24.01.2022 Allergies can occur when the immune system has undergone a loss of normal immune tolerance or dysregulation. This is normally due to a powerful inflammatory immune response where IgE antibodies are produced and binds with the allergen, triggering the release of histamine and other potent inflammatory chemicals (mediators) leading to common allergic symptoms. Refer to Diagram 1 below. The allergens targeted can be proteins in foods, chemicals, environment, people (I may have t...o explain this one in person), materials / fabrics, airborne particles, electromagnetic field and many more substances that we have contact with daily. Adverse reactions to food are also by non-immunologic mediated mechanisms. Also called food intolerance or food hypersensitivity, food reactions can occur because a person lacks digestive enzymes, such as lactase for the digestion of lactose in milk. Sensitivity may also occur to common preservatives and additives, such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), sulphites and gluten. Other adverse reactions may be caused by food-borne microbial pathogens and toxins. Food allergies can be severe and life threatening in some patients events, such as anaphylactic shock or severe asthma, making food allergies a serious condition. Common signs and symptoms of allergies can be highly distractive and annoying. These include: Swelling or itching of lips, tongue, and mouth Patches of swelling (urticaria, angioedema), atopic dermatitis, hives Itching or tightness in the throat Runny and itchy nose Headache Nausea, cramping, vomiting, flatulence, diarrhea, bloating Respiratory distress Moods changes, uncontrollable anger Sleep patterns Allergies are becoming more and more prevalent with children in the western world (not in developing countries) possible due to extreme hygiene including excessive use of antibiotics and vaccinations. Epigenetics plays a role where there is an increase in the severity of allergies through the generations. Preconception care can help with this. I have been investigating new natural solutions to provide better relief than ever before. The natural solutions include the combination of medicinal herbal formulas, NAT, clinical nutrition as well as diet and lifestyle recommendations. I have seen the elimination of some allergies completely and I look forward to helping your immune system to become more balanced.

20.01.2022 Preeclampsia Preeclampsia occurs in 5 percent of pregnancies, normally from 13 weeks, and can be fatal. This major cause of morbidity and mortality is diagnosed by a combination of increased blood pressure, presence of proteins in the urine and fluid retention of the hands and feet and can also be the body and face. These signs alone do not indicate pre-eclampsia, though you should still mention them to your primary health care practitioner. Of course, prevention is better th...an cure and many studies have been conducted to prove the efficiency of vitamins and minerals. A few studies found that the administration of 400iu of vitamin E and 500g of vitamin C from week 13 has been an effective strategy to reduce the risk of severe cases of pre-eclampsia by 72% (S, 2016). Vitamin E and Vitamin C have many other benefits throughout pregnancy such as immune boosting, prevents low birth weight, increases your energy, reduced risk of still birth and neonatal deaths as well as reduced risk of neonatal admissions. Many women diagnosed with pre-eclampsia were Calcium deficient, which lead practitioners to recommend calcium supplementation to prevent preeclampsia however, there is no evidence suggesting the success of calcium supplementation preventing preeclampsia (Leonelo E, 2016). This being said, calcium supplementation before and during pregnancy is extremely important due to the baby’s need of calcium to grow strong bones (prevents rickets and future osteoporosis as well as efficient contraction of muscles and nervous system support. According to Hyde et al, many pregnant women are not supplementing adequately with phosphorus, magnesium and zinc (other essential nutrients to build strong bones) (Hyde NK, 2016). Exercise is not only helpful to support healthy weight it is also recommended as a preventative measure for preeclampsia (Harrison CL, 2016). Yoga and gentle stretch and walking appears to be the most supportive during pregnancy. So, a healthy diverse diet, gentle enjoyable exercise as well as high quality nutritional supplementation may reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia in high risk women. Stay well References Harrison CL, B. 09.01.2022 A smile can it impact moods? According to a study in Sydney nursing homes, participants were involved in humour therapy sessions over 22 months. The results showed reduced anxiety, increased social confidence and quality of life. No significant difference was made with depression, however a psychologist in 1989 studied the effect of facial expressions and found that making an 'e' sound increased happier feelings. If smiling can make a difference try smiling as soon as you ...wake up. Don't think or plan, just smile for a couple of minutes and feel the impact. Smile at passers by in the streets of Sydney. Let us know how it works. References: http://m.bmjopen.bmj.com/content/3/1/e002072.long http://www.nytimes.com//a-feel-good-theory-a-smile-affects
