22.01.2022 I hope everybody is well in these challenging times I know alot of people are doing it tough so wanted to share an update from the farm to share some positive vibes. The last few months for us has been quiet we had no customers of course and i was off work as well but gave us the opportunity to knuckle down on the farm and complete alot of outstanding tasks. We got the last part of the property fenced to enable more rotational grazing and cleared alot of the old dead trees ...cut and left by other and cleared approx 2km of fence lines. This was slow laborious work all dragged and cut by hand by just the two of us and no heavy machinery. In between weather this took us almost 2 months We also got our first harvest from the bees (half the harvest in the pic) and got the second hive all ready for a split later this year. We also completed the second hot house to enable us to grow more vegies and got our winter crop in all of which were booming as of 2 weeks ago. Animals are all good but the feed has slowed down alot as it does in Tassie in winter so we stocked up on Hay as well. Dribble the cat is good he has just turned 6m old his growth is crazy and is going to be a huge boy when finished growing. 17.01.2022 As the summer veggies start to wind up this week we started preapring for winter, sowing soil and planting some early winter vegetables. Was also a good time to check on the hives. Actually our first year of growing veggies was a great success but our first honey season was not so good but we learnt alot and finally we have 6 full frames just waiting to be capped which we will prob leave for the bees. Also starting to get see the mushrooms now winter is coming.. 10.01.2022 Is good to be back home after a busy swing away working. Paddocks are well and the animals are happy. Sheep are really getting used to the bucket and some of the Heifers are really enjoying the pellet treats. One girl is still really timid though and will not come to us after 3m she is still a work in progress. Bronson is doing his thing and slowly letting us get closer he will be running with the girls in a couple more months. Bees are still slow due to this average weather but should see them pick up the pace with the warmer weather coming. 06.01.2022 Another new addition Today we welcomed our first bee hive. The honey bee is an amazing creatures and play a part in every aspect of the ecosystem. Not only do they provide us honey, they also serve to pollinate almost half of our food. 30 -40% of our food is made available because of pollination by honeybees. The population is also on the decline world wide so we want to do our bit and have plenty of space and fauna for them to work their magic. We purchased 2 second hand ...Flow hives, 1 assembled & 1 still in the box. The seller also gave us a colony and queen. 06.01.2022 Transformation .... What a difference 6 months makes. The old weed pit is now well and truly gone and in its place is a pretty decent vegie patch. Atm we have pumpkins, Zuchini, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, lettuce (been eating these for almost 2 months now) corn (really slow we planted too early but growing now) chinese radish, garlic, herbs around the edges and Capsicums and chillis which were planted out today. Oh forgot the small potatoe patch as well. Alot of people sa...y its too much work said we were mad making such a dramatic tree change..
