22.01.2022 Pittosporum sp. Have become a staple in many gardens due to their hardiness, unique foliage and their ability to be pruned into hedges. Although uncommon if they are allowed to grow into trees, they provide good structure and are easy to maintain even when grown close to buildings. 06.01.2022 You just can't beat a wattles flower show to signify the changing of the seasons. Acacia baileyana (as well as other wattles) have become a road-side-plant that usually go unnoticed until they bloom, giving you a friendly reminder that spring is almost here.

06.01.2022 You know Autumn is on its way when trees deciduous trees start putting on their beautiful messy display. Enjoy the colours before you are drowned in leaves!

05.01.2022 The variation of hydrangea flower colours varies from blue to pink/purple. This is caused by different pH levels in the soil with lower (more acidic) pH causing the flowers to turn blue, while higher pH (more alkaline) causes them to turn more pink/purple. This causes the flower colour to vary significantly from flower bunch to flower bunch even in the same plant!

05.01.2022 This wet spring has been ideal for plants but these conditions are also ideal for pests, so be on the lookout! This discolouration on the rose bush is a plant pest known as rose mosaic virus. There is no way to treat this disease in a plant, but to prevent it from spreading to over roses removal and destruction of the plant material is the only effective control. It should be noted however that it doesn't cause much damage to the plant and affected foliage can be removed if desired.

03.01.2022 Daphne odora is a small shrub that you will smell before you see it. They have been flowering recently in Canberra so if you are out and about and catch a whiff of something extremely sweet, have a look around and maybe you can find this plant hiding.

02.01.2022 Alot of plants that are used in gardens are two plants that have been grafted together to create one. This is done to get desirable characteristics, in weeping trees it is done to get a straight stem with a weeping cultivar grafted to the top. Due to different growth habits if you keep an eye out you can see these different characteristics growing together on the same plant.

01.01.2022 Abelia X grandiflora 'kaleidoscope' and Nandina domestica 'Nana' are two small shrubs that have a beautiful variety of colour, making them unique small border plants that brighten up any garden.
