25.01.2022 I just received my results for end of semester, unfortunately a bittersweet celebration in the wake of proposed staff cuts at QCA, Griffith University. While it is understandable that there might be some losses due to the current pandemic, these are concerning developments for the future of tertiary education and not difficult to see how this might affect the quality of studio based education and ultimately the value of the arts, should these changes eventuate. It seems likely that this is the tip of the iceberg. I found this post to be a very eloquent summary of the complexity of the current marketplace and encourage you to read & share.

22.01.2022 The body needs different things at different times! Sometimes it wants to move, to be still & to play. In order to get beyond fear & self limiting beliefs we need to let our bodies be breathed & to have what they want. 21.01.2022 It’s been a fun & busy few weeks leading up to end of semester, with only 2 weeks to go before assessment. There’s been lots of experiments & learnings & a few commissions. Here’s a bit of a glimpse of what I’ve been up to playing with colour & light. Stay tuned, new work coming!

16.01.2022 People often ask me how I learned to paint? The fact is, I continue to learn, to practice & play. Not every day is easy, or productive, but I have learnt a lot about living a compassionate & creative life. If you would like to learn more about how you can tap into your creative capacity, there are still places in my workshop, which is only 10 days away! More more information on how to book https://www.trybooking.com/BMMKJ

14.01.2022 Over the past 11 months while there have definitely been some challenges, I have discovered so much that is possible online, that I would never have allowed myself to try out prior to the limitations of social distancing. But nothing beats sharing a physical space with other warm bodies, even if we are 1.5 metres apart! I am looking forward to sharing some of the playful, embodied, art practices, that can support you in connecting with your own wisdom & the power of nature. @wonderdomesunshinecoast November 14, 2.30-7.30 if you would like to book go to @aleesartspace to secure your place

01.01.2022 I have been pretty quiet of late, fatigue has been back, since breaking my knee nearly two weeks ago. It felt good to finally get into the studio today, it’s been a huge fortnight, for everyone. Our world turning inward, time for change. Self isolation is the only way to contain this thing. My darling Naomi is unwell, I took her to the Dr this morning & we both had our temps taken at the door, then were ushered to the rear of the building. It felt surreal. The Dr thinks it is... just a stomach bug, but it’s scary just the same. We try to stay optimistic & are sleeping apart just as a precaution. For me, my broken patella is very painful still & makes it hard to move, to sleep, it slows me down, but I am not concerned, more grateful than anything, to be at home, with my family, to be in one place, to have everything I need, time to create spaces to work in, to contemplate, study, sort things out, write & offer sessions via Skype & Zoom. Mostly Ive been rearranging spaces, cleaning, washing, calling friends & family, clearing stuff out, making food, making cleaning products, in preparation, to be here for weeks, possibly longer. I am so very grateful for the medical staff, the teachers & other essential service workers who go to work each day & come home to their families, exhausted & get up & do it all over again. I am mindful of friends & family living alone. I am grateful for my FB friends & What’s App groups who post funny stuff, that makes me laugh & cry. For the beautiful card my daughter sent me which made me cry tears of joy, the flowers my friend Jo bought & left at our gate, that made my morning so much brighter. For our quiet neighbour who plays piano so beautifully & Blandy across the road who made us soup . Our darling dog, the birds, green things that keep growing, clean water, freshly ground coffee & ocean Gin! Please stay home & find the things you love, that support you through this difficult time, unless you need to leave to get food or medical supplies, don’t leave home. And if you can rest, reach out by phone, text, FaceTime, email, write a letter, make a card, a poem & send a photo to someone you care about, do what you can. We need each other more than ever See more
