opera and Theatre Company!
20.01.2022 Check out this news! Stigma around braces a thing of the past: New research from peak industry body, the Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO), confirms that attitudes towards braces have shifted significantly in recent years, with 7 in 10 children reacting with happiness or excitement to the news they need braces. The study of registered specialist orthodontists in Australia also found that:... 94% of orthodontists have experienced parents bringing their child in for a consultation because the child wants braces; 9 in 10 orthodontists have witnessed a child became visibly upset when told they didn’t need braces. With modern treatment options a far cry from the clunky and uncomfortable metal frames once endured by previous generations, the change in attitudes towards braces comes as no surprise to the ASO. ASO spokesperson and practicing specialist orthodontist, Dr David Mastroianni credits new technologies and the vast array of colours now on offer as the driving forces behind the big shift in attitudes. According to the Australian Society of Orthodontists, one of the most common questions asked by parents in regard to orthodontic treatment is around the appropriate age to take a child for their first orthodontic consultation. The ASO recommends parents book their children in for an initial consultation between the ages of seven and ten. Early assessment allows the orthodontist to determine what type of treatment, if any, is needed, and when it should commence in order to possibly reduce cost and duration of treatment down the track, says Dr Mastroianni. 20.01.2022 Did you know more adults than ever are getting orthodontic treatment now? If you are thinking about treatment, there are three key things to consider: **No referral needed you dont need a referral to see an orthodontist book yourself an appointment to receive an expert opinion. Its also important to note that for optimum care and treatment outcomes, as well as ongoing dental health, you should be seeing your dentist regularly throughout your orthodontic treatment. **Ar...e you seeing a specialist? ensure that you are seeing a specialist orthodontist by ensuring theyre a member of the ASO or checking Orthodontics Australias 'Find An Orthodontist tool to locate your most local orthodontists **Treatment options Whether youre considering traditional braces or an alternative to braces, only an orthodontist has the training, experience and expert knowledge to be able to offer you the full suite of treatment options and give you the confidence youre in the best hands. 19.01.2022 Our friendly therapists Kylie, Belinda and Kelsie are always here with a smile!
19.01.2022 Dont take a risk with you or your child. See an expert. See a specialist.
18.01.2022 A question we get asked quite often: Manual toothbrush or electric toothbrush? *Spoiler Alert* They are both great! More important than the tool you use is your technique - gently massage from your gums down to the edges of your teeth. Try and reach every surface of every tooth and don't forget the gum line, new teeth coming through and any crooked teeth! Flossing is also super valuable to prevent holes in between your teeth, which is where most holes start. Toothbrush bristles just cannot reach there!
18.01.2022 What a year it's been. Here's to 2021! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
16.01.2022 Good luck to our patient Emma!
16.01.2022 Kelsie and Kylie our star orthodontic therapists attending a course in Perth.
15.01.2022 Just a heads up: there are only 3 appointment slots left in 2020 to get braces placed; still spots left for aligners in 2020 and lots of availability for both in January 2021. Hope that helps, have a great weekend!
13.01.2022 Although we mostly straighten teeth, we are concerned with your overall oral health and work with your general dentist to look after the health of your teeth while you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment. Here are some interesting facts about oral health: - The most common dental diseases are tooth decay, and gum disease. Dental professionals are also trained to detect oral cancer and other pathologies of the mouth and jaws.... - 65% of Australians haven’t seen a dentist or orthodontist in the last two years. You should see a general dentist at least once a year for check-ups and preventative treatment so the right action is taken for healthy teeth and gums in the long term. - Over half the world (over 3.5 BILLION people) could have better dental health by making a few simple lifestyle changes such as better toothbrushing, eating less sugar and visiting the dentist regularly for checks and cleans. - Poor oral health is directly associated with major chronic diseases including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Diseases like diabetes, HIV, osteoporosis, Alzheimers, can make oral health even worse. And there are some diseases bad oral health can contribute to such as Endocarditis, cardiovascular disease and pneumonia. Make sure you keep up good dental hygiene, and maybe it's time to give your dentist a call!

10.01.2022 Belindas leaving party. A real loss for all of us!!
09.01.2022 Common orthodontic problems: What they are and how we fix them! Crowding: Disharmony between the size of your jaws and teeth causes teeth to crowd in the mouth, with teeth often out of alignment behind, beside or in front of all the others! Most people find crowded teeth very hard to clean and don't like the look of their smile. The solution: Crowding is generally fixed with braces or Invisalign. It is relatively common to need some teeth removed before braces so we have sp...ace to fit all the other teeth in and align them in a healthy way for your jaws and gums. ---------- Spacing: Disharmony between jaw and teeth size causes gaps between some or all of your teeth. Sometimes this can be caused by tongue activity or there may be spaces due to the loss or absence of teeth. While spacing makes it easy to clean your teeth, most people don't like the look of gaps in their smile. The solution: Braces or Invisalign can get rid of most/all of the spaces in most cases. We can work together with general dentists or prosthodontists if you have missing teeth or significantly smaller teeth than average. There are a range of options available! If you believe we can help you and your smile, please call us on 9842 3252. NO REFERRAL NECESSARY!

06.01.2022 Did you know that the act of smiling activates a series of neural messages that benefit your health and wellbeing? If you’ve grown up feeling self-conscious about your teeth and avoiding smiling at all costs, then having straight teeth through orthodontic treatment may make you want to smile more often. This will activate the release of feel-good neurotransmitters including dopamine, endorphins and serotonin which relax your body, reduce stress and potentially even lower your blood pressure ultimately helping to boost your mood and make you feel happier.
06.01.2022 Only available at Specialist Orthodontists. This is a very popular solution for adults who wish to enhance their smile without wearing braces. Book your consultation ASAP if you want to start in 2020. We are already booking into August.

05.01.2022 RAIN PHOTOGRAPHY COMP WINNERS ANNOUNCED Well winner actually. A HUGE congrats to Jarvis Smallman for taking out BOTH categories! 'Farm Life' & 'Out in Natur...e'. Jarvis (aged 13) submitted 4 entries over the 2 categories and they all ranked in the top 3. No mean feat when there were so many contestants. We didn't have a youth category this round, however we'd like to acknowledge all the fantastic entries that were submitted by youth. You certainly hold your own with the adults as has been proven here! We had 5 judges in the end due to the overwhelming number or entries. One judge commented on Jarvis's 'Out in Nature' images: "He's got an excellent eye for composition and his technique is great. He's a very deserving winner of this category and is a talent to watch into the future. I really like that all three of his images have looked beyond the magnificent vistas of the shire and have instead showcased some smaller residents that may sometimes get over looked." The winning 'Out in Nature' image was the dark spider image, thought to be a wolf spider from the Lycosidae family. It is titled 'Look at me'. The magic farming shot is titled 'Seeding stars'. Another judge commented "Fantastic photo showing the stars twinkling in the night sky, something we all take for granted." Our RAIN Chairperson commented: 'Special mention to Jarvis Smallman - that kid can take photos!!' We love these competitions for many reasons! They nurture our sense of place They connect community and our different sectors (farming/ mining/ tourism) They encourage getting outdoors & amateur photography They promote our unique environment which is why we form part of the Fitzgerald Biosphere They gave us something to smile about during Covid-19 Most of all we love that many of you enter not to win, but just to support these above causes & RAIN. THANKS COMMUNITY! Additional thank to the Ravensthorpe Community Resource Centre for supporting our competition. See you all next round!
04.01.2022 Very pleased to be able to support ALOTCo in our last charity selection - what a wonderful local organisation!
04.01.2022 Patient announcement regarding current regional WA lockdown: As long as you are not travelling from Perth, Peel or the Southwestern regions YOUR ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WILL CONTINUE AS NORMAL. If you are travelling from these regions we have already contacted you to make alternative arrangements. You can rest assured that Albany Orthodontics and the local Great Southern dental community continue to have strong internal protocols in place to prevent Covid-19 transmission.
03.01.2022 If there are any super satisfied patients out there can they post a review for us please! Google or FB. THANKS from the AO team.

02.01.2022 Where could we find staff of this calibre to employ? Hang on thats Jaclyn on the palomino and Liz on the chestnut out front. So proud of all of you!!!
02.01.2022 Another great result with aligners, this time in only 8 months. Before, then after.
01.01.2022 Digital smile design technology enables new ways to straighten teeth without braces. This is a 3M Clarity aligner case for some minor tooth movement in an adult who wanted to 'tune-up' their smile. The white blobs are temporary plastic attachments to speed up the tooth movements and the yellow numbers are temporary invisible spaces to expedite treatment. Give us a ring on 98423252 if you are interested in tuning-up your smile! Best of all it's faster than braces in most cases and these aligners are less expensive than braces at Albany Orthodontics for 2020 only. This case will only take 6 months. It's an exciting time to be an orthodontist!
