22.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who competed and helped out at competition yesterday. The open program meant that athletes could get some practice in for regionals, as well as ensuring that they could compete in their chosen events. In order to receive points in centre championships, athletes must have competed / participated at least 2 times in each event during the season as well as having a minimum 50% attendance. If you are unsure if your athlete has achieved this, then you ca...n log on to Results HQ and check - all results fro the season should be available. Next week will run on a similar format, but with walks replacing hurdles. Nominations for regionals close at 8am sharp tomorrow morning (late nominations will not be accepted) so please make sure you nominate before the cut-off time. We have less athletes nominating this year as compared to previous seasons, so it would be great to see the number of 'Team Algester' nominations go up. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, everyone... we'll see you next Saturday for our last competition day of the season, before we move on to the first of our Centre Championship days.

21.01.2022 PARENT HELPERS NEEDED With the changed program format for today, we will not need age marshalls. However, we are going to need HEAPS of parent helpers at events - raking, recording, retrieving, spiking and replacing the high jump bar (a minimum of 2 parent helpers at each high jump event needed as our high jump official is unwell). So, as you move through events with your children, please take the time to volunteer. Events will not be run unless we have enough helpers - so ...please take over from someone else when you arrive at field events. If you are happy to remain on one event for the whole afternoon, then please make sure you record your details with Simon when you arrive at 2.30pm. Sheets will be available at events so that helpers can record their details, which will count toward parent participation for the season.

13.01.2022 REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2021 Nominations are now open for regional championships, which will be held at QSAC on 13-14 February 2021. Athletes placing 1st - 4th in their event, or who achieve a qualifying standard, will be able to progress to State championships held on 19 - 21 March 2021.... Nominations must be made via Results HQ. Nomination fees will need to be paid by families (the club doesn’t cover the cost of nominations for regional championships, it only covers the nomination fees for regional / state relays). The draft program for regionals is below. It is still only in draft form, so it may change closer to the event. NOMINATIONS CLOSE 8AM ON 1 FEBRUARY 2021!

11.01.2022 VOLUNTEERS FOR TOMORROW U13 are rostered on to help set up this week (from 1.30pm), and U8 are rostered on for canteen (2.30pm). We would also love some extra helpers at the end of the day to assist with packing up. This means sticking around until the end and loading up the tractor. ... Please remember that you do need to help out with set up, pack up or in the canteen at least twice in the season as part of your parent participation. It's not enough just to help out once or twice with raking or retrieving (you need 5 of these to count for one 'help'). As we get closer to the end of the season, it really is important to make sure you meet the minimum parent participation requirements so that your athletes are eligible for trophies and awards. Don’t forget to arrive on time to help set up, and to get your name marked off on the volunteer sheet. Turning up at 2.30pm after everything has been done doesn’t count... For everyone who would like to volunteer as an event official or age marshal, please see Simon before 2pm to get your name recorded on our list and to grab your folders. Make sure that have your name recorded if you help out at events, such as retrieving and spiking, so we can update our records. There are clipboards and sheets at each event for you to be able to put your name down. A massive thank you to everyone who helps us out each week - we really appreciate it!

07.01.2022 A BIG congratulations goes out to Capri and Chanel who recently competed at the Ipswich Twilight Carnival. The girls are new to athletics - and also to our club - which definitely makes their successes at the carnival extra special. Capri placed 3rd in the U8's 60m hurdles and Chanel placed 2nd in the U11's 100m sprint. We think their smiles are just as amazing as their medals!... If you have any results or photos that you would like us to share, then please send them through to us. We love to celebrate the successes (and smiles!) of our athletes.

04.01.2022 PROGRAM FOR SATURDAY Please find attached the program for Saturday 30 January 2021. As we have now missed 4 weekly competition days, this week and next will be a little bit different. This is to ensure that athletes have a chance to meet their minimum participation requirements (2 in each event) for Centre championships - and for athletes to get some practice in before Regionals.... Athletes may participate in up to 6 events for Saturday’s competition. It would be advantageous if athletes were to nominate for their 6 events prior to Saturday via Results HQ. All that you need to do is login, and then go into nominations and click on the highlighted green tab beside Week 17 and click on your events. Payment is not required. There are hurdles included this week, and next week will be Walks. Our aim is that an athlete can turn up to an event and do their 3 attempts in a reasonably short time frame. They do not need to be there with their own age group (so age Marshals won’t be needed this week). We will need plenty of parent helpers and officials to make this work, so please volunteer whenever you can. We recommend that you ask your athletes which events they would like to do today / tomorrow and then alternate between track and field, making sure that you arrive a the track for the designated timeslot - this is set out in the pictures below. This is going to be a bit easier if you plan ahead so please take the time to look at events and their timeslots, and then perhaps write out the afternoon program for your athletes so that they know where to go. Once you nominate in Results HQ, you will get an email confirming your events, so this can just be printed out and the event times written down.
