25.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators’ Day! Alto recognises and celebrate our educators’ wonderful contributions to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in Alto’s care. Thank you, Educators!

25.01.2022 We learned about the rainbow serpent. We read a book about the story and painted a snake to play with later. We also discussed boomerangs and their uses within Some Aboriginal communities and how they always come back. We started an investigation of some symbols used by aboriginal groups to symbolise things like waterhole, shelter, boomerang, river and dingo. We took turns to match them and trace them in the sand.

24.01.2022 This is your sandwich sir, where’s your money?... We decided to have a food stall on this beautiful sunny day! One child suggested himself to be the shopkeeper and immediately took a board and wrote ‘OPEN’, with the help of educator to spell it out. The children were using their creative skills in terms of thinking what languages to use in a shop, ie: ‘Welcome! What would you like to order?’ At times, the cashier didn’t know what to say, especially when they needed to collect payment from the customer. One child went, This is your sandwich sir, where’s your money?, which made us laughed so hard. They took turn to play different roles and even initiated a new role - the waiter, who did the recording of the food ordered on the board. What a beautiful learning experience!

23.01.2022 Our little ones are practicing on tracing letters in a tray full of dyed rice. The rice makes a lovely sound when it’s pushed around the tray and touching the sandpaper letters helps the children to begin recognising the formation of the sound ‘Tuh’

22.01.2022 Fathers’ Day Celebration on Zoom! Thank you all the dads and grandpas out there for the participation with your kids. This means the world to us and to them. Dear kids, don’t forget to make yummy pancake breakfast on this Sunday for your loved ones!

22.01.2022 Through a simple activity like growing mung beans, children learn about responsibilities from caring for plants and boosting their self-confidence from achieving their goals! We are glad to see the children taking initiative to take care of own as well as others plant

21.01.2022 Meanwhile, our girl here found her perfect spot to hide...

21.01.2022 Self-confidence is, even you think it may be hard to do it by yourself, yet not afraid to give it a try. This is dedicated to our confident child here who is obsessed with maps recently.

19.01.2022 Happy Chinese New Year to all who celebrate! We learnt about Chinese New Year through stories such as ‘The Story of Nian’ and ‘The Great Race-Chinese Zodiac’. Here’s a link if you would like to watch it again at home! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EZM5I-g4Kng One of our children shared her experiences of receiving red packets at home from her parents and how she helped to decorate her house for Chinese New Year. We also learnt some Chinese phrases ‘gong xi’ and ‘Xie Xie’, which means bless you and thank you, when children received the red packets. We did some crafts too - Chinese lanterns and painting blossom tree!

16.01.2022 All ready for tomorrow!

16.01.2022 Learning about life under the sea this week

15.01.2022 During our Montessori Work Cycle - A Montessori work cycle is an uninterrupted block of time (In Alto - 9.30am to 12.00pm). During this time children are able to explore the prepared environment and engage with materials of their own choice.

15.01.2022 There’s so much fun playing hide and seek with the kids, especially when you have kids asking the person (who supposed to get them) where to hide

14.01.2022 Do you know this week is actually our National Science Week(15/8-23/8)? Children were engaged in various experiments and the Travelling Rainbow was definitely one of their favourites! This experiment is a combination of science and Montessori Sensorial resource - Colour Tablets Box 3. Children arranged the tablets from the darkest to the lightest while waiting for the colours to be absorbed and mixed. They worked together to match the colour tablets to the nearest colour on the paper towel!

14.01.2022 Perfect day to harvest the carrots, all the way from the garden to the kitchen!

13.01.2022 Sensory water play - Rosemary scented water! Our little ones practiced fetching, pouring and scooping water, so much fun!

11.01.2022 Look who came to visit today! An echidna! We learnt more about echidna this afternoon too. Do you know echidna is an egg laying mammal? And they drink milk from their mummy too when they were young. These characteristics are similar to platypus! What a wonderful creature

09.01.2022 It’s amazing Nicko learns lots through Montessori methods

08.01.2022 Behind the scenes... One more zoom session went well today Thank you for your participation on every zoom sessions we had, this gave us confidence to do better and better each time. We felt too good to be able to connect with all the children during this tough period of time and to keep learning going (for both educators and children!) Stay tune to our lessons each week on Tuesday and Thursday!

04.01.2022 Learning parts of the flowers by dissecting lily with children attending school and zoom session

04.01.2022 Sometimes it is not just about building a maze, but the initiatives and teamwork involved that matter the most. We love to just sit back and listen to those conversations like I am trying to make something, Can I please join you?, I can do the next one, Let’s tip toe this time! etc.

04.01.2022 Another sharing is caring moment

03.01.2022 Truck, truck, truck! Drawing activities extended from children’s interest help to develop their observation skills and attention to details.
