24.01.2022 It passed! Thank you so much to everyone that provided feedback and ideas already - I will make sure that all of your social media comments are collected and passed on. Thanks also to the people that contacted me and other councillors with amendments that passed - including the addition of signage in requested infrastructure, rehabilitation as well as prevention of unauthorised trails, and adding bushwalkers and the Wiradjuri people as stakeholders for proactive... consultation. I might need to get a mountain bike before March

24.01.2022 Check out this fabulous new initiative from Albury Conservation Company! Many of us are spending more time in the garden or out walking or cycling during COVID restrictions - please add your snaps of local wildlife to help support scientists and local community education

24.01.2022 2020 has been a really tough year for a lot of us. Thanks to Murray PHN, residents of Albury/Wodonga and north-east Vic can access FREE professional phone counselling 24/7, without a referral, for support with any of the following: Worry and Anxiety Anger Hopelessness and Depression... Drug and Alcohol Abuse Grief and Loss Isolation and Loneliness Relationship and Family Problems Suicidal Thoughts Wellbeing Work Stress See more

22.01.2022 Today is World Wetlands Day! Have you visited our local Wonga Wetlands yet? There's a beautiful walking trail with information about our local bird and aquatic life as well as Wiradjuri cultural heritage. All the info is at https://www.alburycity.nsw.gov.au//parks-an/wonga-wetlands... I was very lucky to get a kiss from the eastern long neck turtle that lives at the aquatic environment education centre!

22.01.2022 The new permit system is up at https://disasterassistance.service.nsw.gov.au//stepPersona If you live in Albury or Wodonga, you can still travel across the border for work, study, or health services.

21.01.2022 A year after abortion was legalised in NSW, access is still not equitable in regional NSW. It is unacceptable for anyone to have to pay $300 out of pocket or travel 250km for a basic medical service in one of the wealthiest countries in the world!

21.01.2022 To the communities of Albury, Wodonga and surrounds My heart goes out to all of you as we received the gut-wrenching news this week that the NSW Deputy Premier hopes that the border can be re-opened by CHRISTMAS, when we are waiting with bated breath for a re-opening any week now. Im hearing loud and clear that many of you are doing it really tough in this unique second lockdown and that this time around its been much more challenging. Back in April, the whole nation... was in this together to beat a deadly virus. I was so proud to watch us come together to support our families and neighbours through isolation. But now, our tough circumstances are harder to swallow as border communities face the injustice of being treated differently to the rest of our states. I absolutely support strong public health measures, but some of what we are being subjected to is simply not well justified. How can this be for the benefit of our health when essential workers in our hospitals and mental health services cant get to work? It took weeks of advocating for police at the border to start wearing masks and scanning our permits touch-free; for weeks they risked viral spread to our border communities and the rest of NSW as they rotate home across NSW every week. Our community has demonstrated such resilience over the past 12 months including through the bushfires. Im sure we can hang in there and get through this together but I promise to continue to use my networks and platform to push those in power to make well justified decisions that actually keep us healthy. Amanda

20.01.2022 I was very proud to launch PR I DE, a series of works by local LGBTQIA+ young people with AlburyCity Youth Mayor Eli Davern today. I'm so grateful that they can share their experiences of self-love and love for others as well as their experiences of discrimination and lack of representation with our broader community - these works will be on display for the next 6 months! If you can't make it down to Retro Lane Cafe, you can view the art here: https://www.alburycity.nsw.gov.au/whats-//pr-i-de/_nocache

18.01.2022 We're seeking your input as we develop a master plan to guide the future of our Cultural Precinct and QEII Square. Share with us what you love, what needs impr...ovement and what you’d like to see in the future at http://ow.ly/FPf450C4Cmy. Wmedia. Drone image taken under CASA regulations and REOC.

18.01.2022 Trust, community and a sense of common purpose is all that stands between the Australian public and a deadly second wave of the novel coronavirus. Splashing the names, faces and personal details of people who have defied border closures to carry COVID-19 from outbreak areas on the front page of Brisbane's Courier Mail under the incendiary headline "Enemies of the state" not only undermines this fragile balance, it poses a far greater risk to our collective health than the virus. Brilliant analysis by Albury based journalist and medical student Amy Coopes.

18.01.2022 Wishing my colleague Wodonga Mayor Anna Speedie all the best in her retirement from local government. Anna played a pivotal role in the Two Cities One Community partnership that will benefit Albury and Wodonga for generations to come, and has been a role model and mentor to many local women entering public life. Even though we haven't always agreed, she has consistently been a pleasure to work with and has represented her community with passion and professionalism.

17.01.2022 Check our the new paths at the waste management centre! This is next to the new Halve Waste education building and it glitters with our recycled glass

17.01.2022 Have you noticed these bumps appearing at CBD intersections and wondered what they are? These important accessibility improvements to our main street help people with vision impairment cross safely!

16.01.2022 If you live in Thurgoona - Thurgoona Community Action needs your help to put your favourite pathways and playgrounds on a map for new residents.

16.01.2022 Hope you are all keeping safe and warm on this chilly weekend - heres a Sunday chuckle if you needed one

16.01.2022 I just had my 4th COVID swab this morning after I woke up with a sore throat. I won't lie - the swab is uncomfortable, but it's so important that we all keep getting tested, even for mild symptoms, so that the public health unit has accurate data and can make good decisions to prevent any spread in our community. To make an appointment for testing in Albury ring 1800 831 099 or in Wodonga 6058 4444.

15.01.2022 Please please keep washing your hands and stay 1.5m away from others The Murrumbidgee Local Health District will be opening a pop-up clinic at Mirambeena Community Centre, 19 Martha Mews, Lavington from 9.30am tomorrow to ensure additional testing capacity is available. People can make an appointment via the Murrumbidgee COVID Hotline on 1800 831 099.

15.01.2022 AlburyCity's mountain bike strategy is finally being developed - this is your chance to have a detailed say about what you want to see for the future of the sport in Albury. Last time I posted about this the social media response was HUGE - make sure you click on the link so that your comments go directly to our consultant Common Ground Trails and staff!

15.01.2022 I'm really excited to be moving this notice of motion at tomorrow night's council meeting. Mountain biking is an increasingly popular sport in Albury-Wodonga, and its growth really took off during COVID restrictions. On one hand, this is fantastic! Families and young people are getting outdoors, getting active and enjoying our wonderful natural spaces.... Unfortunately, our facilities haven't kept pace with this growth which has led to people building their own trails which are environmentally destructive or even unsafe. Staff in various areas of council are aware of this and some action has been taken, for example the recent audit of trail conditions on Nail Can Hill and the inclusion of a pump track in our upcoming regional skate park. What we really need is a coordinated approach between different departments so that we can meet community expectations both in terms of MTB facilities and protection of our most sensitive environmental assets. Where do you think extra trails should be built? Have you noticed any unauthorised or unsafe trails? If you'd like to watch the debate tomorrow you'll find the live-stream here from 6pm: https://www.alburycity.nsw.gov.au//about-counc/live-stream

14.01.2022 Cuts to the JobKeeper payment are: 1. Cruel when families desperately need certainty 2. Plunging more Australians into poverty 3. Projected to rip $4,814,882 *per fortnight* from the Albury-Wodonga local economy!... Here's where I got the data for this: https://www.datawrapper.de/_/mrdg4/

14.01.2022 What a fantastic opportunity for young artist! For further information contact Tahni Froudist from the Flying Fruit Fly Circus on 0402 602 208.

13.01.2022 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's speech struck a chord with me and with women around the world because her experience of verbal abuse is sadly not unique. I have been called these exact words and far worse for having put my hand up to represent our community and challenge the status quo. The men who use this language are often 'respectable' and are never held to account (but I'm often told to 'grow a thicker skin'). To my fellow women and everyone bringing diversity to leadership: you are not alone. They abuse us because they feel threatened by the change that we represent. Thank you #AOC for calling it out.

13.01.2022 AlburyCity wants your views on the future of our riverside precincts! Our shared natural spaces are so precious. If, like me, you want to see them improved and maintained for public recreational use, and protected against commercial or residential development, then you need to let the council know at this link.

13.01.2022 After above-average rainfall in 2020, it's clear that the Baaka / Darling River and Menindee Lakes are in dire straights due to mismanagement. Regional communities desperately need water to be returned to our rivers from industrial scale corporate irrigators growing cotton and almonds for export.

12.01.2022 Border permit changes

12.01.2022 I've got my permit! Now I can go to work tomorrow! Get yours here (all residents within 50km of the border are eligible): https://disasterassistance.service.nsw.gov.au//stepPersona

11.01.2022 UPDATE: the previous border bubble will apply and border residents will be able to cross the border within the bubble for day to day life. I have just phoned Service NSW to ask what this means for border residents, and they couldn’t help me. There are emerging media reports of exemptions for border residents but I can’t see this from any credible sources yet - I will update you all as soon as I do.... It is egregious that lessons from the first border closure have not been learnt - border communities should have been front of mind and proactively communicated with.

11.01.2022 Albury friends - I'm very sad not to be able to support our local growers at the Albury Wodonga Farmers Market tomorrow. But there's something easy we can all do to help support them, which is to tag a Victorian friend who would love some delicious fresh fruit and veg, baked goods or preserves from a local business and should go to the Albury Wodonga Farmers Market tomorrow! Please hit up the comments too with any outlets on the Albury side of the river where we can stock up on local fare!

11.01.2022 Raising JobSeeker by $25 a week is not a raise when people are about to be plunged back to pre-pandemic support. The Morrison government is knowingly and deliberately leaving people who need our support in poverty. I saw the tangible difference the Coronavirus supplements made to my patients last year. So many people could finally afford quality food, or to pay for physiotherapy or hydrotherapy sessions, or simply didn't have to deal with the mental health pressure of having to choose between paying bills and filling their scripts. In one of the wealthiest and luckiest countries in the world, it is abhorrent that a single person should be forced to live in poverty. Now is the time to raise all social support payments above the poverty line. #80aday

11.01.2022 The NSW government continues to sell out Murray River communities AND the environment in favour of wealthy cotton irrigators in the Northern basin How much more will it take for regional communities to recognise that the Libs&Nats do not represent our interests.

10.01.2022 I'm so excited that AlburyCity's new Public Toilet Strategy was adopted at last night's council meeting. This means that we can get on with some long-awaited upgrades to our public toilets (including the ones at Noreuil Park!) and bring them up to modern accessibility standards. As public toilets are replaced or refurbished, they will become gender-neutral facilities which I strongly support for 3 reasons: easier to access for parents with young children or people w...ith a disability who need a carer present safer for women with new facilities that open directly to public space and have much better visibility safer and more inclusive for people who are transgender or non-binary If you'd like to know what this looks like, I'll post some of the proposed designs for new gender neutral facilities in the comments

09.01.2022 Albury residents can order from Albury Wodonga Farmers Market stalls this Saturday!

08.01.2022 Reports of inadequate quarantine for Victorian flight arrivals at Sydney airport are an absolute slap in the face for cross-border communities that have been torn apart by the road border closure. On top of this, NSW Police inadequate infection control protocols (no masks, and touching our documents!) risks further spread throughout NSW. Residents of cross border communities are making huge sacrifices every day for public health - Gladys Berejiklian must resolve these issues ASAP so that we haven't been put through this for nothing.

08.01.2022 A lot of people are tuning out of politics, as those in power get more and more out of touch with our experiences. Let's change that Join Citizen of the Year Rupinder Kaur For Wodonga Council in conversation with Senator Janet Rice (Vic) and Senator Mehreen Faruqi (NSW) and submit your questions on how we can change politics for the better!

08.01.2022 All dolled up to say #nuptothecup with Senator Mehreen Faruqi. 08.01.2022 Do you know a girl age 7-12 who is a future leader? Check out these free online empowerment sessions from Sisters who SHINE every Saturday!

06.01.2022 AlburyCitys Youth Council has voted to fly the Pride flag in the council chamber during their meetings! I was able to celebrate this commitment to inclusion and equality with Youth Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Eli Davern and Jack Kelso this arvo

06.01.2022 AlburyCity supporting our young people and future workforce with a great range of traineeships available!

05.01.2022 Today is the anniversary of the National Apology for the Stolen Generations. But sorry means you don't do it again. That our kids are still being taken away from our homes like this is a symptom of colonisation, and a national disgrace. Our kids deserve better.

05.01.2022 Thanks so much Jenny Leong, MP for Newtown, for a great chat today about the impacts of the border closure on our Albury-Wodonga community. Poor planning and inequitable resourcing during this pandemic are impacting the most vulnerable in all of our communities.

04.01.2022 Our cats are famous! (Seriously though - follow Gardens 4 Wildlife - Albury Wodonga for great practical tips to use whatever space youve got to support native species as well as keeping enclosed, happy and safe!)

03.01.2022 **Update: PERMITS ARE NOW AVAILABLE here: https://disasterassistance.service.nsw.gov.au//stepPersona NSW Police have indicated in the press conference today that there will be some leniency for people that must cross the border tomorrow - if you need to try to cross, make sure you bring evidence of your residential address and your reason for crossing. Please, please don't try to cross tomorrow for non-essential purposes as there may be large queues of traffic at the check-point and I'm worried about the impact this might have on people who need to cross urgently eg. for medical care.

02.01.2022 My friend and Wodonga Citizen of the Year 2019 Rupinder Kaur For Wodonga would make an outstanding local councillor and I'm so excited that she's standing in the October council election. The Greens rely on people-powered grassroots campaigning, but unfortunately this is a huge challenge in keeping with COVID-19 restrictions. This election is a postal election, and we would love to get a leaflet about Rupinder and her goals for council into every letterbox in Wodonga! To do ...this we need to raise just over $2,000. You can help by making a donation at this link - every bit counts :) https://contact-vic.greens.org.au/civi/contribute/transact

02.01.2022 #alwayswasalwayswillbe NAIDOC events look a little different this year to keep us all COVID-safe - please check out the works by local artists on display or join us on Facebook live for the flag lowering ceremony on Sunday.

01.01.2022 How deadly do these NBN boxes look!!? Albury city council turned photos of the Giilang wall of West Albury Community centre into vinyl wraps and covered up those big ugly green boxes. I know what I'd rather look at. I reckon they look marambangbilang!!!

01.01.2022 Today is Wear it Purple Day celebrating diversity and led by LGBTQIA+ young people - who tragically still face higher rates of mental illness, suicide and homelessness due to discrimination. (The medical grade masks and face shield dont come in purple but I did my best! )
