25.01.2022 Have you or someone you know got a flair and passion for working with young people? We're hiring!

24.01.2022 A fabulous set of tips and reminders for parents out there! Hope you have a great weekend in ahead. :)

24.01.2022 Violence against women is a far too common experience. 1 in 3 Australian women have experienced physical violence since the age of 15, and the incidence of this is even greater amongst our service users. That’s why we’re marking White Ribbon Day, to raise awareness and commit to action to prevent violence against women. The UN’s 16 Days of Activism against Violence Against Women also begins around the globe from Wednesday 25th November. Want to take action? Consider registering for this upcoming preventing violence against women bystander training webinar, hosted by our friends at Inner West Council and Women’s & Girls’ Emergency Centre WAGEC: https://www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au//domestic-and-family-viol

23.01.2022 Always was, always will be. This NAIDOC Week 2020, we invite you take a moment to pause, reflect and give thanks for the incredible care of this land over the past 65,000+ years in the hands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. May we celebrate and appreciate the phenomenal history, culture and achievements of First Nations people across this time. #NAIDOC2020

22.01.2022 We are gearing up for International Women's Day and the wonderful folks of Johnson St Jazz are are coordinating a women's jazz tribute and fundraising evening in support of people who come through the doors of The Girls Refuge and Detour House! Amazing!! We would love to see you there. :)

22.01.2022 The history of our First Peoples is the history of all of us, of all of Australia, and we need to own it - hearing this history is necessary before we can come to some true reconciliation, some genuine healing for both sides. In the midst of NAIDOC week we reflect in awe upon the beauty, deep spirituality, incredible skill and knowledge, & connection and care of the land that has been cultivated by Australia's First Peoples across tens of thousands of years. And at the sa...me time our hearts are filled with heaviness for the brutality and trauma experienced by our First People in Australia's recent history. It bears its impact to this day, reflected in many ways, including overrepresentation among people experiencing homelessness in Australia. As a signatory to the Redressing Aboriginal Homelessness Accord, we are fully in support of the pathway forward that it articulates, and are committed to doing our bit to bring it to life and action. Here's to continued healing.

21.01.2022 Thank you SO much Day Street Band & Leichhardt Bowling & Recreational Club, & to all the very generous donors and supporters who made this possible! You're phenomenal.

20.01.2022 Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. In the past year, 64% of the women we supported at Detour House had lived experiences of gender based violence. 2 in 3. Today we also had the opportunity to attend the Gowland Awards, in celebration and recognition of the wonderful work of so many in the community and sector who respond to and working towards reducing the incidence of domestic violence. Concurrently, it was a stark reminder of the gravity of domestic violence and the long way systems have to go in better supporting people experiencing violence. The words that will stick today is that we must galvanize: to do better as a society, to have more useful public conversation, and to improve those systems that everyday can fail many.

20.01.2022 Sending a shout out to: The wonderful, strong, resilient & remarkable women who walk through the doors at our services - residents, staff, volunteers, students, service partners, and board. You are shining beacons. The team across our service delivery partners B Miles Women's Foundation & Community Restorative Centre (CRC), together with our team under the Inner City Women with Complex Needs consortium: what lovely recognition of our collective work under the 2020 SHS Sector Awards for excellence in ending homelessness for groups with specific needs. It is a privilege to work alongside you. And a huge thank you to McCann Australia & New Zealand, Empire Hotel Annandale & Johnston Street Jazz for your generous and thoughtful support in recognition of International Women's Day this year.

09.01.2022 Together, we are powerful. Bunker in as much as you can, for yourself, the people you care about, and our fellow humans. At Detour House we are focusing on keeping our community connected over the next while. We will be reaching out to current and past service users to help shape a digital program together. Let us know if you'd like to be involved or what you'd love to see. https://thespinoff.co.nz//the-side-eye-viruses-vs-everyone/

08.01.2022 We are grateful to have connected with the incredible Inner West Mums / Inner West Mums- Sydney community last night to share about the experience of women and girls accessing our services, no less on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women - an issue that impacts so many of our service users. Every year on 25 November and on the ensuing 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence (ending on 10 December, Human Rights Day), victims and survivors of domestic and family violence are commemorated around the world. It is a time for individuals and groups to mobilise and bring attention to the urgent need to end violence against women and girls.

04.01.2022 UWCC so generously undertook a new household items drive for the women supported by Detour House, as part of their end of year celebrations. How thoughtful is that!! Thank you so much to all the fabulous women in cricket community involved, for your support. The items will go to good use, helping to set up new places to call home as women complete the residential program at Detour House.

03.01.2022 An enormous thank you once again Rotary Club of Five Dock and to the wider community for your generous support through the Ferragosto Ball fundraiser. It was a delight and inspiration to hear more about the wonderful work you do in the community at your most recent meeting. Thank you for having us, thank you for the wonderful work that you do, and thank you for your time and energy in fundraising for us!

02.01.2022 Double the celebrations on a double graduation day, of two talented and tenacious women who have completed the program at Detour House today. Congratulations!! We wish you both the very best in your journeys ahead. Sending a shout out to all the women who have completed the program between our graduation posts too - so many strong women who have grown and achieved so much, and brought so much to others on their journey of recovery too. You are inspiring.

02.01.2022 Thanks so much Western Sydney Women for organising this event and sharing the day with women at Detour House. We heard it was a special day of self-care and unleashing of inner fabulousness.

02.01.2022 Hi Detour House community! We'd hugely appreciate some donations of good condition or new kitchenware (e.g., crockery, utensils) and linen for some women of Detour who are completing our residential program and are moving into independent accommodation. If you're able to assist, please drop us a line via [email protected] or send us a private message.

01.01.2022 This Homelessness Week we're getting behind 'Everybody's Home', calling for greater investment in social housing to reduce the incidence of homelessness. In our local electorates in Sydney City and Inner West, there are 6400 people experiencing homelessness: 6400 people for whom increased social housing would make a huge difference to personal safety and wellbeing. What's the need in your local area? Join us in the call for greater government investment in social housing by visiting https://everybodyshome.com.au/
