Born of a conversation between two immigrants missing ‘home’ (the Iranian producer and a Polish violinist), the theme was broadened by the poignant words of the interviewee to include the essence of the idea of ‘home’ and the deep-seated longings that we all share.

06.01.2022 Shortlisted for the finals of the Tropfest 26 Film Festival in 2018, this piece is based on the poem A Nation, Found which is, in a word, about #Treaty. A Nation, Found explores themes around #Australias colonial past, positioning that the failure to then #recognise the peoples of the #FirstNations as the traditional owners not only left later Australians with our beds burning but is also a missed opportunity culturally; the film then posits that only once Treaty is ac...hieved can Australia be found both spiritually (not being lost at sea) and practically (as a culturally richer, and ethically more just foundation). A Nation, Found has a #feminist undercurrent, willing individual and collective #strength, #courage, and #action in the face of aggression and oppression. The talented cast and crew worked tirelessly to create this piece in a week; they are credited in the end titles. The full words of the #poem are: ~~~~~ A Nation, Found People: lost at sea No man is an island. Stained surrounds, still, adrift: well-lit oblivion grows. Restlessness abounds. Make light of them, but no man. But for one woman, bold and strong. Their ebbs. Their flows. Barren sips. A placid river, consumed: pacified, their eastern ocean ... there, where ships arose ... The human in this boat was raw, is raw, just there, a powerful presence. Turns out, this is not a boat. For this human in this boat, this is home. This is where this human lives, with two children, a husband, and some kind of waterbird, though I think the waterbird might have just flown in for this picture.
