La régie choisira le toi...t de l'usine Fiat de Mirafiori. Michael Deely veut que nous ne prenions aucun risque et il me faudra une semaine pour le persuader, à la faveur d'une démonstration au sol. Le jour J, Roger Mailles, Gérard Gardel et moi, nous n'en menons pas large. Nous restons concentrés. Nous sauterons à 110km/h de manière à allonger le vol : en cas de panne après le point de non-retour la voiture doit arriver de l'autre côté. Il y a un muret à sauter pendant l'élan, ce qui augmente la difficulté. Nous ne voyons pas l'autre bâtiment mais seulement la trajectoire, le tremplin et, au-delà, le ciel blanc. Six caméras vont démarrer. Peter Collinson lève son drapeau. C'est parti. Passe le tremplin. Envol. Bruit d'enfer dans mon moteur quand les roues motrices quittent le sol. Atterrissage ! Choc dans les reins, dans les mécaniques. Sur les 100 mètres de libre, il faut se battre avec les minis pour garder le contrôle. Nous nous arrêtons dans un nuage de fumée. Paris gagné ! Gardel a ouvert son train avant à l'impact d'arrivée, Mailles a cassé une fusée et moi le moteur (vilebrequin). Le saut mesuré est de 24 mètres. Que de travail, de traces, d'obsessions, de doutes, d'angoisse pour quelques secondes. #ItalianJob #MiniCooper #Stunt
