24.01.2022 Women have come a long way, yet we see #inequality in many areas of our lives. From gender pay gap to gender imbalance in leadership; from violence against women and girls to lack of financial inclusion. Alo aims to work with women from all walks of life, We aim to broaden our understanding on significant gender issues and unconscious biases that exacerbate gender stereotypes within our societies, particulary in the areas of women’s leadership, financial inclusion of women, women in tech, and violence against women and girls. Through this platform we aim to raise awareness on these issues by providing opportunities for engagement on personal growth, career development through facilitating training, workshops and seminars. Let’s learn, laugh and liberate with Alo. #choosetochallenge #iwd2021 #alo #aloenlightenedwomen

23.01.2022 There is research evidence that CALD communities are less likely to participate in gambling activities than general population, but are most likely to develop problems with their gambling if they do participate. Shame, stigma, lack of awareness and lack of understanding of benefits of counselling services stop people from seeking help. So if you know any at-risk gamblers within the CALD community, please encourage them to break out of this stigma and reach out for help. 18.01.2022 Today (25 November) we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW) and the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence (16 Days), which ends on International Human Rights Day (10 December). As countries implemented lockdown measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, violence against women, especially domestic violence, intensified in some countries, calls to helplines have increased five-fold. The UN Secretary-Ge...neral’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign, a multi-year effort aimed at preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls, will focus on amplifying the call for global action to bridge funding gaps, ensure essential services for survivors of violence during the COVID-19 crisis, focus on prevention, and collection of data that can improve life-saving services for women and girls. This year’s theme for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!. Like in previous years, this year's International Day will mark the launch of 16 days of activism that will conclude on 10 December 2020, which is International Human Rights Day. To know more about IDEVAW and 16 Days please visit: https://www.un.org//obse/ending-violence-against-women-day, and https://iwda.org.au/what-are-the-16-days-of-activism-and-w/

18.01.2022 Tomorrow is D-DAY. Please join the official launch of Alo Enlightened Women at 4:30 pm AEST. Those who registered hope to see you in person. Others please join us on our Facebook Live!! Spread the word.

05.01.2022 The ALO team would like to thank you, the beautiful women of Canberra, for making our very first International Women’s Day celebration a great success. The whole program was scripted. But what was not scripted was your enthusiastic participation at the event. This is very inspiring to the ALO team. We are truly humbled and deeply touched with your kind support and positive feedback. The idea of celebration was first proposed during a BAAC community consultation in 2018 by A.../Prof Lubna Alam. A team of enthusiastic women came together Zaheen Rahman, Bushra Khanum, Tulip chaudhury, Aliva Evana Yaman, Siulin Chung and Nasreen Jhuma. We had a vision to enlighten women for a day in recognition of their contributions. A BIG thanks to BAAC for supporting this initiative and providing ALO their assistance. We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of the men towards this event. We raised awareness about women’s mental well-being, leadership, domestic violence, happiness and migrant women’s barriers to work. As a first step, this event is a great moment for Bangladeshi women in the Canberra community. We hope this spirit of celebration will continue on in the future for Advancing gender equality. #balanceforbetter #iwd19 #alo #aloenlightendwomen
