23.01.2022 Everyday dermatomes. These are the most common dermatomes that come up in clinical practice. Remember that a dermatome refers to the spinal nerve root level that provides the cutaneous supply. ... This is different to the peripheral cutaneous nerves such as the median and femoral nerves which often carry many spinal nerve root levels. #anatomy #anatomyeducation #alliedhealth #medicalanatomy #clinicalanatomy #anatomyandphysiology #onlineanatomy #spine #dermatomes #nerves #nervoussystem #neurology #handanatomy #wrist #hand #ankle #myotomes #physiotherapy #chiropractic #exercisephysiology #nursing #occupationaltherapy #medstudent #pathology #healthandfitness #physio #injuryprevention #prehab #rehabilitation

21.01.2022 Based on intramuscular EMG, Brisbane-based researchers Benn et al (2018) have found that the two parts are functionally unique. They found the proximal part to be involved more in adduction whilst the distal part was involved in hip internal rotation. BOTH parts were involved in hip extension, especially the distal part. ... 2 parts = 2 origins, 2 insertions and 2 innervations. Adductor part: Origin: inferior ramus of pubic bone, ischial ramus. Insertion: it’s horizontal fibres insert at the gluteal tuberosity (a.k.a adductor minimus), linea aspera and medial supracondylar line. Nerve: Obturator nerve (L2-4 roots) Hamstring part: Origin: inferolateral part of the ischial tuberosity (yes, next to the hamstrings!). Insertion: Adductor tubercle of the femur. Nerve: Tibial nerve (L4 root). #anatomy #anatomyeducation #alliedhealth #medicalanatomy #clinicalanatomy #anatomyandphysiology #onlineanatomy #spine #hip #knee #ankle #adductor #groin #hippain #thigh #exercisescience #back #physiotherapy #chiropractic #exercisephysiology #nursing #occupationaltherapy #medstudent #pathology #healthandfitness #physio #injuryprevention #prehab #rehabilitation

20.01.2022 The PES ANSERINE Sartorius+Gracilis+Semitendinosus Very different origins. Same insertion. 1. Composed of the tendinous insertions of the sartorius, gracilis, and semitendinosus muscles. ... 2. These attach to the medial side of tibia to generate a shape reminiscent of a goose's foot, which is the literal meaning of its name. 3. This structure is clinically important in the reconstructive surgery involving tendons or in the steroid injection for anserine bursitis (AB) 4. The anserine bursa is found at the suoeriomedial area of the tibia where the conjoined tendon of the PA muscles insert. 19.01.2022 Ankle EVERSION- actioned by fibularis/peroneus longus, brevis and tertius. Check out this new read which reviews the anatomy of each muscle and how they are involved in ankle and foot pain.

18.01.2022 One for our audiologists/head & neck anatomy followers. Take a look at this interesting new read written by our Clinical audiologist Jack. It explains how the external ear influences direction of sound into the external acoustic meatus, and also the role of the external ear in sound perception! https://buff.ly/36FegIt #audiology #hearingloss #hearingaids #audiologist #hearing #hearingaid #hearinghealth #hearingtest #deaf #ears #audpeeps #ear #hardofhearing #tinnitus #hearinglossawareness #hearinglosswontstopme #cochlearimplant #audiologia #health #phonak #ent #cochlear #hearingclinic #earwax #fonoaudiologia #i #e #aud #alatbantudengar #bhfyp

15.01.2022 For those interested in how muscle gets bigger Muscle tissue has many components (myofibrils, muscle cells, fasicles, organelles, motor neurones, connective tissue etc). In response to training, muscles cells do not increase in number. ... Instead it's the myofibrils they become more numerous OR they become longer. Remember 1x muscle cell contains many myofibrils, and a myofibril contains the actin / myosin contractile elements. Supporting organelles (mitochondria, glycolytic enzymes etc) also increase in volume to adapt to training. During training, when mechanical tension is resisted by the active cell components (actin/myosin cross bridges) the myofibrils will increase in number / in parallel. When mechanical tension is resisted by the passive cell elements (e.g. structural proteins like titin), the myofibrils tend to increase in length by added new sarcomeres to the myofibril / in series (sarcomerogenesis). Muscle contraction through a large/full range of motion involves more of the passive elements than contractions only moving through small/partial ranges of motion. Concentric contractions put more tension though the active components / cross bridges, whilst eccentric contractions tension both the active and passive components. The take homes: - Muscles get huge (increased cross sectional area) by increasing the number of myofibrils in parallel, and increasing supporting organelle volume. - Muscles / myofibrils get longer in response to eccentric contractions that rely more on passive muscle elements. Remember muscle length / relaxation is also controlled through the nervous system. #musclebiology #concentric #eccentric #anatomy #anatomyeducation #alliedhealth #medicalanatomy #clinicalanatomy #anatomyandphysiology #onlineanatomy #knee #ankle #shoulder #elbow #wrist #hand #neck #back #physiotherapy #chiropractic #exercisephysiology #nursing #occupationaltherapy #medstudent #pathology #healthandfitness #physio #injuryprevention #prehab #rehabilitation

02.01.2022 Mind maps are such an effective way to combine the most crucial bits of information about a topic. They are something I started using a millenium in the HSC as a way to remember my paragraph structures for English and PDHPE (omg lol take me back. NOT). They worked great. Today I use them to chunk information which is exceptionally effective at improving my recall in time limited scenarios, especially for anatomy and physiology. ... They would be a great thing for you to use as well, especially if you are trying to memorize anatomy or physiology information and need to recall this in a stressful situation! However just because you've made it doesn't mean you know it. You have to draw it, recite it, re draw it, again and agina until you can do this without hints off the top of your head! This is how you know you can reproduce it in a stressful situation. Try it and let me know below how to go! #alliedanatomy #anatomy #anatomyeducation #learning #mindmaps #learningstrategies #rotatorcuff #scapula #cubitalfossa #physiotherapy #nursing #chiropractic #medicalanatomy #medicalstudent #medicalscience
