21.01.2022 PROJECT DETAILS . . . In 2019, Align Landscape Architecture (ALA) was engaged to develop a landscape design that incorporated an already-installed pool shell. The brief outlined a request for the design to include a concealed rear shed in the north-western corner of the property to house the pool services and other utilities in order to maximise the amount of useable green space for the family. The new shed was at a lower level to the pool, which presented ALA with a particul...ar challenge. Our solution was to build a raised deck level with the pool and to screen the shed with vertical steel architectural elements that would provide a canopy for a relaxed poolside seating area. Rather than introduce additional hard elements to provide the necessary shade, we incorporated a mature magnolia tree (Magnolia grandiflora 'St Mary’) by raising the level of the soil with a concealed planter beneath the deck. The strong architectural presence of the vertical slats will be softened in time as plants are encouraged to grow up and over it. Also hidden beneath the deck, is a custom pool blanket box. Great care was taken to ensure that the distance between the pool box and the concrete edge matched perfectly, allowing for full timber boards and a space where the lid could be lifted. 02.01.2022 PROJECT DETAILS . . . The owner of this stunning modern home approached Align Landscape Architecture (ALA) in 2019 seeking a landscape design that would complement recent renovations and provide a private garden sanctuary to entertain friends and family. The main view from the front verandah was orientated towards the entrance to the property and the useable open space was relatively narrow. An eye-catching pond and water feature was installed at the entrance with the help of... Gardens of Egan. This provided an engaging entry statement and unique focal point from the outdoor entertaining area. The concrete path leading to the house and the adjacent pond was formed and poured as one, and burnished and sealed to achieve a softer, more uniform look. Together, these clean concrete lines frame the central grass area and impart an understated elegance. From an aesthetic standpoint, it was critical that the sightline from the end of the grass continued to the edge of the water and this was achieved by setting in the pond wall. The client desired planting that provided immediate impact so ALA sourced and procured suitable mature stock from various nurseries. The planting palette is intended to reflect a preference for lush, green exotic planting.
