20.01.2022 Sail Bellarine 2021 VIODA is delighted to announce that the inaugural Sail Bellarine event is being planned for the 1st and 2nd of May 2021. The organiser obje...ctive is to emulate the successful formula developed by the Sail Country team - a social event aimed at all sailing generations with a focus on having fun, hanging out with your sailing buddies and having some awesome racing on one of Victoria’s most beautiful sailing locations. This new event is a joint collaboration between Indented Head YC, Port Arlington YC and St. Leonard’s YC - three clubs on the Bellarine peninsula. A great opportunity for Optimist sailors to sail with Optimist champion Aidan Simmons and his brother Callum in their home club! The organisation is putting together a program that provides an exciting racing schedule over two days together with plenty of opportunity to relax on the shores of Port Phillip Bay and enjoy some of the local treats such as wineries, cideries and gourmet foods and much more. For this first event, entries are restricted to Lasers, Optis, Tasars, Impulses and Sabres. The number of boats for this event will be capped at around 120 with separate caps for each of the different classes. There will be camping available right next to Indented Head YC thanks to Bayside Bellarine opening up their camping facilities exclusively for this event. There will also be lots of catering options on-site to allow participants to just turn up, pitch their tent/van and settle in for the weekend. The event will be 100% volunteer run so all volunteers who can assist are welcome and can get in touch with Phil Viney at [email protected] - he’d love to hear from you. The organisers anticipate that we’ll be opening up registrations early in the new year. In the meantime stay safe and feel free to reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions.

15.01.2022 Dear Sailing/Boating members, The water police will be conducting a blitz this weekend and will be fining people breaking these restrictions. In regards to family members from the same house sailing together. This is fine as long as they can also keep the 1.5 meter social distancing requirements. Until we can gain further clarity on this, I recommend that everyone follows these guidelines. We need to bring to the attention of those that plan to sail during the new restrictions the advice we have received today from our peak body Australian Sailing (Victoria). Refer to the AYC website for further information. https://www.revolutionise.com.au/altonayachtclub/news/

06.01.2022 The strong wind warning today meant the race was abandoned. It was a very hot day, up to 45C when I got in the car and a very strong northerly blowing. The campers came up to the meeting room where there is a cooler and we sat havinfg cold drinks and watched some silly folk out in boats and on jet-skis. The sand at the doggy beach was whipped up and we could hardly see the city.

05.01.2022 Our Junior Rohan is staying in Scotland with his grandmother and gets to go sailing. Enjoy for all us Rohan. Send a message to Rohan.

02.01.2022 Today, Biddy Hu's big brother (a Beneteau ) was watching the races close up and keeping a close eye on the wee brother with Paul Lindemann at the helm. That is him with the big red Ronstan sign on the sail. 2 races got in today with a few general recalls. They soon settled down once the U Flag went up. Tomorrow may be a blow out as there are hot strong winds coming.
