24.01.2022 Here is an awesome example of combining reduced obsolescence and IoT to create a new business model. Note that only one manufacturer has a 10,000 cycle machine.

24.01.2022 There are so many problems with recycling flexible plastics......lets hope that this innovation can be brought to market soon.

23.01.2022 There are some views that ALL nuclear is bad. Im not of that view and regard newer class reactors as a viable long-term, emission-free (and in some cases even waste-free) options for power. Of course, the market will decide whether storage options are a better route to take than nuclear generation. But we should remain clear headed.

23.01.2022 Some very sobering numbers here, but on the other hand, it can help focus efforts.

21.01.2022 Excited to be here in Sydney for the Risk Engineering and Project Controls Conference on the lovely Darling Harbour.

20.01.2022 This is almost like seeing in other dimensions.

20.01.2022 A massive breakthrough in smartphone design for circularity

19.01.2022 Good to see that the direction is not yet set on how future electric vehicles will look. And as we get better at evaluating cradle to grave resource implications, Im sure well see many more innovations to come.......as long as we can use social media during the trip.......

19.01.2022 This is clearly the right way to exist on a planet with finite resources, but history suggests that we would likely ensure our extinction first and then "look back" and say "Ah...."......

19.01.2022 So, another take on the issue of renewable power. The escalating costs of extraction of increasingly scarce (or sovereign owned) alkali metal and rare-earth metals for use in electricity storage will shape the penetration of battery technologies into urban and rural settings, especially in developing countries.

19.01.2022 This is definitely a novel approach with the biochar......pass through cow first......

18.01.2022 With better tracking of methane, companies could be made to account for their methane footprint. This could shine some light in some hidden areas.

18.01.2022 Here are some very good and interesting initiatives.

17.01.2022 ....and we cant even agree that the climate is changing. This is a lesson in sensible government intervention.

16.01.2022 At the outset I will admit that I am a fan of nuclear power "in principle". The only way implementation of these SMRs should be considered is as part of a cradle-to-grave stewardship of the reactor and the waste it produces. Furthermore, their implementation should be fully in line with new safety regulations with Major Hazard Facility provisions as a starting point. Operators of the facilities must have legally binding maintenance and safety testing regimes in place and the...se cannot be subverted by commercial pressures. The pathways to educate and train nuclear engineers, operators and administrators must also be considered. Its not as simple as IKEA (a nod to Laura Tingle for her quip on LNL the other night about calling these Hoggenblasters) and should be treated with the respect they deserve......BUT only after proving the case against renewables/storage combinations in an open and rational comparison.......thats where well come unstuck. 16.01.2022 For those of you who know me, youll know I have a passion for data, databases and making corporate life more productive. Over the years I have developed numerous database applications, some in MSAccess, some in mySQL and a several in SQL-Server. The last two have better security and will almost always be the preferred option for corporate IT departments. MSAccess rolls data storage/entry, querying and reporting into the one package and you can get even complex offerings se...t up reasonably quickly which can include the front-end you or your staff will use to interact with the database. MySQL and SQL-Server do an AWESOME job at storing and querying data, but you have to do quite a bit of work to produce something to interface with everyday users. But did you know that it is possible to achieve the rapid setup and interfacing benefits of Access with the data security of the other two systems (for up to a few dozen heavy users)? By setting up a link between the two, you can develop a system which gives your users a reasonably familiar Office feel and gives you peace of mind knowing your data is being looked after. So, dont always think that you cant use Access or that its bad in some way. It is a very powerful and flexible answer for the right applications. See more

14.01.2022 There are many perils in the whole data process.

11.01.2022 Havent posted in a while, but am still here. Very keen to see how the election pans out. Labor definitely putting more effort into environmental concerns.

11.01.2022 Ignoring the men vs women aspect of the data, perhaps more interesting is the things most worrying people is what our present government has least interest in tackling.

11.01.2022 Perhaps we can send these guys round to help educate the public on what goes into which bin......

10.01.2022 This is an interesting article. To my knowledge, apart from oil/gas field, CSS technologies have been far from successful. And here, in combination of biogas, there may yet be an unforeseen skewing of forces in the agricultural sector similar to that seen with ethanol.

10.01.2022 A fantastic and inspirational leader in circular economy thinking....

09.01.2022 Imagine trying to do something like this in Australia. I cant even formulate arguments against it.....(hydrogen / oxygen cylinders on the train....note that we have LPG tankers and tanks in cars)....but someone would no doubt have an issue.

09.01.2022 Very interesting result with an apparently large efficiency gain. It will spoil the visual effect of a collection of turbines all spinning in the same direction.

08.01.2022 Some positive baby steps to get to circularity with mobile phones......

08.01.2022 There have been a number of recent incidents where chemicals have been involved in fires (Melbourne) and large quantities of chemicals have been illegally stored (Adelaide). Some businesses try to do the right thing when storing and using chemicals, but there is much more to consider..... http://rdmsolutions.net.au/chemical-storage-safety-what-do/

06.01.2022 Honestly, I didnt know this was a thing. So here in Australia, could we do this on the outback highways with solar cells charging a few large batteries and they in turn feed the charging rails?

04.01.2022 The SA EPA acknowledges it needs to have greater transparency in relation to environmental incidents. COVID19 has made businesses focus on working away from the office and new processes to reduce disease spreading. But you cant afford to lose focus on disciplines in place BEFORE COVID19 that maintained a safe workplace. Dangerous Goods are called that for a reason. Dont lose focus on your chemical safety.

04.01.2022 Head over to my website to see the latest blog. I discuss how to get knowledge from data. And how to start making better decisions. https://rdmsolutions.net.au/how-superstition-and-knowledge/

03.01.2022 Hopefully this can product can receive development funding in Australia and not have to move internationally to succeed.

03.01.2022 Great insights from Kat Heinrich on food waste collections in some selected cities in Italy. Some pretty impressive collection rates.

03.01.2022 Cant wait for the WasteSA conference to come around (14th-15th Nov). Awesome line-up of speakers and so many reasons to be positive about the change happening in the industry

01.01.2022 Excellent. We need to keep driving these efficiencies.

01.01.2022 Ever been frustrated searching for something using Win10? File Explorer takes AGES to look for something and then doesnt find it?.....and you know its there!! Well I have stumbled across an AMAZINGLY fast file finder for Win10 ...and its free. Its called "Everything" http://www.voidtools.com/en-au/ . Youll never not find a file again.
