21.01.2022 S E N S O R Y P L A Y Sensory play in the early years is important for so many reasons: It helps to build nerve connections in the brain. It supports language development. It encourages the development of motor skills. It encourages scientific thinking and problem solving. It creates a mindful moment where children can feel relaxed and be present. Look at our children having a ball with this :)

19.01.2022 S C I E N C E W E E K This week we celebrated science week at Alphabet Preschool. The children engaged in so many different science experiments and STEM activities. We watched as white flowers soaked up different colours to turn their leaves rainbow We mixed vinegar and bicarb together to make volcanoes ... We placed an egg inside vinegar to create a naked egg that you can see through! We explored magnets, prisms and light spectrums. We created waves inside little Jars using oil & water. Science & STEM activities are one of our favourites at Alphabet Preschool. The learning opportunities are endless. These experiences allow children to begin planning, problem-solving and hypothesising. It also nurtures intellectual curiosity, helping children acquire new ways of asking questions and understanding the world. What a wonderful week weve had

17.01.2022 S I G N L A N G U A G E The benefits of teaching children sign language are endless. It enables children to communicate with us in a different way which in turn increases self-esteem & reduces frustration. Goodwyn (2010) also found that children taught sign language at a young age scored higher in IQ tests in later life! ... #schoolandbeyond

13.01.2022 E G G H A T C H I N G P R O G R A M The Children in the Kinder room have been learning about life-cycles. What a way to end this topic with the egg- hatching program! The children watched in amazement as baby chicks hatched from eggs and then turned into fluffy, yellow chicks that they could hold and pat. Bringing lessons to life is the best way to teach- dont you agree ?

12.01.2022 A C C E P T A N C E & I N C L U S I O N There has never been a more important time to teach our little people about acceptance, inclusion and celebrating differences. This week we have immersed the children in our diversity topic. We discussed our feelings; how others can be different or the same as us; we celebrated our individual backgrounds and cultures and we began our acknowledgment of country song throughout all the rooms. What a pleasure it has been so see the children becoming more and more empathic towards each other and celebrating differences.

08.01.2022 #NationalChildProtectionWeek This week we engaged in experiences focussing on child protection. Discussions were held with the children regarding who in our community are people they can trust and who can keep them safe. We asked the children to name 5 people who they can go to if they ever feel unsafe. We sang the song toes to your nose which talks about how our bodies belong to us. Its so important that children are empowered to take ownership over their own bodies, and they are aware of ways they can seek help if they ever feel unsafe. We take pride in educating our children to be knowledgeable about their own wellbeing

05.01.2022 T I N K E R T A B L E S When children tinker, they are learning about the properties of materials and the capabilities of tools. They are developing their fine motor skills as well. Tinkering often leads to constructing, hypothesising, researching, trailing and it is absolutely the foundation to more complex making, technology, and engineering. Look at the children using real tools to deconstruct these objects.

04.01.2022 F O R M I N G F R I E N D S H I P S Early-childhood friendship is something that is frequently overlooked as a positive developmental influence. We dont always realize how attached young children are to their friends. Preschool friendships are helpful in developing social and emotional skills, increasing a sense of belonging and decreasing stress. We love watching our little people develop their friendships and it is a goal of our educators to help children develop and foster these relationships.

04.01.2022 W O R M F A R M Today our children help set up a worm farm! Susy- our sustainability leader along with Darren, our chef have created a worm farm to help teach the children about sustainable practices. The worms fascinated the children and they were amazed when they were told what they can do with our food scraps. Keeping a worm farm is an easy way to recycle food scraps- helping us to minimise food waste that goes to landfill and creating natural garden fertiliser. Great job little learners
