24.01.2022 On this day last year our Women's Metro B North West side became Premiers for 2019! They dominated the entire home and away season and finished with a bang taking out the grand final 4-1 against Craigieburn HC. Congratulations to our still reigning champions!!

23.01.2022 187 PL games, 63 goals, firefighter and a country music aficionado; today we meet Pat Phillips. Patrick Phillips Pat, Patty or Second fastest man at the club. ' ? Altona Junior since 2003, MPL Squad member, EOST specialist, but mostly you'll find me at the back of the running pack during training sessions. (one in front of Joshua Pace) ... ? Turning up to my first training session at the Snake Pit and getting involved with an under 13 scratch match. After the first six minutes, Matt Briscoe had hit four goals and I was lucky enough to get my first touch for a push back. But Briscoe told me I had to pass it straight to the other team to restart the game little did I know he'd be stitching me up for the next 15 years. ? Steve Campbell. I've seen him train for 10+ years and I've never seen junior players run so quickly to get away from him when its time to start hitting up. ? So many to name: OC v YC, end of season trips, pre-season trips to New Zealand, winning Higgo's 300th down in Ballarat in the dying seconds, drawing with Doncaster to make our first finals series, Playing under 17's and juniors, getting the number 2 off Drakey and John Jumpertz. ? I don't think I've seen any Altona player get a card at the Snakepit in my time. If the rare one did occur, you can bet they would tell you why it wasn't their fault after the game (Connar Otterbach) ? Footscray, Essendon, or maybe that rugby-jumper wearing orange lot. ' , ' ... Most likely watching the 2016 AFL Finals series on repeat. Or missing a lot of training sessions due to shift-work or renovating at home. - ? Sitting in the same seat at the snake pit and secretly touching Jesse Gatt's Grays stick when he's not looking for good luck and because I know he hates it. ' ' ? 2019-2020 AHC MPL Squad Footy Tipping champion. ' '? Bit of Luke Combs or Florida Georgia Line. ? Watching the Sea-gals and A-boys on a Sunny Saturday or Sunday. Or always getting positive reinforcement from the Altona Army after I send one into the back of the council yards! We promised we would share this highlight video of Pat scoring in 2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEr6oSojAAw

14.01.2022 Happy Sunday! Today, we meet Carla 'Roogirl' Ruhe. Carla Ruhe Ruhey / Roogirl ' ? Started playing with the club in 1999... ? Completing my first pre-season with Chunk as coach. He stood in the corner with a whistle making us sprint lengths of the field over and over again. I kept thinking 'what have I got myself into here?' ? Tiff 'Bums down' Bartlett, she took me under her wing when I first arrived at the club - taught me so much on the field as well as how to dance on the bar! But all my girls...I won't list them as I'm bound to forget someone! ? Winning the premiership in 2005. Scoring my one and only SL1 goal against Albury. Every Saturday night at the Legends Bar. The $2000 draws. Hockey trips to the Albury and Echuca carnivals, as well as the grand final weekends that never ended! ? Tracey Drake - easily. Her red card against Powerhouse was priceless. ? Footscray, but only when we beat them ' , ' ... Hanging out with my dog at the park or travelling to amazing places - ? Eat a banh mi roll 3 hrs beforehand ' ' ? I don't think I've managed to keep anything about me a secret from the club! ' '? Anything Cat Stephens ? The family environment and the life long friendships I've made. See more

13.01.2022 This week's Meet a Member needs no introduction: Tim Symons Timothy Symons Timmy, Timbo or Big Fella ' ? A purebred seagull through and through. I am the favourite child from Batty (Karen Symons) and Symo (Peter Symons). I was brought up around the club and now play third-grade - mainly missing tomahawks. You’ll also find me running around the canteen and organising lit functions....Continue reading

12.01.2022 Today we meet our Premier League captain and the club's inclusion ambassador, Bronte Kerley. Bronte Kerley ' ? Player ? Being handed a stick from the ‘stick bin’ from Eric Coleman when I was 8. I was watching my brother’s U/9s training session because I had broken my arm and wasn’t allowed to play netball. I was told to join in apparently playing with a cast is totally fine i...n hockey! ? Geez, how do you pick just one!? I’ve always admired Steve Campbell and Justine ‘Juzzie’ Cooke both the epitome of fierce and class. Oh also have always loved watching Steph Young and Danni Schu; there have been many times mid-game where I’d be so impressed with what they had just done, and I’d have to remind myself to get on my bike because I’m playing too! One last one! Lauren Winship is a fiend at right half! Love playing with her as she shreds up the flank. Overlap Queen! ? Would have to be the game we played back in 2014/15 against Greensborough in Ballarat. We were not far off the bottom table and playing top 4, possibly a top 2, Greensborough. We had managed to match them the whole game in a very physical and gritty match. It was 2-2 with only a few seconds on the clock and Kelsey Fox had earned a free hit just inside the five of our circle, on the right-hand side. We had this set play, that had only worked every now and then for us that year. Kelsey drew the player towards her and dumped the ball to me running behind her. I slapped the ball from the baseline to the spot where Steph Young got a stick on it for deflection into the roof. I probably indulged a bit too much in that memory then, but boy it was a glorious win haha ? Hmm, I’m going to have to say Phoebe Rothfield. Has a good collection from back in the day ? Footscray. Definitely. ' , ' ... Making something crafty, designing health products, or organising something social or inclusive for the club. - ? Eggs on toast for brekky and a decent foam roll and stretching session. ' ' ? Managed to start two house fires before the age of three... lol ' '? Absolutely Everybody by Vanessa Amorosi. The girls love it as a pre-game jam... ? It’s family! See more

12.01.2022 For today's Meet a Member, we catch up with former SL1 Captain and Cyril Turner Award recipient, Kate Holland. Kate Holland Junior/Junes (I also get mistaken for my sister in law Shaz, so perhaps that is another nickname?) ' ? Current WPL player. Made my come back last season to have some fun under Merryn Brennan as coach after a 9-year break due to kids.... ? My brother Steve Mills and Sharon's engagement party was where I was first introduced to a handful of State League (what it was back in the early 2000s) players, including the current coach Ian "Bones" Bartlett whom encouraged me to come and join the AHC family. What a great decision that was! ? Ian Bartlett, Steve Campbell, get my defensive inspiration from my brother Steve Mills (of course), Bronte Kerley and Danielle Shuu. Also can't forget my two tiger pals Carla Ruhe & Brian Fanning. ? Captaining the 2005 WSL2 Premiership team is a pretty big highlight. I always loved the Summer comp we played in, the KFA's (Kids From Altona) smashed it every year and then celebratory beers afterwards at the pub. Receiving the Cyril Turner Memorial Award in 2010 for best club person was definitely a highlight. ? Brian Fanning, Greg or Tracey Drake ? Greensborough has always been a good rivalry and especially the times we beat them in SL1 when we were the underdogs. It was always a good feeling as I remember one season we played them in the last game of H&A season at the SNHC and we smashed them 6 -1, that was a ripper day. ' , ' ... Running around after my kids and their sports and birthday parties they seem to have a better social life than me when we aren't in lockdown. Or at home watching Netflix and hanging out with my family - ? Not really, although often if I have a good game, the following weeks I will try and keep the same routine. I do like to pump the old school songs on the drive to the game ' ' ? For those who know me, not much. But as a kid I always liked to be nude we have photos of me swimming in our pool nude (possibly age 5) with other people over, thanks Mum! I also had open heart surgery 4 years ago, so it is nice to be back playing after a big operation. ' '? Run to Paradise - Choir Boys ? The culture of the club. It is so inclusive, family orientated and supportive, especially during finals campaigns. A lot of my best friends are from AHC and I can't imagine not being a part of this fabulous club. See more

10.01.2022 Happy Sunday! Today, we meet the spiritual leader of Men's Pennant B squad Hamish Hudson. Hamish Hudson... Hammer/Muscles ' ? Tackling clinician and often reluctant spiritual leader of the Men's Pennant B squad. ? Getting shown the ropes by none other than the great Steve Campbell at my first ever training in under 13s. And being ordered to run laps by superstar coaching duo Michael Gallo and Josh Young for mucking around at training too much in under 15s. ? As much as I have a deep love for Jaryd Prentice, it's hard to go past the powerhouse that is Tim Symons. ? Playing a home game in the rain circa 2005, before the old ground was updated, trying to hit the ball out of a 10x10m pool in the middle of the field. Not an easy task. ? David Howell has certainly seen the cheese once or twice in his time. ? I take great enjoyment in getting under the skin of the lads out at Waverley. ' , ' ... Having a boogie somewhere on a seedy dancefloor, drumming, hiking, running, eating, playing Scrabble and struggling to keep up with work. - ? Arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before game time. ' ' ? I'm fluent in Haiku (@hams_haikus). ' '? I don't believe in guilty pleasures. If it's a banger, why feel guilty? Having said that, I'll go with Lips of an Angel - Hinder. ? The questionable scent of Cherry Lake and Altona Beach drifting over the field, accompanied by a symphony of DIY lawn-mower-motor-bikes sending it on a Wednesday evening. In all seriousness, nothing beats having a laugh and a run around with 10 of your mates on a Saturday afternoon, week in week out, to the passionate cheers and blind support of the Altona extended family on the sidelines. Home sweet home. See more
