25.01.2022 It has been so good for everybody being back in programs again. So much enthusiasm, conversation and laughter amongst our group. Today in Art and About, we completed our sea bird collage and created more cupcakes for a future project.
25.01.2022 Look at what Lisa knitted during the lockdown period with support from her mum. She is so proud of her beautiful creation. Well done, Lisa.
25.01.2022 We try not to have favourites, but Percy is hard not to love. These are progressive shots of Percy enjoying a scratch from Belinda. He was so relaxed he gradually went from standing to sitting to lying flat out!
25.01.2022 We are loving this fine winter weather. It makes spending time outside such a joy. There was lots of food in the crates today so the tubs are full to the brim, ready for guests to hand feed the animals. We also collected lots of kindling for the fires in the cottages. There were yet another set of twin lambs born this week and piglets scooting around, so we all got our dose of animal cuteness again today.
25.01.2022 A last minute change of plans today as the Surf Coast Shire Council has temporarilly closed the Re-Sale Shed. So, we had an outdoor day, soaking up the sunshine and breathing in the fresh ocean air. Very relaxing.
24.01.2022 Tuesday mornings has become our Zoom "Happy Art Hours" . It is great to see everyone and catch up on how we are keeping ourselves busy during lockdown. Whilst we chat, we also work on an activity. Today it was this. Anyone can give it a try!
22.01.2022 Glorious sunshine welcomed us back to the farm today. Great to be back doing what we love.
22.01.2022 In our Zoom Art session, we were all working on creating a very colourful Village. We all decided it would uplift our spirits if we lived in such a colourful place. Thank you to our volunteer, Terri, for hand drawing this picture for us to bring to life!
22.01.2022 We love hanging out with the animals, and particularly enjoyed meeting the new calves. It is so relaxing to wander beneath the shady trees and enjoy the rose garden.
22.01.2022 Another very productive day in Art and About today. We completed our collages in our art journals and began creating a fabric mache bowl. We also had a visit from our special canine friend Walter.
21.01.2022 We celebrated two birthdays today - Jodie and Rudy. Lovely weather for working and wandering. We are having temporary break for a while so stay well and see you all again soon.
20.01.2022 We love creating art! We enjoy all the many techniques and effects and are always blown away by the fabulous results. This afternoon we took our "maiden voyage" in our new All Aboard bus and checked out the waves at our local beaches. Jessie suggested last year that All Aboard needed a bus, and everyone was so proud and excited when we arrived in it today.
20.01.2022 We decided to have a dressup day during our Happy Art Hour zoom meeting today!
20.01.2022 Miss Rose's dance class on a Monday afternoon is generating so much excitement! This first photo shows Jessie's smile when we were talking about it this morning.
20.01.2022 Today Anna and Alex taught us in words and sign, how to bake bread. We are hoping we can all have a go at trying out this recipe ourselves at home. Macie was so excited to show us a lovely book made by her family, full of gorgeous photos and poems.
20.01.2022 I was so invested in working on our art today, I forgot to take photos! Fortunately, our newest team member, Bella, took some, mainly of Anna and Alex teaching us some of their communication signs.
20.01.2022 We are so excited! "Good News Detectives" have had our first article published in the Surfcoast Times newspaper.
18.01.2022 We are back, running programs whilst adhering to social distancing regulations. It is tricky and has taken lots of organisation, but well worth it to see all our wonderful friends again.
18.01.2022 Rudys birthday cake was a chocolate shell Coke bottle full of M&Ms. Thanks to Isabella for making that along with Jodies chocolate mudcakes.
18.01.2022 Anna and Alex still catch up via Zoom to work on Auslan signing and communucation. They usually finish their session with a song. Just had to share this snippet.
17.01.2022 Today in our Zoom Art session, we got creative with pencil shavings!! We each made an underwater scene, but you could really let your imagination run wild cteating gardens, fashion items, villages........wherever your curiosity takes you!
17.01.2022 I am sure the animals think we are quite peculiar in our masks!
16.01.2022 Anna and Will making music with the vegetables !
16.01.2022 Our Zoom "Happy Hour" continues each week. Lovely to see all the smiling faces and catch up with our news.
16.01.2022 Today two of our participants independently took it upon themselves to deliver food to Rita and her piglets. We always encourage good initiative. The piglets were very grateful! There are so many lambs at the moment, the paddocks seem alive with little, white bodies frollicking about. One little lamb climbed up on the seesaw and stood there bleeting, as if begging one of his friends to hop on the other end and play! So entertaining.
15.01.2022 Good News Detectives BETTER THAN WINNING THE LOTTERY! For passionate Cats supporter, Belinda Cini, recently winning a competition to have Zoom call with some Geelong Cats players, was a dream come true! The competition was a result of the collaboration between the Geelong Football Club and McDonalds Restaurants. On Monday, a lady from McDonalds rang me to tell me I had won a competition, explained Belinda. The Zoom call happened on Tuesday. Teri How did you enter the ...competition? Belinda My support worker, Caitlin, and I went to McDonalds in Torquay and bought a large meal. Then we took a photo of the receipt and sent it to McDonalds. Rudy What meal did you order? Belinda A big Mac meal with a Coke. Anna Where did you have your Zoom call? Belinda At my house. The players were in Western Australia. Anna Who was with you? Belinda My support worker, Ally, and my lizard whose name is Gary Ablett. Rudy Who were the players you chatted with? Belinda Joel Selwood and Mark Blicavs. Matthew Stokes was the host. Teri What were they like? Belinda Nice, friendly and chatty. Kate What questions did you ask? Belinda I asked what was the first car they owned and do you like lizards? Kate What did they say to that? Belinda One drove a Magna, the other a Ford and they both said they liked lizards but didnt think they would like to hold one. Joel Selwood freaked out when he saw my lizard! He said he looks like the real Gary Ablett! Teri Were you nervous or excited? Belinda I was both! Helen How long did your chat last for? Belinda about 20 or 30 minutes. Anna What was your favourite bit? Belinda - chatting with the players but also seeing the other players working out in the gym. They were hot! See more
15.01.2022 How lucky are we to be able to spend so much time at this divine farm. In today's glorious sunshine, it was at its stunning best.
15.01.2022 We were so excited to introduce our new program today - "Good News Detectives"! We will be tracking down and reporting on local good news stories. In this current climate, we intend to focus on news items with a positive angle. Today we had an introduction from a photo journalist from the Surf Coast Times newspaper. We learned several photography tips which we will put into practise ourselves. If anyone knows of any good news stories, please let us know.
14.01.2022 Such a beautiful day, a perfect day to spend outside on the farm. A special day for Emerald who bottle fed a lamb for the fist time and did a great job. We also got to admire the new giant Chess board and take the bikes for a spin.
14.01.2022 Things are a bit quieter lately, but our All Aboard Happy Hour via Zoom is a wonderful way to connect with our friends.
12.01.2022 With current restrictions, we are providing more 1:1 support to our participants. Rudy and Alex enjoy exploring our beautuful region together.
12.01.2022 Lovely outing to Aireys Inlet today! Began with the Airey's Lighthouse classic where we walked up to the lighthouse and touched it to support "shining a light on cancer". We had a visit to the Bark Hut to learn a little history of Airey's Inlet before heading to Coogoorah Park for morning tea where we did a river walk and signing practice. Then we all had lunch at the Airey's Inlet Pub where we had fun chatting and listening to the triple J hottest 100! ... Finished the day with a relaxed afternoon at the hall
12.01.2022 Anna and Alex have been working hard to create a book together. Anna loved reading it to us today. We were so proud.
11.01.2022 Great teamwork again today. Thanks to Rudy for some great photos of the animals. We even managed to get a photo of a kookaburra who was singing loudly from a gumtree above us.
11.01.2022 Today we really got stuck into our slow stitching project. This technique comes with very few rules, which allows for lots of creativity. It also makes use of scrap pieces of fabric, loose buttons, ribbons or thread to create a whole new piece of fabric which we will turn into something purposeful. It is also a mindful and time consuming task.......which may be useful if isolated at home.
10.01.2022 Anna and Will touring the farm!
10.01.2022 One aspect of our participants we can't adequately explain through photos, is their genuine care for one another. We observe so many acts of kindness every single day. From Belinda volunteering to hold a chook so Jodie can pat it, to Rudy waiting for Lisa who was taking things slowly today, there are just so many attributes which really are such extraordinary example of mutual respect and thoughtfulness. We just love hanging out together.
10.01.2022 A lovely morning to enjoy a walk along the coastal track. So fortunate to live where we do.
10.01.2022 Our first day back to our programs for 2021 and it was so lovely to be together again. We all had so much news to share. Lots of conversation and laughter and loads of fun in Miss Rose's Dance class this afternoon.
09.01.2022 What a busy day at Art and About! We began by working on the next step in creating our sculptures. Those in the photos have been completed and look absolutely fabulous. We then moved on to making Christmas trees using twigs, wool and baubles. We continued with our "Gratitude project" brainstorming those things we are all thankful for. We also had a visit from a photographer taking shots of some of our artwork for an upcoming online exhibition.....details to follow.
08.01.2022 We always seem to find time for fun at the farm after all our jobs are completed. Today this included a water pistol fight and Will dinking Anna on the back of the bike! We still managed to feed the animals and weed the garden!
08.01.2022 We love to celebrate achievements at All Aboard. Emerald achieved a couple of "firsts" today!
07.01.2022 Ok, the heat knocked us about this afternoon. Fortunately we completed all our tasks quickly, so we had a pretty chill afternoon. Enjoy the weekend everyone.
05.01.2022 As part of our "Gratitude Project", we learned about Thanksgiving Day from our favourite American .....Isela!! We discussed all the many things we have to be grateful for and began to salivate hearing about the traditional shared meal. Alex had prepared a delicious pumpkin pie which we all tried and the majority of our group really enjoyed it. It was a dress up theme for Miss Rose's dance class which as always, was loads of fun.
05.01.2022 Lots of creative projects going on at Art and About. One thing we love to hear from our participants is "This is a bit tricky, but I will give it a go". We really encourage everyone to take creative risks, challenge themselves and to always remember, there are no mistakes in art.
05.01.2022 When we introduced our face masks/shields two weeks ago, Alex tried to convince us all they were "cool". Anna clearly agrees and now every time we mask up, Anna says, "Cool". Great perspective change!
05.01.2022 An exciting initiative from City of Greater Geelong, for more information, see here: https://www.geelongaustralia.com.au///8d7edde1229e49e.aspx
05.01.2022 Well, what a glorious winter day to welcome us back to our second home at Freshwater Creek Cottages! Perhaps it was a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder, but today the gorgeous animals, the stunning gardens and the smiling faces seemed even more wonderful than the usual wonderful! So good to be back.
04.01.2022 We would like to introduce you to Edward. This beautiful duck suffered an injury to his beak just after he hatched. He was watched closely by Farmer Phil, but he has managed to overcome his physical challenges and as you can see, he is thriving. We all keep an eye out for Edward! Another stunning day at Freshwater Creek hanging out with all our animal friends.
04.01.2022 Today we had a workshop exploring Climate Change. We used some simple tools and activities to get a better understanding of the process and learned more about what we can do in our daily lives to reduce our contribution to global warming. Thanks to Alex for an awesome workshop.
04.01.2022 We really enjoy hanging out together on the farm. Work never seems like a big effort when you are doing something you love with friends.
03.01.2022 It was a cold start to the day, but getting on with our jobs soon warmed us up! Belinda noticed leaves had been left on the rhubarb stalks, so initiated their removal as the leaves can be toxic to animals. Great pick up, Belinda! Lots of food to deliver and animals to be patted along the way! Enjoy the weekend everyone.
02.01.2022 Our Good News Detectives Celebrating our most recent article published in the Surfcoast Times newspaper!! Check it out on page 22 in this week's paper. #Jeremy Dalli #Champion
02.01.2022 Enjoy browsing through some creative photography from our volunteer, Bella, who joined us today. There was not a lot of food to sort through and deliver, but spending time with the animals happily fills in our days. We also built a tee-pee whilst we were collecting kindling this afternoon.
02.01.2022 Alex and Anna have been zooming during the isolation period to practice their sign language. At the end of a session they would sing a song together as Anna loves music and singing; this video is of some of the highlights!
01.01.2022 Good News Detectives - story and photos by Teri, Rudy and Belinda SHARING WHAT HE HAS Driven by his deep spirit of generosity, Mitch Knaptain, has extended his hand to our Surfcoast community, providing cooked meals to others doing it tough through the Covid-19 Pandemic. Mitch is well aware how the current restrictions can impact mental health and although supporting himself on a disability Support Pension, it felt completely natural to him to reach out to others and share wh...Continue reading
01.01.2022 Today turned out to be quite stunning. The horses enjoyed some hand feeding today.
01.01.2022 Oh, the special " people" we meet researching for our Good News Detectives stories! Murray won a few hearts today.
01.01.2022 Yet another glorious day spent at the farm. We split up into different groups today to ensure our social distancing - sorting food for the animals, weeding and gathering succulents for flower arrangements. Then we took our time feeding and interacting with the animals and one another whilst soaking up the winter sun.
01.01.2022 Cold with clear blue skies; another beautiful winters day at the farm. Everyone was very tolerant of wearing masks when we couldnt be socially distant and we managed to complete all our tasks. Anna was so happy riding her bike she headed off ahead of the rest of us, enjoying the freedom. Percy has us worked out and takes a back rub to the next level as he goes from standing to supine......and the back rubs continue!
01.01.2022 Today Anna and Alex took us through some of the signs they have been working on during their Zoom sessions. Anna made a great teacher. Afterwards we introduced a new program we will be working through called Wellbeing Matters. This is a fabulous resource based on Psychological principles which helps us positively manage our emotions, increase awareness of the choices we make, be responsible for our own feelings and behaviours and nurture positive relationships. We are really excited about this program and everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoy our first session.
