24.01.2022 We visited for the first time today thoroughly enjoyed the walk around beautiful scenery and plants. Here are a few pics I took. Thank you to everyone that looks after this gem of a place.

23.01.2022 Just a friendly reminder to all who love to use the Reserve. Dogs are not permitted inside the Reserve, even on a leash. This is to avoid disturbing the native birds and animals. If you wish to take your dog on a walk we recommend the Sand Track which is located to the left of the Reserve entrance and proceeds to the west.

20.01.2022 I was chatting to one of the locals on the weekend & they mentioned sighting a koala in the reserve 12 months ago It is great to hear about these sightings as it affirms that the native species are enjoying the regeneration of the reserve If any of you reading this have sighted a species in the reserve fauna or flora which you particularly enjoyed finding we would love you to post some information to share your excitement

19.01.2022 Reserve closed today

18.01.2022 We need YOU. All those folks who used the reserve & commented on the reserve during the Barossa Covid restrictions we invite you to help us. This reserve is maintained by a core group of about five regulars who have the usual aging health issues and not some well oiled sleek organisation with loads of funds. We are keen to find someone who has knowledge of the plants indigenous to this area as this is something we have lacked recently as members have become less available & also any people who are enthusiastic about maintaining this heritage area for the future. Remember to bring your own water , gloves & snack. The closest toilets are Lyndoch.

16.01.2022 Last volunteer working bee for 2019. More weeds removed , 2 benches painted & the new Donation sign put on the container for visitors to find the slot if they have any loose change to spare. The birds of the day were the rufous whistler & yellow rumped thornbills hanging about the shipping container. Merry Xmas everyone.

15.01.2022 The reserve is taking off with lots of new growth & flowering plants enjoying the rain. Bird SA recently conducted a birdwatching walk through the reserve for their members & 43 birds were identified. The orchids are flowering along the tracks

08.01.2022 Spring has arrived Today the volunteers experienced a small rain shower however the beautiful scenery made it worth getting outside & enjoying nature. More orchids are flowering with the Black Fire Orchid being the star of the day The photos were taken on a mobile phone as we worked therefore please excuse the quality.

08.01.2022 Thursday volunteering has started up again at the reserve with members being kept busy with plenty of weeding . Thank you to those folks who have kindly been putting donations in our Donation slot in the shipping container. The money donated contributes to the cost of things such as equipment, brochure printing & hiring contractors for weed management. If anyone is interested in volunteering from 9-12 on a Thursday please send a message to our inbox with a contact telephone number.

Work involves weeding, clearing paths , spraying feeds , fixing fences etc. Anyone is welcome to join us as there is a mixture of tasks . Please bring your own drink & snack for your morning tea. Dont forget your hat & plenty of water on hot days . We will find out if our new Donation sign was successful

07.01.2022 Another nice day at the reserve The much needed rain has encouraged lots of new growth, flowers & of course many weeds. Todays volunteers workshop was spent meeting a visitor who joined our working bee, locating fox dens & spreading gravel on the tracks The reserve received a lovely note & kind donation from an anonymous visitor Thank you

07.01.2022 Melanie Raines photographed this beauty today at the reserve Sand Goanna also called Gould’s Goanna

06.01.2022 Volunteers have been active today at the usual Thursday working bee. Most of you would probably be surprised to know that only 4-6 volunteers usually work on a Thursday to maintain this reserve. We do have dedicated volunteers who are unable to attend the working bees for various reasons. Anyone wanting to assist with group activities is welcome to join. As the weather is getting hotter we are winding down for the year. Walkers please try & stay to the tracks as snakes are about in the reserve. We were lucky to be serenaded today by the Common Bronzewing & watched by a Shingleback lizard & kangaroos as we weeded out the invasive flowering Scabiosa & checked the fox dens. The reserve is very dry however the native lilies are still providing a show.

05.01.2022 Today we connected with this gorgeous country and visited Altona CSR Landcare Reserve and enjoyed the late winter / early spring blooms and wildlife in the region. Soooo many beautiful birds. It used to be a sand mine, but looked like ochre and clay too. Just beautiful

05.01.2022 Thursday’s regular volunteer group had a lovely day weeding & monitoring the reserve which is an important part of the work Volunteers regularly check for things such as damage to fences & signs, branches fallen across tracks, new outbreaks of the invasive weeds & feral animal activities. The echidnas are our and about. Lots of walkers have been enjoying the reserve. Anyone is welcome to join us Just send a message on our FB page & we will contact you

03.01.2022 Stay safe folks Reserve closed 30/1/2020

02.01.2022 Update on the Working Bee : On a negative note our volunteer recruitment exercise last Saturday morning did not achieve the number of new volunteers for which we had hoped. On a positive note a lovely morning working in the reserve was had by some of the current members of the Landcare group. We did have one new volunteer come along & who returned again yesterday which was fantastic. Remember folks you are welcome to join us anytime & we can make the occasional weekend working bees a regular event. I don’t think our group is any different to any other voluntary groups who are struggling to find volunteers. See you up the reserve sometime

02.01.2022 *** RESERVE CLOSED *** In line with our normal practice the Reserve will be closed tomorrow due to the Total Fire Ban. Access will remain closed during the SA Health advised state wide shutdown for the Covid-19 outbreak. As ALL outdoor exercise has been cancelled the Reserve will remain closed until restrictions are lifted.... Please stay safe and look after your family and friends/neighbours.

02.01.2022 The CFS have extended the fire ban for tomorrow due to the severe fire risk overnight. For this reason the Reserve will remain closed until Friday morning.
