23.01.2022 #Week38 :: The one with the real story. Sometimes the universal pull to be everything to everyone is fierce and is one of the reasons our formulations and brand building has taken longer than ever expected. It's a cultural code we desperately sought to crack but knew the answer for simple, effective and gender-neutral skincare ran much deeper than skincare products and a story. You see, nature and genetics are pretty strong - like fierce, stubborn teenagers that won't take no for an answer and persistently win every argument. So annoying. Our genetics - fortunately or unfortunately - dictate more than just our pre-bleach-mistake hair colour. They're the little brain-stations inside our cells that say, "Hey Collagen! It's... time to clock off now, our shift this decade is over. Oh elasticity, wanna join us for a knock-off bevvie too?" Your skin either has elasticity or it doesn't. We can't avoid stretch marks, or how quickly our collagen disappears. And shock horror, creams don't change our genetic make-up. We can only nourish our skin cells to keep them hydrated, healthy and happy. The rest is pre-determined. Already coded. You see, when you are building a brand there are so many things and 'stuff' that the consumer - you - don't get the pleasure of seeing. But the joy of being part of the All & Sundry journey is that we celebrate all stories. Skin stories. Your stories. Our own story. This week, we became one step close to finalising our formulations AND ou...r vessel packaging. Eeeeek. Like, actually oh em gee. After much back-and-forth and wanting to give everything to everyone and their routines, we came back to WHY we're here in the first place. After almost 2 years of envisioning the message, the brand identity and the quality of the product, we realised we just need to be transparent about WHO we are and WHY we exist. Simplicity is not a judge of effectiveness. It's a landmark in bringing skincare back to basics. We are developing formulations grounded in an ethos of inclusivity and transparency.
