15.01.2022 PROJECT NEWS: Stanhope Anglican Church, Stanhope Gardens, NSW Soaring triangular walls shaped from patterned brickwork and glazing create a commanding facade for this new place of worship in Sydney’s northwest. The recently completed Stanhope Anglican Church occupies a prominent corner site in the growing residential suburb of Stanhope Gardens. The peaked facades of the building feature lattice brickwork in combination with Alspec window and door framing solutions shaped to f...it the angular dimensions. Products used include fixed glazing panels and a series of entry/exit doors which enclose both ends of the building, emphasising natural light while keeping the venue secure and well insulated. In constructing patterned brickwork in front of the windows, a glazing solution was required which would allow easy access for cleaning. Alspec’s Swan Evo 45mm Commercial Doors were installed, which provide the necessary access for cleaning, while maintaining a secure and energy efficient barrier when closed. Swan Evo doors are a popular Alspec product for both residential and commercial builds, being a hard-wearing door with robust construction which can accommodate panels up to 3m high. The doors can be configured in hinged, sliding or pivoted options as needed, and accept either single glazing 6mm-13.5mm or double glazing 18mm- 28mm. The Swan Evo doors tie in well with the Hunter Evo 150mm flush Glazed framing which was selected for the fixed glazed portions of the building. Hunter Evo framing is easy to fabricate and install and integrates with the full range of Alspec products. It will add to the building’s energy performance credentials and provide enhanced all-weather performance qualities thanks to self-draining sub sills which prevent water ingress. 15.01.2022 DESIGN INSPIRATION: Wildlife Retreat at Taronga. Imagine your next staycation at an elegant eco-retreat nestled in Taronga Zoo Sydney and overlooking Sydney Harbour. Enjoy an immersive zoo experience, with windows and balconies which look out across the habitat, access to a walk-through aviary, sanctuary exhibit and raised walkways across the native landscape. It also includes tours and talks aimed at building awareness of the threats to native species and highlights the i...mportance of the Zoo’s conservation programs. Designed with sustainability and a targeted 5-star green star rating in mind, the building has drawn on Alspec products which feature high performance credentials for the floor-to-ceiling glazing and sliding doors. On the façades, Hunter Evo 150mm Double Glazed Flush Framing was used to construct the interfaces between guests and the habitat. The Hunter framing can accommodate up to 40mm double glazed and is well suited to gently curved and faceted façades, such as featured in the dining and kitchen extension. 14.01.2022 DESIGN INSPIRATION (HALLOWEEN EDITION): No tricks, only treats at this designer home in Casuarina, NSW. The striking design of a new home on NSW’s north coast has been inspired by the architecture style "Googie", once considered futuristic and made popular during the space age era of the mid-20th century. Aptly named "The Jetsons" after the iconic 1960s animated television show, the Casuarina home features many Googie architecture traits such as curvaceous geometric shapes, ...minimalist interiors and the bold use of steel and glass. A key aspect of the expansive design is the 28 metre-long facade of floor-to-ceiling glazing, constructed using products from Alspec’s high performance window and door framing range. Situated on the oceanfront at Casuarina, just south of the Queensland border, this dramatic cantilevered home has been constructed over two levels, with the upper level offset by 45 degrees, providing both interest and practical shading to the lower level areas. The architectural design features large-scale indoor spaces which interact seamlessly with the outdoors, showcasing the superior spanning properties of the Hunter Evo Single Flush Glazed Framing and the ProGlide High Performance Sliding Doors. 07.01.2022 PROJECT NEWS: PICAC Learnability, Narre Warren, VIC The next generation of plumbers are set to learn their trade at Victoria’s first Net Zero Energy education facility. This Net Zero Energy building is highly efficient and self-supporting, generating its own energy and utilising the latest in sustainable building construction methods and components. Operating as a visual and hands-on textbook where trainee plumbers can see concepts in action, the facility in Narre Warren was ...developed by Plumbing Industry Climate Action Centre (PICAC) in association with IAPMO, an international research and certification organisation. It is the third campus FMSA Architecture have designed for PICAC. With window and door framing playing a crucial role in temperature control, Alspec’s ThermAFrame window and door framing products were a purposeful addition to the building exterior. Thermally broken frames deliver insulation, solar protection and contribute to the air-tight environment vital to the performance of a Net Zero Energy building.
