25.01.2022 Not everyone will get this - but regardless its appropriate

25.01.2022 What Is a Holistic Nutritionist? This seems to be a hot topic lately, and there seems to be a lot of confusion. A holistic nutritionist has studied Nutritional Medicine, which encompasses studying the effects of nutrition and nutrient deficiencies on the body. Our studies are full time for approx 3 years, and very much science based, with natural therapies taken into consideration. Essentially its what we call Complimentary Medicine, which means we will work in conjunction... with your GP or other medical practitioner. We work differently to someone who has studied Nutrition and Dietetics, and we are also sometimes confused with people who have studied certificate level nutrition, who are also able to have the title Nutritionist. During a consultation, we will ask many questions about your current and historic health (physical and mental), and that of your family so that we can determine the best way to treat you. You may come to a Nutritionist for just one issue, but with proper treatment you are likely to see improvements in other areas also. There is also confusion around treatment for weight loss and gain. Yes we can help you with this, but we will still do a full initial consultation to determine if nutrient deficiencies may be playing a part in your inability to lose or gain weight. We will also be looking for improvements in areas that you might not have thought we could help with during the course of treatment. If you are unsure if we can help or if you are unsure if nutritional medicine is for you, then make contact and have a discussion. I personally am more than happy to have a 10 minute chat to discuss treatment styles so that you can make an informed decision. See more

24.01.2022 Are you struggling to get on top of health concerns, or struggling to just lose weight? A Nutritionist looks at you holistically and treats causes, not symptoms. By getting to the cause of health issues and adjusting your diet and lifestyle to suit you as an individual, better health can be achieved. Sometimes a nice side effect of this is weight loss. If you want to lose weight, a holistic Nutritionist can help you with this too. Weight loss leads to better health and sometimes you will see improvements in areas you weren’t expecting. Tracey works from My Chiropractor in Mackay and is available for face to face or Skype appointments. Phone 49531622

22.01.2022 Reflux or GERD GERD is inflammation of the tissue in the lower end of the oesophagus and is caused by a backflow of stomach acids. The most common symptom is burning in the stomach and/or chest, with long term problems leading to bleeding, ulceration and possibly cancer. There are many products available that treat the symptoms, unfortunately they usually come with many side effects such as headache, weight gain, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, dry mouth, drowsiness,... and in extreme cases stomach cancer. GERD is usually caused by diet and lifestyle choices such as smoking, coffee, softdrink, fatty food, and being overweight. A natural therapist will work with you to treat the cause, not the symptoms. Usually the side effect of this style of treatment is better health all around. :) See more

18.01.2022 Healthy Moods Did you know that neurotransmitters, which are directly responsible for our moods, are controlled by what we eat? Serotonin is the chemical that when released by the brain relaxes the body, and low serotonin levels are associated with depression. Tryptophan is the amino acid (derived from certain forms of protein) which is required for our body to be able to produce serotonin. For this chemical reaction to happen our body relies on certain vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids which are also derived from food sources.

16.01.2022 Summer Cold and Flu Season is here Did you know there are hundreds of strains of the cold and flu virus, and that once you’ve caught one your body remembers it - meaning you won’t catch the exact same strain twice. It’s inevitable we are all going to catch a cold or flu, it doesn’t matter how healthy you are. But how healthy you are depends on how long and hard you suffer. Low immunity is linked to vitamin and mineral deficiency meaning proper nutrition is so important. A Nutritionist can help give you the tools to build a better immune system and help you through the season

16.01.2022 September - Men's Health Month It's no secret males tend to keep their physical and especially their mental health issues to themselves. Specific dietary requirements for males is important from an early age to help with good overall health right throughout life, and these requirements change at each life stage. Poor nutrition can cause hormone imbalances in men as well as women, and if not treated can lead to major health issues later such as prostate cancer. Deficiencies i...n certain vitamins and minerals is also linked to poor metal health, as well as male infertility. A nutritionist can help you on the right path with a balanced diet and lifestyle. Tracey has face to face appointments available or skype if you can't get into the clinic. Phone 49531622. See more

15.01.2022 COVID-19 (Corona Virus) Just like any other virus, the harder you fall isn’t a reflection of how bad you caught it, it’s a reflection of how well your immune system is functioning to be able to deal with the infection. To help avoid infection, you can do the obvious things like ... washing your hands well and frequently cover your nose and mouth when coughing and sneezing. Immediately dispose of tissues, and wash your hands and use an alcohol based sanitiser Diet is extremely important to improving and maintaining a healthy immune system, but there are also some excellent practitioner-only supplements available that can help improve your immune response against pathogens. So if you are concerned your body isn’t performing as well as it could be, make an appointment today. As always your natural health practitioner ishere to help when you are ill, but what we really want is to prevent illness :)

15.01.2022 Interesting read - think of this when next tucking into your burger

15.01.2022 Supplements The range of supplements available over the counter is mind boggling. They can be expensive, and might not be a quality product due to lack of testing, or from being derived from weak sources. I see a lot of people in clinic who have a list of products they have spent a fortune on unnecessarily, simply because the saw it and assumed it must be good for them. How do you know if it's what your body needs? ... Do you know if the ingredients might have an adverse effect on other medications or supplements you are taking? A Nutritionist will only recommend a supplement if after a thorough consultation, it's believed your body is depleted of certain nutrients. A supplemental dose (higher than the recommended daily intake and in a safe range) is recommended initially to get your body back into balance. Provided your diet is balanced, you possibly won't need to take supplements in the long term. Usually a practitioner only product that has been thoroughly tested, and with proof of source viability will be recommended.

13.01.2022 Raw Nuts and Seeds - Such a small snack, yet packed full of healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. By adding only a small handful of raw unsalted mixed nuts into your diet each day, plus adding a sprinkle of sesame, pumpkin (pepitas), flax, and sunflower seeds over your salads or onto yoghurt, you are giving your body a boost in all of the essential amino acids (the bodys building blocks) your body needs. They are also packed with B group vitamins, Vitamin E and minerals whi...ch are essential for multiple body functions including healthy mood, energy and immunity, plus cardiovascular health. They also promote healthy skin, nails, hair and bones, and are powerful antioxidants.

11.01.2022 Nutrition tips for working from home. Mindfulness is the key to not overindulging while working from home. Be aware of boredom snacking, and if you are prone to sticking your head in the fridge regularly, have some readymade healthy snacks at arms reach.... Have a fruit platter; or some vege sticks prepared in the fridge with your own hummus or guacamole to dip into. Raw nuts and seeds are great to snack on and will keep you fuller longer, but remember they are not only a source of vitamins and minerals, but also a healthy fat source so just a few is enough. Drizzle them with honey and cinnamon and roast for 10 minutes if you have a sweet tooth, or for savoury drizzle with olive oil and chilli flakes, or soy sauce and garlic. With no travel time required, theres no excuse not to go for a morning walk or bike ride. This will give you energy for the day, but is also extremely important to support our mental health during these times. Breakfast is important to fuel your mind and body when working from home, and what a perfect opportunity to make some new habits like poaching an egg and grilling some mushrooms and tomato to set you up for the day. Have a giant bowl of salad prepared in the fridge ready to serve portions for lunches, with some leftover protein from dinner the night before. This will help to keep you satisfied and focused on the job which no doubt has distractions when not in your usual working environment. Lastly yet just as important, dont forget to drink at least 2 litres of fresh water every day. The body needs to be hydrated to focus and function, but quite often hunger is mistaken for thirst.

11.01.2022 NEW YEAR NEW YOU - DETOX The liver is one the busiest organs in the body. It works overtime to convert toxins from alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, the environment, and some foods we eat, to a form where they can be eliminated from our body via the bowel, kidneys, skin and lungs. Toxic overload is one of the main contributors to our inability to lose weight. Christmas and New Year holidays are notorious for adding extra, unwanted kilos! Overindulging in both food an alcohol, ...mixed with late nights, and holiday stresses can all be very taxing on your body. Kick start your year with a personalised detox program which will restore your bodys ability to eliminate toxins and assist the body in weight loss; heal your gastrointestinal lining to promote proper nutrient absorption (thus increasing energy); and reduce inflammation in the body. It will run over a number of weeks depending on your consultation outcome and include a combination of a wholefood diet and some supportive supplements. You will be feeling and looking a million dollars, plus you will also have learned some dietary tips to help your body stay at its peak and stay as healthy as you can be. See more

10.01.2022 Good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle is absolutely necessary for our mental health. This is an interesting article. https://educateinspirechange.org//research-shows-nutritio/

10.01.2022 Build a Healthy Immune System It’s inevitable we are all going to catch a cold or flu at some stage, but depending on how healthy your immune systems is, depends on the severity of an attack, and how quickly you bounce back. The best way to be prepared for the winter cold and flu season is to make sure your immune system is in top condition. Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals have been linked to low immunity, so it’s a no brainer the first thing to do is eat a balanced... diet, high in fruit and veges. Include green leafy veg (including parsley), broccoli, sprouts, citrus, raw nuts and seeds, avocado, and fresh seafood and eggs into your diet regularly to boost your intake of Zinc, Selenium, Iron, Copper, Folic Acid, and Vitamins A C E and B6 which are all known immune boosters. Regular exercise is also linked to healthier immune systems. Research has been conducted around the effects of physical activity and the effects on flushing bacteria from the lungs, but also on how it boosts the activity of our antibodies and white blood cells which are responsible for fighting disease. Getting a good night’s sleep is also important for us in many ways. In relation to our immunity, without enough sleep our body can’t make enough cytokines (a type of protein) which are responsible for fighting infection and inflammation. See more

09.01.2022 The importance of drinking water. Hydration is the balance of water and electrolytes in our body, and it determines how our body systems function. Proper hydration is essential for the body to be able to remove waste through our urine, assist in controlling digestive regularity, control body temperature, heart rate and blood pressure, maintain metabolism, plus so much more. With the warmer months quickly approaching be mindful to drink at least 2L of fresh water every day, with more if working outdoors or during exercise. A couple of the most common symptoms of dehydration include, headache, dizziness, dry mouth and bad breath, and fatigue. So if you experience any of these symptoms go straight for a big glass of fresh water.

07.01.2022 Get a Good Night Sleep Insomnia can be caused due to a number of reasons. It can lead to some serious health issues if prolonged, and is generally exacerbated by practicing bad habits. They say it takes 21 days to break a bad habit, but what are the good habits to replace them with??? A Nutritionist will look at your body as a whole, which includes your diet as well as lifestyle habits that might be the cause of your insomnia. They will treat you for possible nutrient deficiencies, look at the foods you are eating (or not eating), and give advice on good sleep hygiene.

07.01.2022 Looking forward to today’s Metagenics seminar on The Pathogen Puzzle - Navigating Chronic Infection and Disease Connection

05.01.2022 Essential Fatty Acids and the Omega 3 : Omega 6 Ratio Our body requires Omega 3 and Omega 6 Fatty Acids in the right balance to assist many body functions Omega 3 reduces inflammation and blood clotting, as well as Triglyceride levels in our blood. Omega 6 helps to regulate blood pressure and increases blood clotting. Our body can't make these two fatty acids and must be obtained from food sources. Unfortunately our modern western diet sees many consuming the wrong balance... of foods which is a major contributor to the growing concern around inflammation, blood clotting, increased triglyceride levels, and increased blood pressure, Makes sense when you think about it that way. Did you know there is a simple clinic test you can do to see if your ratios are within the desired range. Make an appointment today for this very simple health check. See more

05.01.2022 I have a space available at 10 am Friday 17th July for a 1 hour initial consultation. If you have any questions please feel free to message me.

04.01.2022 Two plant-derived micro-nutrients lutein (found in green leafy vegetables) and zeaxanthin (found in algae and gives salmon its pink colour) reduce frailty risk.... It's an interesting finding from a cohort study looking at adults aged over 50 (n=4068) in Ireland, exploring circulating micro-nutrient biomarkers associated with measures of frailty. Not surprisingly, Vitamin D3 deficiency was also associated with all three measures of frailty. As we all know a large variety of vegetables in our diet is very important to our health. However, we must always remember how RDI/RDA levels have been developed and that our needs as we age or become ill are much higher to be at optimum. For those who aren't aware, RDI were developed during war time to find the minimum for a young (18-20 year old) healthy male to fire a gun and be effective in combat and take two standard deviations above to determine the RDI. It's very difficult to apply this value to half the population and people not in peak condition and in that age group. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31401047

04.01.2022 Prevention is Better than Cure As natural therapists we are trained in complementary medicine and our studies are very much science based. Should you be experiencing health concerns, we work in conjunction with your Doctors to help your body get back into balance and heal itself to the best of its ability. In reality, our dream is to teach people how to be as healthy as they can possibly be and hopefully avoid modern health concerns, which sadly are becoming more common. We... don’t want you to be a statistic getting lost in the ever increasingly burdened health system. By working with a natural therapist we give you the tools to take responsibility for your own health. We look at you holistically, and help you find a path that suits you as an individual. We are all different, and there is no such thing as a one fits all approach. Don’t battle your way through the myriad of confusing information, get on board with a preventative health plan that is tailor made for you.

03.01.2022 Definitely worth having a say - it is so important that labels are clear and factual.

03.01.2022 Not everyone will get this - but regardless it’s appropriate

02.01.2022 This is an example of why Practitioner Only reputable brands are always recommended

02.01.2022 Another good reason to drink water

01.01.2022 This is truth - we have the ability to help our future generations

01.01.2022 Diet There are so many ways to look at the word diet. Depending on how you look at it, it can either have a wonderful meaning, or invoke misery and terror into an individual. If you change the way you think about the word, it can take away the negativity that surrounds it. As a nutritionist I look at your diet as the way you eat on a daily basis. It may be wonderful, it may be terrible, or it may need some tweaking. If you have health issues that are either caused, or exa...cerbated by your diet, I may look at changing the way you eat. For a few there might be permanent changes; but usually when I recommend a specialised diet program, its only temporary until your body is back to its optimum self. The plethora of faddy diets don’t support healthy weight loss, and generally aren’t nutritionally sound. If you start to think about the food you are putting into your body as providing it with the nutrients it needs to support your health, then you are on the way to changing your dietary habits, and improving your chances of avoiding health concerns later on. A Nutritionist helps by looking at your body as a whole, and you as an individual. They can help tailor make a diet lifestyle that is best suited to you, and will support you as an individual with individual needs. It will include real food that will support your body and change the way you think about the word diet. See more
