24.01.2022 Like many other parents in Queensland, we have just experienced a special deja vu 'first day' of school for our children as they finally returned to school after the mandated break. The last 5 weeks of home school have been incredibly rewarding, and I have enjoyed the family time immensely. However, balancing working from home with schooling from home wasn't easy, and there were times when work had to take a back seat. As for the AMBCQ, while we have been busy assisting membe...rs, governments and the community where we could, the state government imposed restrictions have made it impossible to organise anything. Now, with restrictions finally beginning to slowly ease, we are able to once again plan events. We have many members and friends to catch up with, so please watch this space - our first socially distanced social event will be coming up soon. 23.01.2022 During September, we attended the Lord Mayor of Brisbane's Citizenship Ceremony, coinciding with Australian Citizenship Day. It was one of the first major events we'd been to in a long time, and despite the social distancing and the fact that it was held in the Convention Centre rather than the more intimate City Hall, it was still a memorable evening. It was great to catch up with many friends that we haven't seen for a long time during the last few months, and also see the many happy new citizens who were warmly welcomed.

22.01.2022 We had a feeling this would be coming sometime. Each of us should do our best to ensure we play our part in limiting the spread of coronavirus. It is not just about ourselves, but our whole community, including the most vulnerable and at risk. https://www.skynews.com.au/details/_6141249433001

18.01.2022 To mark the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day which ended the Second World War, we have put together a video of our Commemoration and Dinner held on the 2nd September. Despite the declaration of surrender on the 15th August by the Japanese Emperor, it took a further two weeks for the signing of the surrender instrument on the 2nd September, and even longer for the surrender of various Japanese units in many places. For instance, the Japanese formally surrendered in Singapore on the... 12th September, in Kuala Lumpur on the 13th September, and in Kuantan on the 30th September. This is an abridged version of the evening accompanied by historic photographs of some of the events and characters of WWII, to capture the atmosphere and our deep sense of gratitude for those who served. Thank you once again to all those who attended the commemoration ceremony and the dinner after. Our thanks also to Lachie Munro for his magnificent bagpipes, to Riley Jia Xin Lim for recording the footage, to Wai Kiong Chan for his recital of Kipling's Mandalay, to Glenn Lorimer and Stefanie Lorimer for leading the singing of the Royal Anthem and the National Anthem, and also to Naomi for helping out with photographs during the ceremony. The sound of the bagpipes is captured very well, but the other sound is a little challenging due to traffic noise from Ann Street, so you may want to turn up the volume in some parts (but not at the beginning - it starts with the bagpipes!).
