22.01.2022 I am doing backflips after hearing the news earlier today. Yep, we are allowed to open again! It’s back to outside sessions only and 10 maximum at any one time for the moment but hey, with the warmer weather, longer daylight hours and an awesome verandah to keep you dry, Alpine Fitness Centre is the place to be again! SO, as of Monday, 21st Sept (next week) all classes (except Yoga and KnockOut Boxing) begin again. Added to this is 8 X 1 hour DIY gym sessions (2 for each pe...ak timeslot) per week. It’s back to the book in system as it will be for the foreseeable future to comply with COVID regulations. We need to adhere to strict hygiene procedures to minimise risk which means compulsory hand wipe on arrival, constant spraying of gear before, during and after your use and maintaining social distancing. Showers aren’t available yet but bathrooms will be. Due to the centre not being at full operating capacity until we can get back inside, your memberships will only recommence if you make a return to classes or DIY supervised gym workouts. TO MAKE CLASS OR GYM WORKOUT BOOKINGS, GO TO: https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=19592498 Any questions, please drop me an email - [email protected] or text me on 0421 999 124. I am not great at finding FB messages Can’t wait to see each and everyone of you again starting next Monday, Hershi

22.01.2022 GO ON BEAT MATT THE AFC INSTRUCTOR AT HIS OWN ISO CHALLENGE!! 30 Secs of Maximum Burpees. 'The Human Pancake!'

20.01.2022 OK Guys, we now have commitments from 30 of you to climb a local mountain or 2 this weekend. What this means, when I add up the combined elevations, is that we have 3 out of 7 of each continents highest mountains covered. We still need more of you to reach the 7 summits and our team goal of 40,660 metres. Even more amazing news is, with the super generosity of the people of Bright and our climbing group, we have already smashed through the $500 fundraising aim for Beyond Blue.... Now in the 700 hundreds, why not push for $1000 I say! Mountains covered already - Mt Everest (8848m), Aconcagua (6961m) and Kosciuszko (2228m). Now chasing Denali (6194m), Kilamanjaro (5895m), Mt ELbrus (5642m) and Mt Vinson (4892m). With 4 days left, the 7 summits remains possible!! Don't wait any longer, GET ON IT!! 18.01.2022 Hi there stranger! I hope you are keeping well! We sure are missing you at Alpine Fitness Centre during this second period of isolation and can’t wait to get the green light to open again!! Meanwhile I have an idea!! Sept 5/6 is the first weekend of Spring for what has been a very tough year for us. Apart from businesses and schools being shut down, compulsory isolation and COVID restrictions have made life pretty miserable for many within the local and national community.... To give this thing a real kick in the guts, spread some positivity, get the collective endorphins flowing and share some love, I challenge you to get a friend or your family together to climb one of our local mountains on Saturday the 5th and or Sunday the 6th of September. Here’s how it works: AFC ISO Seven Summits Mental Health Challenge Saturday and Sunday 5 and 6th September Charity: Beyond Blue Team Goal: As a group, to climb a combined total of 40,660 metres (the total height of the highest mountains in each of the seven continents) RULES Only 1 summit each day is counted You must climb with a friend or family It must be done on that weekend You must maintain social distancing Each climbers elevation is added to our team total I am in, what do I have to do? It’s simple: 1) Click on Beyond Blue link below and pay your (minimum) donation to the cause of $10 per person or family 2) Let Hershi know via email [email protected] what mountain/s you are planning to summit and who with 3) Climb the mountain, take your best photo and then email that through to win and go on our photo board PRIZE - The best photo wins a 3 month AFC gym membership for you or to give to a friend. Approximate Local Mountain Elevations (elevations taken from Clocktower) *you can choose your starting point and if you have one, your watch to measure elevation Huggins Lookout 140m Tower Hill Lookout 150m Valley View 245m Apex Lookout 310m Parrot Peak 370m Mystic Mountain 460m Clear Spot 675m Mt Porepunkah 860m GET ON IT!

So what does this mean for AFC? * We can train inside again ... * We are back to our regular hours of gym access for DIY sessions of Mon - Friday 6am till 8pm and Weekends 8am till 5pm * Provided we manage our spaces well with distancing requirements, class numbers are not limited to 10, we can now have 20 * We must maintain our current booking in procedures for tracing and participant number considerations (updating session times on Monday) * Front door swipe in will be up and running again * We must maintain thorough sanitation of equipment and workout spaces - that means in particular 1) towels are mandatory (can hire if you forget) 2) constant disinfectant spraying and wiping throughout workout 3) social distancing of 1.5m must continue All memberships will restart on Wednesday. I have only restarted those who have returned to training with us over these last weeks otherwise your membership has been on hold. 13.01.2022 Great job today Trekkers! I received lots of happy photos, messages and stories from summiteers today. Apparently Clearspot and Mt Porepunkah were like the Monash Freeway. We had quite a few late comers and extra donations which has put us up over $2,000 now and well over 50,000 metres of elevation will be completed over the weekend. The Herschells will be out hiking up Mt Porepunkah tomorrow from 9.30, look out for us. Happy Father’s Day!! PS Don’t forget to send me your bestest happy snap.

12.01.2022 Hi all, hope your Friday is going well and that you have an action packed weekend planned. Kristy and I are lucky to be joining our Bright Sherpa team for our 1 year anniversary of our Everest Base Camp adventure I can’t believe how lucky we were to have fitted this one in before the dreaded Covid hit. We are headed up to the Razorback and then back down to Harrietville for dinner, can’t wait! YOGALATES WITH TARA IS BACK The Best News is that one of our faves, Tara Cobbe ...is appearing back at AFC on Tuesday nights at 7.15pm with her super popular, world famous, awesomely effective Yogalates class. It’s not a new class for us as Tara has taken them here in our early days. Those who used to take the class loved it. Yogalates, as the name suggests, is a hybrid class involving some of the best practices of both Yoga and Pilates. This means you are guaranteed to get a great functional, postural, core strengthening and flexibility workout. Great as a cross trainer or if you are suffering chronic joint pain. Tara has developed the class after years of experience in the Fitness industry. You will leave this 45 minute session feeling fantastic and wanting to book for the next week! As with all of our classes, just go to the booking page to grab a spot. Be quick, numbers currently limited to 10!! https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=19592498 BOXING JUST AROUND THE CORNER Matt is chomping on the bit to get you guys boxing again! Hoping with some further relaxing of rules, and more so recommendations, we will be able to return to Monday nights ASAP. Stay tuned! RUNNING CLUB TIME TRIAL (8am Saturday morning) Want to find out where you are at? Come along to Running Club tomorrow morning and give our Cherry Walk time trail a crack. It’s the closest thing we have to a Park Run Time Trial at the moment and what a location to do it in. Haven’t done a timed effort there before? Even better, you will do a PB!! Weather looks amazing, see you at the start line AFC car park at 8am. Hershi

10.01.2022 Did you watch ‘Freeman’ on the abc tonight? Such a great recount of an amazing night. My no 1 sporting moment of all time, daylight to second. Catch on iview for a treat. Do you remember where you were that night?

06.01.2022 So here are my favourite 4 photos from the AFC Seven Summits Challenge on the weekend. It was nearly impossible to pick a winner between them due to the quality. As always, the result will be controversial. Given our challenge was all about mental health, and each photo put a smile on my face, I value and so appreciate them all. Thank you for your efforts and also everyone else who shared. Your happy faces made me happy. There was 1 that made me smile and laugh just that li...ttle bit more (yes even more than the unidentified Yeti). Getting people out and about was obviously also for physical Health and Fitness, and it's ironic that the winning photo portrays the exact opposite - SO WRONG GUYS BUT SO GOOD!! So, is it 'Kath and Kim' or was it 'Patsy and Edina' or maybe a combination of both perhaps. Brilliant guys. Congratulations to Pete Finch and Tara Cobbe. Your 3 month AFC membership will be waiting when we reopen.

06.01.2022 YAY, we are on our way to climbing the Seven Summits of the world and raising over $500 for Beyond Blue for our ‘Spring into Spring AFC Seven Summits’ Mental Health Challenge! 4 members committed yesterday to climbing Mt Porepunkah next weekend (Sept 5/6th) after reading my email yesterday. Great work guys!! That means, once these guys summit, we are nearly 9% of the way to climbing, as a group, the 7 highest peaks in each continent. ... These guys were generous and donated to $50 to Beyond Blue. So even better, we are 10% of the way into this goal. Go to this page for entry and donations https://workplace-fundraiser.everydayhero.com//afc-sevensu SO, what are you waiting for: Plan, team up, donate and then let me know your challenge so I can add our team total. Hershi

05.01.2022 Hi all, no running club this Saturday! We are joining Erin to do the Ora Holt walk from the Freeburgh Hall instead. Info is below including all the methods of travel. 9.30am for a 10am walk (or run) start over to Alpine Park, Wandi. An amazingly awesome cause, and course, we would love you to join us. Hershi

01.01.2022 WOOOHOOO! We have the 'Seven Summits' of the World now covered. Actually even more coming in as I post. 42,715 metres to elevate this weekend amongst more than 50 champions at last count. WHAT ABOUT FUNDRAISING? (Drum roll......) We now, as a group, have raised over $1500 for Beyond Blue who will direct the funds towards helping those who, in the current climate, really need their help! My start goal was $500 and the generosity of all you wonderful people has blown that figu...re to bits!! Now all we gotta do is: 1) Get out there 2) Climb our mountains and 3) Crack massive smiles at the top in achievement and the knowledge that we have been gifted the opportunity to do it. Many aren't able, allowed to or inspired to do so! Feel lucky and awesome at the top! Don't forget to email me your best HAPPY SNAP from your summit, best pic wins a 3 month AFC membership. The Herschell's will be out there tackling Mt Porepunkah on Sunday, will throw some (air) High FIves your way if we see you! ENJOY and THANK YOU so much for your amazing support, Hershi

01.01.2022 Wow, what a great weekend! You guys have absolutely blitzed and I am hoping you all enjoyed yourselves as the Herschell family did today. We got our boys up Mt Porepunkah for the first time and were lucky enough to catch some of our fave AFC members Jenny and Ian Young at the top along with another challenge donor, the lovely Michelle Kent and her family enjoying the sunshine. Mark Braithwaite was there on his big Beemer, it was great to see everyone enjoying their adventure... in a different way. Thanks to Ryan Peace and one of the fittest 7 year olds I know, Jordy Peace, for joining us on our Father’s Day adventure. A massive thank you to everyone who participated in our ‘Spring into Summer - 7 Summits’ challenge for mental health. Through your involvement, generous donations and positive vibes, we have really done something good. Up to nearly $2500 for donations for Beyond Blue and over 60,000 vertical metres - way exceeding what I thought we could do. Massive team effort! Haven’t had a chance to look over all the photos yet but have loved every one of them so far - big smiles, red faces and looks of achievement. Way to go!! Will post some over the next few days and announce a winner, a couple already stand out.... you know who you are! Thank you thank you thank you for being part of this! Hershi PS A special mention for one of the fittest and most caring ladies on this planet - not an exaggeration. Rosie Spicer, elite Bright triathlete, set her own challenge this weekend - she ‘Everested’ plus some on her bike, climbing 10,000 vertical metres. Can you imagine 17 hours of constant hard leg work without a break! What she did in one day, takes me 3 weeks!! You are a star Rosie and I thank you for your generous donation too.
