23.01.2022 I have had this Facebook page for nearly 2 years and barely posted anything on it. Ironically, my business is in creative media and marketing for rural clients across Australia. I am working in this sphere of social media, websites, internet, etc. on a daily basis. Why haven't I been active? One, I am constantly busy everyday focused on completing work for my clients (as most small to medium sized businesses are). Two, many many times (in the short time I may have free) I hav...Continue reading

13.01.2022 If you use a safe browser such as Firefox, are you still being tracked/monitored? Potentially. If you are using Google search inside Firefox browser (especially if you are logged into a Google/G mail account), Google and other data companies will still be attempting to track you. Inside your Google account you can go to Manage your account> Data & Personalisation> Activity controls > Pause all your activity (Web and app activity, Youtube, Location, etc). In addition to this i...t is very worthwhile to go into Firefox settings (top right corner of browser) and select Add-ons. Here you can add additional security and privacy features, as well as some other cool browser features (will post more about them soon). Here are some security/privacy add-ons I would recommend- Facebook Container (Stops FB from tracking your other web activity) https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/facebookcontainer/ Ad Blocker Ultimate (Blocks Youtube ads and some other ads) https://addons.mozilla.org//fire/addon/adblocker-ultimate/ Privacy Badger (Blocks trackers as you are surfing the net) https://addons.mozilla.org//firefox/addon/privacy-badger17/ You just have to select them and make sure they are turned on. The last thing thing I would say at this stage is to use a VPN. A VPN hides the location from where you are using the internet and makes it much harder for trackers, hackers, and other nefarious actors to harm you on the internet. Using a safe VPN (don't just use any one, do some research... I will try to post on this soon too), will give you a great deal of added protection. To protect yourself as best as you can from malware, viruses, etc. you should also... 1. Have your computer, and ALL your other devices that connect to the internet, set up securely! 2. Know how to navigate the internet safely (opening emails, downloading software, etc.) Will touch on these things next :) #Firefox #PrivacyBadger #VPN #AdBlocker #HowToProtectYourselfOnTheInternet #AllRuralMedia See more

11.01.2022 Following on from my previous posts about protecting your privacy and staying safe on the internet (both personally and your business), I am going to write about Email security! This is probably the number one place where people are being affected. Here are a few pointers to help you. Even just remembering these should keep you safe. 1. It is ok to open ANY email (even an email in a spam folder), however it is NOT OK to click LINKS inside the email or OPEN attachments inside ...Continue reading

10.01.2022 What internet browser should you be using on your computers, phones, tablets and smart TVs? Think it doesn't matter... well if you want companies all around the world storing, sharing, and selling your personal information and your computer being more vulnerable to hacking... then it doesn't matter. But if you want to protect the privacy and dignity of yourself and your family, make your business more secure, and have an all round better and safer experience on the Internet, ...then I am recommending to use Firefox Browser for internet use. They had some issues years ago with crashing on certain operating systems but they have updated it and made it into an excellent, secure and stable internet browser now. All you need to do is to go to the Mozilla Firefox website (https://www.mozilla.org) and download it [it usually detects your operating system for you and provides the right option for downloading], then install it on your computer and update your computer settings so it is your DEFAULT internet browser. After you have done that, you can open your other existing internet browser/s on your computer, clear your data/history, delete saved logins (record them first), back up bookmarks to import into Firefox (if you use bookmarks and need to save them), then uninstall the browser from your computer/device (some browsers are part of the operating system and cannot be deleted, but you can clear all your data and stop using them). The only exception for needing Google Chrome browser is that if you have a business and ever need to use some of the government website portals (Eg. ASIC, ATO, etc.), then they may require Chrome or another browser to use the portal. In which case you can keep it installed after clearing your data, and use it solely for that purpose. You can still use Google Search Engine on Firefox browser, however there are a few additional steps you can take to make your internet use more secure (which I will follow up in my next posts). Duck Duck Go search engine is a better alternative for private use within the Firefox browser. Don't be complacent with this issue. Australian businesses and individuals of all walks of life are being hacked, scammed and defrauded everyday. Protect yourself from both the criminal hacking scum, and the greedy and unscrupulous corporations who are preying on us all on a daily basis! #FirefoxInternetBrowser #DuckDuckGoSearchEngine #LetsMakeABetterInternet #AllRuralMedia See more

09.01.2022 If you followed my advice already you should now be using the internet in a way that protects your privacy and security better. But there are still a few other critical issues that must be looked at... your computer security, downloading from the internet and email. In this post I will address keeping your computer protected from online threats. This is vitally important and no one should be complacent about this! PC - If you have a PC, you should make sure your operating sys...tem is updated. If you have Windows 8, it is better to update to Windows 10 if at all possible (No I don't endorse using Microsoft, just trying to help people where they are at). The reason why this is important is because when your computer operating system software isn't up to date, you are more vulnerable to hackers exploiting a back door (for them an open door) to get into your computer and sow chaos in form of viruses and malware. From there they can destroy your files, steal your personal info/identity, rob you and more. Windows now has Windows Defender, which is included on every computer that has Windows 10. At your first chance, you should go to your settings and check that it is turned ON. It works as good or better than most of the popular anti virus software's on the market. If you want to use something more advanced then you can search online for a paid product, although you should do a substantial amount of research. Alternatively, you could call your local computer repair business for a recommendation, since they regularly fix computers affected by viruses, they see what works and what doesn't. Still Windows Defender is likely good enough for most people. Mac Mac is generally safer than PC, although it isn't impossible to get a virus on a Mac. Once again, keep your Operating system up to scratch and surf the internet safely. Linux Linus is awesome! (Just throwing it out there). If you are using Linux, you are likely more aware about privacy and security issues, so there is nothing to say here. If your computer is protected quite well, the main thing you need to be vigilant about is using the internet in a safe way, especially with regards to email and downloading programs for your computer from the internet. More tips to come... #KeepingSafeFromCyberScum #AllRuralMedia
