08.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW. Back in the late 90s, the Hotham Lift Company invested in a commercial airport just outside Dinner Plain. Unfortunately, it never really took off with Qantas and the regional airlines it was originally built for, so til now has remained mostly unused. Alpine Air Charters (newest charter group under the umbrella of YV Aviation), now runs the most flights in and out weekly from either Essendon Airport or the Yarra Valley, direct to Hotham. With prices starting fr...om $379 per person, you can now grab a bump to Hotham and back in a single day, including complimentary private transfers right to the top of the chairlift. Our fleet features everything from Travelairs to a pair of Pilatus PC12s - comfortably seating up to 9 passengers - meaning you can get onboard in your outerwear and be on the hill in under 90 mins. Past passenger, Sam Leitch (@samperviren) says, I grabbed a sunset ride from Hotham to Lilydale in mid September 17 with these guys and it was great. A backseat in the Bonanza, with cosy sheepskin seat covers and a cold beer in my hand. Swooping over Hotham, we could look straight over the biggest Victorian mountains; Feathertop, Mt McKay and Bogong in absolute peak form with a huge snowpack. Banking to the South we then flew above endless, unbroken bush, passing straight over mystery mountain, The Crosscut Saw, with a big cornice of snow and the the south face of Buller, where the following day Hotham skier Coen would be victorious in the Buller X competition. Within an hour of taking off we touched down on the smooth green grass of Lilydale. A thoroughly enjoyable and efficient way to access Melbourne, with the added opportunity of a close look at Victorias stunning mountains and high country. Thanks Sam! Were expecting a kicker blizzard this weekend, so gearing up for the first bluebird next week is the business. First though - have you loaded your @hothamalpineresort pass?
