25.01.2022 Special message from the AMAHOF President and board members

25.01.2022 Some of the Tasmanian contingent attending the AMAHOF Induction Dinner

25.01.2022 I love this one. I have had this same look too, or at least thinking the same way when I have run into an old student whilst out shopping. They feel the need to justify that they quit training for some reason by saying they are coming back but most never do. ... For those few that do I congratulate you all for having the courage to get back in a dojo and start training again. Remember you are never to old to do martial arts, or return to training again. Maybe try a different martial art style that might suit your current needs and lifestyle more if you don’t want to return to the same style. There is something for everyone in martial arts of all ages. The journey never ends, sometimes we just need to follow a different path. Have a wonderful day everyone, GM Hockley

24.01.2022 Last night of AMAHOF 2018. George Adams of BJJ fame and Soke Les Elliott at the end of four years at the helm. Fun and interesting weekend with a variety of martial arts seminars. Good to see the camaraderie between the arts.

23.01.2022 Wise words from a true martial arts Master

22.01.2022 I love this saying. This applies not only in the martial arts community, but also in every day life. Think back to your childhood and the role models you had, or that teacher who really cared about you and your success. ... What about your Grandparents? I know for me personally that my late Pa, taught me so many lessons in life. Sometimes he didn’t even speak a word, but when I was ready to learn he was always willing to share his words of wisdom. Even now 20+ years after his death I still learning from his words. To all the martial arts teachers in the world remember we have one of the best jobs in the world. Each day we get to help someone in some way. Everyone needs a teacher & role models in life. When you are truly ready to learn, just look around and the right person will be there to help you grow. Have a fantastic day everyone, Anthony

22.01.2022 Train hard, train smart, train often, be humble and teach with kindness. No one ever achieved anything of real value without hard work, desire, commitment and courage to conquer their own fears. The martial arts journey never ends, we just follow different paths, Anthony

22.01.2022 You will be amazed (1.32mins) Kevin Prime’s amazing journey began 39 years ago, when at the age of 15 he experienced a partial loss of his left arm. It was never going to be a barrier learning Judo, as you will see how effective he is demonstrating his skills.

22.01.2022 Hello, Once again it is that important time in the Martial Arts yearly calendar, the Nomination of potential members for induction into the Australasian Martial arts Hall of Fame and World Karate Union Hall of Fame. The new 2019 Nomination Form is now available on the website. I have also included a copy with this letter. Please address all correspondence to the Secretary.... The venue for the 2019 is our Nation’s Capital City, Canberra once again. For those were fortunate to attend our last visit to Canberra will remember how successful it was. Our planning committee under Chairman Ed Scharrer has secured an impressive venue for our prestigious weekend for Induction of new members into AMAHOF. The weekend will also include personal displays in personal skill of Inductees, seminars by senior Masters in many Arts forms and the Induction Dinner (Black tie). In many cases it is just meeting up with old friends that AMAHOF has introduced. Please note the cut-off date for applications; this is needed for the planning and acquisition of items for the Induction process. John Whipp AM, CSM. President AMAHOF

21.01.2022 Martial Arts is about making a better community. I would hope that as a professional martial arts teacher that I am helping to promote a positive outlook in the... world. I treat everyone with respect and greet people with a handshake and a smile. I treat people the way I like to be treated. Having good manners and caring about others is what this world needs. I don’t care about the colour of your skin, your religious beliefs, the job you work in, or were you live and the car you drive. All that matters to me is that through training in martial arts we are all connected and trying to improve ourselves. Being nice to someone when they have nothing to offer you in return is not a new thing it is an old thing. It’s called Integrity, something a lot of people lack these days. If you give out love in the world you will always feel better and it creates a positive community. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

20.01.2022 Some words of wisdom for today that we all can learn from

20.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I wish to inform all AMAHOF members and friends that today at 8am our former Treasurer Arlene Whipp passed away. On behalf of all AMAHOF members and friends, I would like to send my sincere condolences to our President Johnny Whipp AM, CSM and his family at this very sad time. Arlene did so much to help promote AMAHOF, and brighten the room at our annual events. A beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit and a heart of gold. ... It is hard to know what to say at this sad time as I fight back tears of sadness writing this about my dear friend. RIP Arlene, you will be sadly missed but never forgotten by those at AMAHOF. We love you always, Anthony & Kelly Hockley

14.01.2022 Integrity - Gi Is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching - C.S. Lewis Integrity is the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles, or moral uprightness. It is a personal choice to hold one’s self to consistent standards. Have a wonderful day everyone,... Anthony See more

14.01.2022 The martial arts journey is a personal one. It is not just about achieving belts, but rather perfection of ones character. Becoming a better version of yourself... comes through self discovery and many hard hours in the dojo. The many hurdles and challenges that come from training in martial arts helps your body, mind and spirit. Black Belt is only the first step of a staircase to higher achievements in life, not just rank. Far too many people quit too early in life as it is the easy option. Results will always come if you continue to train consistently each week, month and year. Enjoy the journey and learn from not just your achievements, but also from your disappointments. All good things happen after the hard work and commitment is put in. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

13.01.2022 AMAHOF is proud to announce our new President as of 18th of August 2018- Mr Johnny Whipp, AM, CSM. He replaces Les Elliott, who has served his term. Thank you to Les, for all his efforts, and also to his organising committee for a job well done. Hobart was a great success, now you can all relax and enjoy next years event without having to do all the hard work.... AMAHOF now has a new Executive Committee and Board of Directors. We are all working together to help promote AMAHOF and bring new and exciting things to our events. On behalf of all our members I would like to personally welcome our new President Johnny Whipp into his term. If you are a financial member and have any open community events or items of interest. Please email me at; [email protected] Please promote and share our Facebook posts of AMAHOF, so we can make it last at least another 22 years. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony Hockley

12.01.2022 Current Financial Members of AMAHOF who are hosting community based events are invited to forward the event information to [email protected] so that we can share here for everyone. 12.01.2022 Martial Arts is about so much more than just learning self defence. The benefits we gain through training in martial arts last us a lifetime. Train often, train smart, respect everyone in the dojo, teach with kindness and stay humble. Have a wonderful week everyone, Anthony

10.01.2022 Here are a few words of wisdom for everyone to think about today. Have a fantastic day everyone, GM Hockley AMAHOF VP

10.01.2022 AMAHOF is approaching its 24 year of history. When I think of AMAHOF I think Respect, Integrity, Friendship, Dedication, Honour, Commitment, Wisdom and Self discovery. Here are just a few photos of some of the wonderful people in our AMAHOF family, which study all different styles of martial arts.... Train hard, train smart, teach with kindness and above all stay humble. Enjoy your personal journey of knowledge and self discovery in the martial arts, GM Anthony Hockley VP AMAHOF

10.01.2022 Train regularly, be patient, work on accuracy first, speed and power later, be humble and kind with everyone you meet and train with. Never quit and you will on...e day earn your own Black Belt. It is not a race to see how fast you can get your black belt. A black belt is merely the beginning of your training not the end. You will soon discover that being a black belt is just another step up in your own life’s journey of self discovery and character development. Black Belt is a life long commitment of improvement in all areas of your life. Those that quit after getting their black belt fail to understand that by doing so all that you really have is a nice diploma to put on your wall and stories of what you use to train in to tell your friends. This happens because people focus too much on a belt and not about enjoying the journey of learning. Yes it is a wonderful thing earning your black belt but being a black belt is not a one day thing, it is a for life thing. The journey never ends and with years of commitment in the dojo comes wisdom and many more stories to share with your friends. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

09.01.2022 Quote of the day from Prof.Kano, founder of Kodokan Judo

09.01.2022 Hello fellow AMAHOF members, As you likely know this year's annual dinner and awards ceremony has been postponed and will hopefully be amalgamated with the event to be held in Sydney in 2021. Nonetheless, our annual membership fee is now due.... It would be appreciated if you could contact Steve Weston as soon as possible for details on how to renew/register or with any questions: Steve Weston Secretary AMAHOF [email protected]. 0408990859

09.01.2022 AMAHOF Members - Last year we introduced a special category to recognise the contribution and support given to Martial Artists over many years by their long suffering Spouses / Partners. Please visit the web site for more details and get your nominations in ASAP.

09.01.2022 Being a martial arts teacher is truly an honour. We get to serve those that need something more in their life. Everyone has a different way of learning, different goals and different needs. As a teacher it is our job to help them in every way we can to achieve their personal goals. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

08.01.2022 It is important to remember that in your training, accuracy should always come first, then speed and power. Too many people focus on doing things fast all the time. Slow down and work on your accuracy in all areas of your techniques and forms etc...... Remember the martial arts are supposed to be studied for life. Practice slowly and enjoy your journey. Be humble and kind and practice often. I look forward to seeing people in Canberra this week for our AMAHOF annual awards weekend. I will be teaching a Kali-Silat seminar on Sunday, I hope to see you there on the mats. Have a wonderful week everyone, Anthony

08.01.2022 In life it is the little things that matter, breathing is one if these things. It is important to remember to breath properly and focus, especially when applying techniques or sparring. The Japanese have a saying, ‘TOO MANY MINDS’... Breathing properly helps everything become clearer and easier. We tend to think about too many things at once and need to learn how to focus more. Have a fantastic day everyone, Anthony

08.01.2022 2020 has been a very difficult year for most people, with so many of us experiencing loss in some way, shape or form. In times of struggle, I always think about one of my favourite Japanese proverbs; Fall down seven times, Stand up eight.... No matter what life throws at us, we just have to keep moving forward in a positive direction. Have a wonderful day everyone, GM Anthony Hockley Vice President AMAHOF

08.01.2022 Great weekend in Hobart Tasmania at the Australian Martial Arts hall of Fame. Below the three amigos Soke Tony Ball, Kancho Terry Lim and and Shidoshi Grant Bannister.

08.01.2022 Stay humble, be kind, train with a pure heart with no ego. Get out of your comfort zone often and grow, as not just a martial artist, but as a person. We are all beginners regardless of what belt we wear around our waist. This applies to all martial arts styles not just BJJ. When we tap in training we learn more than just technique and our weaknesses, we also learn other important life lessons which develop our character. Have a fantastic week everyone,... 08.01.2022 Here are some wise words from a true Master, to think about today. Have a wonderful day day everyone, Anthony

07.01.2022 On behalf of all the directors of AMAHOF we wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year in 2019. We look forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones at our awards weekend in Canberra in August. Have a wonderful day, Anthony

07.01.2022 Beginning is easy, continuing is hard - Japanese Proverb 2020 has been a very difficult year for most people in Australia and around the world. However life goes on still in difficult times. ... Keep thinking positive thoughts and keep moving forward in a positive direction. Everyone has been affected by this Coronavirus, so let us all just do the best we can and help each other. For those who have lost a love one during these difficult times, I send you love and best wishes to you and your family. I understand the feeling as I too lost a family member during these COVID-19 restrictions. Continue your martial arts journey, even if you have to take a different path for a while. Best wishes to everyone, GM Anthony Hockley AMAHOF Vice President

06.01.2022 In life the biggest hurdles we have are self doubt. There is enough negativity in the world without adding our own self sabotage. As a Reiki Master/Teacher, I am aware that no one in this world is perfect and we all have our own good and bad traits. If we could all travel through life greeting everyone with a handshake and a smile, I think the world would be a better place. I believe that as a martial artist you should be a positive role model inside and outside the dojo. ... Being humble and kind to others and loving yourself helps balance our own thought process. We are what we say and repeatedly do, so if the worst enemy is between your own ears, it’s time to let it go and live a happy life. Easier said than done sometimes, but well worth doing. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

06.01.2022 Help make the world a better place by being a positive role model for others. Be friendly on purpose and smile often

06.01.2022 The martial arts teaches us so many life lessons. More than kicks, punches, throws, grappling skills etc... With each new belt level comes more challenges, more knowledge, more self confidence and more questions. The true martial arts journey is about self discovery and improvement of oneself. If you have been in the martial arts for a long time, you will tell old stories and live in the past from time to time. ... Telling your students about the old style training and how it use to be, always makes me smile and remember. However planting the seeds in the garden for the new generation to grow is the most important. Living in the present, but planning for a positive future is what we all need to focus on. Never forget your past, learn from it and keep moving forward. Many who started life with you will not continue in your life traveling the same path. Being part of a dojo has many benefits not just learning self defence. Making life long friendships all around the world is possible by training in the martial arts. Some friends become truly like family and help you grow. Everyone in life has there own personal battles to deal with. Martial arts is a way of channeling positive energy into your life even if inside you are suffering. I personally have battled with depression for many years due to loss of family relationships, but thanks to my martial arts family, I now live back in the present with a positive attitude on life. It doesn’t matter what style of martial arts you train in, all that matters is that you learn from a qualified teacher who truly cares about your personal needs. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

06.01.2022 2020 Nomination Packs are now available via the AMAHOF website: http://www.amahof.asn.au/ or email: [email protected] for further details

05.01.2022 I love this quote. There is no perfect style, or the perfect teacher. However there is the right style and the right teacher for you. As long as you are learning, enjoying your training and following the true martial arts path of knowledge and improvement in your character, then the style you train in does not matter.... With so many styles to choose from, first ask yourself what you want out of your training? Then do your research and find a good teacher. The cheapest school doesn’t mean it is the best, nor does the biggest and most expensive school. Choose based on what you need, not what others tell you, you need. Everyone travels their own path, so enjoy your journey in the martial arts with the right teacher for you. Remember a good teacher will always help you achieve what you need. They are meant to serve you and your needs. Being regularly taken out of your comfort zone in training will make you grow, but safety should always be a priority in all schools. Have a wonderful day everyone, GM Anthony Hockley VIce President AMAHOF

05.01.2022 2018 AMAHOF & WKUHOF awards in Hobart. Here are a few photos from our wonderful weekend. Thank you to everyone who participated in this special event. It is always great to catch up with old friends and make new ones. Next years awards will be held in Canberra, I hope to see even more members and friends at this event, Anthony

04.01.2022 Just a reminder to members , that the nominations for 2017 Sydney, will close on the 28th Feb 2017. Les Elliott ,President

04.01.2022 From all the board members of AMAHOF, we wish everyone in Australia & around the world a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year in 2020.

03.01.2022 If you have trained in martial arts for decades, or only just a few years one thing you need to experience is some discomfort in your training. I remember back in the old days of my training holding those horse stances low and strong for what felt like years. If someone complained about it hurting, we would then have to hold it for a longer time. Patience is the first lesson everyone needs to learn in martial arts training.... As I have said before, through pain and hard work comes wisdom, personal growth and real achievements. Thanks to my old school, hard style Sifu/Sensei I experienced pain back then. I must admit some lessons I did not enjoy much like getting hit with a staff in the stomach at the end of each class to test my correct breathing. Now years later I truly understand the lessons he once gave me. This image brings back many happy, but sometimes painful memories. Enjoy your martial arts journey my friends. Have a wonderful day, Anthony

03.01.2022 Welcome to 2020 and a new and exciting year of training in the martial arts. It doesn’t matter what style you train in, or which country your art comes from, or the rank your wear. All that matters is that you enjoy what you do, and strive to do it better each day, whilst setting a positive example for the next generation of martial artists. Enjoy your martial arts journey this year, I hope we can all learn many new life changing lessons and improve ourselves each day.... Best wishes to you all for a wonderful year, Anthony

03.01.2022 This is not always an easy lesson to learn, but needed in your martial arts journey of self discovery. Correct breathing, posture and patience can also help. Have a wonderful day everyone, Anthony

03.01.2022 This quote is so true, and we all need to remember this in all martial arts. Regardless of the belt rank we wear around our waist, we all need to continually learn new things and grow. In the end, martial arts is a life long journey of self discovery and constant improvement. COVID-19 is not an excuse to not train, but a reason to train harder and set new goals.... Best wishes to you all, GM Anthony Hockley VP AMAHOF

02.01.2022 Kata (traditional forms) are just movements of the human body. They are muscle-memory building tools used to get your body coordinated and at the same time lear...n movements that can be applied in a combative situation. The only difference is what happens afterwards: training to apply it. Thank you, Karate Culture for making such a great video.
