Amen. Prayer in Time of Coronavirus: O Lord Jesus Christ, in Your loving care, You traveled through towns and villages curing every disease and illness. At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another. Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders. Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. O Master and Lord, our Savior, Healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow. Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. Слава Богу, сьогодн ми з вами мамо вльну державу, Свою мову, Незалежну Помсну Церкву. Це сьогодення частиною величного здобутку багатьох поколнь наших пращурв. ми не мамо жодного права ан морального, Ан духовного, ан будь-якого ншого хоч що-небудь з цього змарнувати, тим бльше втратити! 07.01.2022 St Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church today Nov 22, commemorated the 87th Anniversary of the Holodomor (Ukrainian genocide). Fr Wladimir Zaiko celebrated the liturgy and the Panakhyda. Afterwards the Ukrainian Association of Western Australia presented a short program and lunch. 04.01.2022 The three-barred Cross, as shown above is the most common shape used in the Orthodox Church whether as simple adornments, crucifixes, or in Icons which show the Cross, the three bars are usually present. The short, extra top bar represents the sign nailed to Christ’s Cross, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS (Luke 23:28; in John’s Gospel the sign reads: Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews) The lower, slanted, bar is the foot-rest of the crucifix. All crucifixes woul...d have had these, as no one could be suspended from a cross by nails alone. The cruel death of a crucifixion was not brought about through blood loss, but by lack of oxygen: exhausted, the man is no longer able to stand straight upon the foot-rest, the body sags, and air can no longer be drawn in. The foot-rest of Christ’s Cross is slanted because it is believed that in the final moments before Jesus gave up His spirit, His flesh spasmed and the foot-rest was kicked out of place. But in this true event there is also symbolism. The foot-rest points up, toward Heaven, on Christ’s right hand-side, and downward, to Hades, on Christ’s left. One of the Orthodox Church’s Friday prayers clearly explains the meaning: In the midst, between two thieves, was Your Cross found as the balance-beam of righteousness; For while one was led down to hell by the burden of his blaspheming, The other was lightened of his sins unto the knowledge of things divine. 02.01.2022 Sept 11 (Aug 29) marks the anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy, and also the beheading of the Forerunner of Christ, St. John the Baptist. Both events came through manipulation and destruction in order to achieve an evil end. However, these evil deeds are not the norm. Mankind is made in the image of God... the image of love. ... Let’s do our best to reflect that love, and positively influence those around us. Today is a STRICT FAST DAY... Traditionally people also avoid eating anything round like a head (think cabbage), using a knife, or eating off a plate (use a bowl). None of these observances are required for salvation... but they are just a small way to show affinity with St. John, and show him the respect and love he has more than earned from us through his selfless desire and endless efforts at directing people to God for their own eternal salvation.
