25.01.2022 Making a career change or setting development goals? A great starting point is identifying your current capabilities. 23.01.2022 Please help me decide on the title and tag line to my new book. It is an holistic, practical and empowering guide to help you change your career and life for the better. In a format akin to the Barefoot Investor meets What Color is Your Parachute but reimagined and in bite size pieces, it combines relatable stories, current research and practical advice on how to identify and secure meaningful work in a new future. Please leave a comment on 1, 2, 3 or 4 or suggest something else. #career #jobs #books

17.01.2022 Positive body image You can’t tell from looking at someone if they have a positive body image. It’s not about having a great body or even loving everything about it. It’s about happily looking in the mirror and loving, honouring, respecting and appreciating your body despite what the others say. Marika Tiggemann from Flinders University researches positive body image. Listening to a session she delivered, ... self-esteem, optimism, improved healthier practices and protection against damaging media exposure were just some of the benefits correlated with positive body image from multiple research sources. If we can find a way to foster and nurture positive body image in people, it could positively impact people’s health and wellbeing. We see momentum in the social movement around Positive Body Image and it’s time for the corporate world to consider it as part of the ever-increasing health and wellbeing programs. Professor Tiggemann's tips for nurturing a positive body image in yourself and others; Appreciate what your body can do Focus on the strengths, not the imperfections Mindful self-care and self-compassion Activities like yoga, walk in nature, meditation, running Don’t compare yourself to others Please comment or share your thoughts. (Definition of positive body image above adapted from definition from Tylka & Wood-Barcalow 2015)

15.01.2022 My daughter posted her stories on an open App under an alias. One of the stories has had over 96K views. From the second sentence onwards, there are spelling mistakes and it is clear that a fourteen year old wrote it. But the readers on this platform don't seem to mind. They love her story. I think there is a lesson in that for many of us. It doesn't need to be perfect to have an impact. Is waiting until you make it perfect, stopping you from taking a risk?

15.01.2022 Skills to embrace ambiguity in the workplace. From a discussion with Dr. Jon Hopwood and Swinburne Uni Leadership participants we landed on some practical skills to help leaders and teams embrace Ambiguity. The four key take aways we landed on for Leaders were;... 1. Dialogue - even when we don't have the "right" or a "definitive" answer, open and honest dialogue with our teams 2. Finding a way to create a safe space for the leadership team to share their challenges and open discussion 3. Small experiments - try something and review how it goes, action is better than radio silence 4. Collaboration - no-one has all the answers, so finding others to collaborate with and not always the usual suspects. These may seem obvious, but some are easier said than done. Let me know what you think.

12.01.2022 How this year feels so far...

11.01.2022 Is your work holding you back from being the best version of yourself? Read my blog posted on Words of Bek. Thank you @Becky Beckstar Paroz

10.01.2022 Working with my editor we've been discussing the topic of confidence. It doesn't currently have its own chapter in my book. Is a lack of confidence holding you back from the career you want? Please comment and let me know. #career #confidence #potential

10.01.2022 Take time to appreciate others, their work and how they contribute to the whole system. #thankyou

07.01.2022 The future seems uncertain. But there is some good news. According to WEF, more jobs will be created than disrupted over the next 5 years. Given the extra support from government to retrain - it is a great time think about re-skilling to stay competitive in the job market or make a change. #futureofwork #skills #career

07.01.2022 Work Life - Balance or Harmony??? I don't believe in balance, life and work are not on opposing sides of equal weight. The new term being used is harmony. But in my experience, there is always something a little off key, even when the music of life is pretty good overall. I would love to know what you think. Please comment in the post, if you agree or disagree... AND If you can suggest a better term #worklife #worklifebalance #worklifeharmony See more

07.01.2022 So excited the first edition is here. Thank you Sandy Lowres for the opportunity to be a part of it.

06.01.2022 At my AHRI session for advice for Job Seekers, there was a lot of interest and request for specific advice. Most job seekers who attended fear increased competition in this current environment, lack confidence to compete and the majority were keen to either change their career or advance. Let me know if this is how you feel about changing jobs or careers? #career #careerchange #careergoals

02.01.2022 I have recently been coaching clients that have historically really struggled with interviews. With good preparation you minimise the need to think on your feet, as you are drawing from what you have already prepared. I'm pleased to say my latest client was offered the job on the same day as his interview. #career #interviewprep #jobcoaching

02.01.2022 You are so capable... Most people I work with or coach are so much more capable than they realise. The challenge is that they are just not aware of the capabilities, skills and specialist knowledge that they have that is valuable. Getting clear on your capabilities and skills will be a critical key to advancing or changing your career. ... If this is something you need help with, please reach out and let's talk.
