25.01.2022 On Club day 29 March, Dr Ralph Schureck will give a talk about his amazing keyboard collection and concert programme. Quote from my music magazine ... "I decided 35 years ago to set up a collection of antique Western keyboard instruments ... originals or copies ... restored to concert condition. At an acquisition rate of 1 per year, the collection now numbers 35 instruments (!). These include harpsichords, virginals, fortepianos, organs, spinets etc" http://schureckcollection.org/

25.01.2022 On 28th Feb club day, Alison and Lokman will perform 2 of the 4 songs from Brahms "Regenlied" cycle; Dein blaues Auge (Your blue Eyes) and Regentroppen aus den Baumen (Raindrops falling from branches). Lokman will also play the 1st two movements from Mozarts Concerto no. 12 in A K 414.

19.01.2022 Hi all, Here is the finalised programme for this Sunday 26 July at the Amateur Performers Club, Kirribilli Neighbourhood Centre. The programme features two main performances. Steve Gilmore will present a talk on Virtuosic Music through the Ages, interspersed with performances of a number of examples of virtuosic music. ... Then Iona Luke will present a recital of a number of Chopins greatest and most-loved works. Ionas concert is in three parts. To refresh the palate between each part will be shorter pieces by our other performers. As we estimate the programme will go over two hours, there will be a short break following Steves talk, plus further refreshments after the concert. 17.01.2022 On Club day 26 April, Violinist Setsuko Oshima and pianist Anthony van den Broek will play the 1st movement of "From the native country" by Smetana. Alison Kimble-Fry accompanied by Lokman Merican will sing: Plaisir dAmour by Giovanni Martini... Anthony van den Broek will play Chopins Ballade No 1 in G minor. Brenda Hunting and Anthony van den Broek will play the duet Fantasie in F minor by Schubert.

16.01.2022 How many of you know or have played the Preludes of Faure or by the Russian composer Liadov? Who has played a Mazurka by someone other than Chopin? On Sunday I will be giving a lecture/recital entitled "Musical Gems of the Non-Virtuosic Piano Repertoire". In this lecture I will be exploring a range pieces that, while not the hardest or most difficult in the repertoire, are beautiful pieces well worth learning. This musical journey delves into pieces by famous composers that ...are not often played and works by composers that hardly get played.
