09.01.2022 The air we breathe. The health costs associated with air pollution following the 2019-20 bushfire season jumped nearly 70 per cent in South Australia to $35.84 million. Still, the state fared far better than NSW and VIC, where costs were estimated to exceed $1.07 billion and $493 million, respectively.
