23.01.2022 Our bush season kicks off this Sunday with an Interclub near Chiltern. For those not familiar, we conduct eight 'Interclub' events a year in conjunction with the Waggaroos (four events around Albury/Wodonga and four near Wagga). Everyone is most welcome, the events are casual and friendly, help is available from experienced orienteers and there are courses for all ages and abilities. Wallace's Gully is a high-quality area for orienteering and the weather forecast is perfec...t - hopefully we see you there (and we get points towards the Interclub championship for everyone that attends so the more the better!). Event Details Event: Interclub 1 Date: Sunday, 22nd March Location: Wallace's Gully (see marker on OpenStreetMap and directions below) Start: 10-11 am Courses: Novice, Moderate, Short Hard and Long Hard (2.8 to 7.3 km) Cost: $7/$2 adult/junior members, $10/$3 adult/junior non-members Show Quoted Content Event: Interclub 1 Date: Sunday, 22nd March Location: Wallace's Gully (see marker on OpenStreetMap and directions below) Start: 10-11 am Courses: Novice, Moderate, Short Hard and Long Hard (2.8 to 7.3 km) Cost: $7/$2 adult/junior members, $10/$3 adult/junior non-members Directions From the Hume Freeway take the exit to Chiltern. At the stop sign in town (C377 - Conness St, the main road) turn left and follow this road towards Rutherglen for 3 km. Immediately after the cutting, carefully turn right into Depot Road. Continue for 300m and turn into the carpark on the left. What to bring drink bottle compass (we have some to loan if you don't have your own) good spirit! (not of the alcoholic kind...) Coronavirus At this time there is no advice to cancel events such as this. Both Orienteering Victoria and Orienteering NSW are cancelling larger events but smaller events are continuing with special precautions in place. We are fortunate that orienteering is not a close contact sport and that it can continue (for now at least!). We ask that you not attend if... you are sick or not feeling well you have been in close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days you have travelled overseas within the past 14 days For those that do attend, we ask that you practice good hygiene by washing hands, keeping reasonable spacing from others, not coughing/sneezing on people or equipment, etc. Contact

22.01.2022 As previously advised, the Interclub BushO at Wallace's Gully (Chiltern) this weekend has been cancelled. Instead, we have brought forward next week's final round of our Autumn Park & Street series. Why cancel one event but run another? The Park & Street is local, whereas the Interclub would have involved travel between regions and the current government recommendation is to avoid that. So this weekend will be a MapRun (GPS orienteering) event at Baranduda.... NOTE: There will not be a BBQ or presentations after the event but the local shop is only 100 m away so feel free to grab a coffee or something to eat. Event Details Date: Sunday, 22nd March Location: Baranduda (see marker on OpenStreetMap) Start: 9 am (mass start - please arrive by 8:45 for registration, etc.) Duration: 40 minutes Format: MapRun (GPS orienteering) Courses: Foot and MTB Cost: $5 adult, $2 junior Show Quoted Content Date: Sunday, 22nd March Location: Baranduda (see marker on OpenStreetMap) Start: 9 am (mass start - please arrive by 8:45 for registration, etc.) Duration: 40 minutes Format: MapRun (GPS orienteering) Courses: Foot and MTB Cost: $5 adult, $2 junior IMPORTANT: Please do not attend if... you are sick or not feeling well you have been in close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days you have travelled overseas within the past 14 days For those that do attend, we ask that you practice good hygiene by washing hands, keeping reasonable spacing from others, not coughing/sneezing on people or equipment, etc. Contact

15.01.2022 Hopefully you're still getting out for some exercise. But perhaps you're looking for something different or something to do with the kids? Good news - you can go orienteering! Several MapRun (GPS orienteering) courses are available in various locations. You can walk/run/ride the courses at any time and repeat them as you please. More courses will be added in the near future.... A list of courses and downloadable maps are at: https://awoc.org.au/MapRun Contact me if you have any questions or encounter any problems. As mentioned, we'll add more courses soon - let me know if you're able to help (it's not hard and can potentially be done sitting at home). 14.01.2022 2020 AWOC Christmas Park Orienteering

13.01.2022 The bad news... Following updated advice regarding sports events and discussions with Waggaroos, the Interclub BushO at Wallace's Gully this Sunday is cancelled. Consideration was given to holding it as a club event but we do not expect sufficient attendance to justify the big commitment of time required by the course setter. Please pass on this message to anyone you know who may have planned to attend.... The good news... You can still go orienteering! A local park & street event will be held on Sunday morning at 9 am. Details to follow later today. Contact

12.01.2022 AWOC club champs. Congratulations Peter Mousley and Alex Freire. Wet but not cold and miserable. The rain was welcome after such a dry period.

06.01.2022 AWOC END OF YEAR and CHRISTMAS FUNCTION It's that time again! We're lucky enough to be able to hold our annual end-of-season function at the Canoe Club.... We do incorporate a short AGM but don't let that scare you (you won't be pressured into anything!). A casual dinner and chat will begin around 6:30. Event Details Date: Sunday, 6th December Location: Mitta Mitta Canoe Club, Noreuil Park, Albury (see marker on OpenStreetMap) Time: 5-8 pm Due to covid restrictions we cannot serve our usual buffet-style meal, so it's BYO this year. A plate of cold meat and salad, small dessert and drink would be typical but feel free to showoff your culinary skills. There are BBQs outside although you may consider it will likely be very busy on a Sunday evening at this time of year... RSVP We should be okay with numbers given the size of the Canoe Club but we are asking you to RSVP just in case. LIZ. 0431778515

02.01.2022 A reminder of orienteering this Sunday... Event Details Date: Sunday, 20th October... Location: Mungabareena Reserve (start location map) Arrive: 9 am for briefing, tech assistance and short test course Start: 9:30 am Duration: 40 minutes Courses: Foot and MTB Show Quoted Content Date: Sunday, 20th October Location: Mungabareena Reserve (start location map) Arrive: 9 am for briefing, tech assistance and short test course Start: 9:30 am Duration: 40 minutes Courses: Foot and MTB The foot course will mostly be on tracks around Mungab, with some challenging navigation with myriad tracks in the area. The MTB course will be a mixture of the Mungab tracks and urban. Note: The mapped tracks are all passable but some are pretty rough - definitely not groomed! General Details How it works These are 'Score O' events - you will receive a paper map with controls marked as usual and have a time limit to visit as many controls as possible. Controls have different point values and points are deducted if you're late returning to the finish. But... There are no control flags on the course. 01.01.2022 MapRun GPS orienteering. Thought you may be interested in exploring nail can hill and discover places you haven’t seen. You can download and print the map if you like or just use your phone. The idea is that you can run/walk at any time to visit the marked locations and your phone will beep and confirm your course and location. ... In order to do this you will need to download the app, MapRun. Choose ‘maps near me’ and then the nail can hill run long option. The start is at the gate on top of Pemberton street and after clicking ‘go to start’ your course will automatically start and your course will be recorded. If this sounds too complicated please give me a call. Rick. 0417 562 321 See more
