25.01.2022 Our first educational event since we were locked down. Out with Dimmocks Retreat Wildlife at Bowral Bowling Club for the markets.

25.01.2022 Here is a couple (literally) of my patients, two corellas who are being given the chance to bite me on a daily basis as they are examined for further injury and assessing their progress and general health. While they may look OK, internal injuries from electrocution is common and needs to be diligently monitored until we are confident they are progressing in the right direction.

24.01.2022 If you are trying to get hold of me today, I am in the Nature Conservation Council AGM as the Delegate for Dimmocks Retreat Wildlife all day and will be checking messages etc. when we have breaks.

23.01.2022 Watching the 'fires near me' web site as Bundanoon, the site of our Sanctuary is going up in flames. Reaching out to my friends who have chosen to stay and fight, please let me know you are OK when you have a chance. First chance I get I will be heading in to set up feed and water stations to 1) support the abundant wildlife of Bundanoon, 2) give us a chance to observe and if necessary capture injured wildlife for treatment.

21.01.2022 And a quick pre-lunch yoga session with the Alpacas.

14.01.2022 We are back at our evac site (for now). The risk level has dropped. Thank you so much to everyone who offered us space, rooms and showers. We may still need to call on your offers depending on the fire goes. We are leaving the vehicles packed, fueled and ready to go. It takes about 45 minutes to catch, put in a crate and pack into the appropriate vehicle so all we need to do is the wildlife.... I will update here if anything changes. Time to start our evening feeds, then have a meal ourselves. Cheers Greg

11.01.2022 I have contacted most clients and postponed till further notice, if I haven't been able to get hold of you I apologise. I will contact and reschedule once this is over, we are trying to settle our critters in their temporary location as well as keep out feeding and water stations available for the wild ones. Cheers... 10.01.2022 As an RVN I do a lot of unpaid work with our wildlife, the wombat cuddles and kangaroo kisses are awesome and make every day an adventure in it's own right. But not every day is a good day, sometimes despite the best veterinary interventions and round the clock care we just can't beat fate.....

08.01.2022 First call out on Christmas Day....

04.01.2022 Interesting start to the week so far....Interesting start to the week so far....

01.01.2022 Great news for my clients (existing and new), we now accept Credit Card payment via Stripe. If you would like to pay via card, please let me know so I can remember to grab the reader from the charger for the visit. We are back in the Sanctuary now, and almost back to business as usual, we are available for home and mobile visits now so those asking, please book in your next visit.... 01.01.2022 Evacuated from our evacuation site, everyone packed up on the 4WD's again. And we have 2 new little additions, a sugar glider and a juvenile Rosella. Not sure were we are heading next, we are pretty much surrounded by fires now and hiding in the Carpark to stay out of the sun. We have a few offers to relocate to, but all this moving, packing up, unpacking etc is stressing the critters beyond belief.

01.01.2022 This is Napoleon who went missing for 2 weeks after the RFS cut a much needed a firebreak through the back of the sanctuary. Quickly followed bu the bush fire, leaving our native forest and half our property black and burnt. He returned a few nights ago, stumbling onto the sanctuary looking lost and very confused. ... Justine and I were so incredibly happy, tears of joy for one of our rehabilitated boys who made it home and we had presumed lost. Naps (his nick name) is suffering from some singed fur as well as minor burns. His fur is matted, full of burrs and he has not been grooming himself. He is home now, drinking lots of water and enjoying his favourite food. Bridgette (his best mate) greeted him and commenced grooming him. We have also been giving him a daily brush (with a cat brush of all things) to remove the dead skin and help un-matt his fur. He has a few lacerations around one of his big toes which we suspect if from going through a barbed wire fence. We are ecstatic that he found his way home and after a thorough check of his lungs (no abnormal sounds), heart rate (within expected range), urine tests (some outside of range values) and a poo float (nothing observed). Naps is now taking each day as it comes. He of course gets a daily nursing check, has his woulds treated and is monitored for myopathy which is a real risk. Should anything change, he will be referred to our fantastic Veterinarians at Bundanoon Veterinary Hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Cheers Wildlife Nurse Greg
