25.01.2022 when fitting an outboard motor to a boat most of the bolt holes will match across brands and similar hp motors. dont for get to use plenty of silicone to stop water ingress to the ply which makes the transom on most boats. As a side note marine ply is a bit of a furphy or myth all that is different is a harder timber and waterproof glue they still rot eventually particularly if water gets in.

25.01.2022 I have seen it so many times where people have painted over the trim tab that sits under the cav plate on your outboard gearbox. The trim tab purpose is twofold 1. counter acts the propellor pushing against the water which makes the boat veer left.2. its a sacrificial annode which helps stop your motor being eaten away by electrolysis. painting over it stops 2 dead.

24.01.2022 sorry going to have a whinge. no thanks for the guy at molendinar dump weighbridge who told me to go elsewhere both over an hour away. said they did not do it there. stood my ground and finally got the trailer weighed and paid $38 for the privelege. In a similar note qld transport helensvale would not issue a vin number and plate said they dont do it anymore. qld transport southport no problem. why is bureaucracy so hard to deal with?

23.01.2022 If you are running premix on a 2 stroke make sure you use a fuel filter that wont strip out the oil. A car filter from supercheap will do exactly that and result in tears.

22.01.2022 Hi thanks to all that liked my page. I dont post often as I believe in quality over quantity

20.01.2022 hi the weather is warming as we move into our summer. remember to check your impellors before you go boating. Old ones can crumble into shreds and not move water which of course ends in tears. remember the bolt under the trim tab when dropping the box.

17.01.2022 if you need help with wiring your motor I reccomend maxrules. its an American site where you can print out wiring colour codes for all of the major brands(yes they are all different) I have found it really helpful

10.01.2022 I helped a neighbour recently who had a v4 yam there was spark on all 4 cylinders but 1 plug looked like it was not firing as the porcelain inner was white. It ran rough when revved. A new(used) coil sorted it. Weird how it had spark enough to fool me into believing it was ok when clearly not under load.

10.01.2022 Now back in business after a wonderfull week on Norfolk island to celebrate my 60th

10.01.2022 Hi I recently refurbished some Honda 25 four strokes. I got very acceptable stickers from ebay at a fraction of the cost of originals. I used one pack clear to finish and it was ok not great so I bought some 2 pac clear and redid the lot wow what a difference. I will always use 2 pac clear in future.

08.01.2022 Most mechanics won't touch outboards older than 2000. The problem being bolts don't unscrew and often snap off creating hours of extra work. A 1980 motor is nearly 40 years old. Some of us can't bear to part with them.

08.01.2022 I am contacted by people wanting a 40y.o. cowl or just the rubber in good condition. 40 y.o. rubber is rarely good. You can contact your nearesr dealer and pay a lot for a genuine rubber or go to the local rubber store where they sell all sorts of profiles for about $6 per meter. A bit of sikaflex and job done.

07.01.2022 a master mechanic friend showed me how to really clean spark plugs the other day which involved getting all of the carbon off the porcelain centre piece with a fine wire brush and degreaser in a pressure pack. then setting the gaps the same with a set of feeler gauges. I am sure it makes a difference and is worth the time.
