25.01.2022 Ambrose Treacy College
25.01.2022 Year 5 #ATCboys have been immersed in the goldfields of the 1800s and investigating the events that led to the Eureka Stockade, a pivotal moment in the formation of our country. This could be taught in the classroom; however, our wonderful teachers have created an experiential learning opportunity called The Gold Rush game. Students have been collecting money (pounds), ounces of gold and weighing up the advantages of banking or hiding their cash. The perils of life on the Vic...torian goldfields were many, including having to hold a mining licence, paying licence fees, understanding the cost of supplies and facing the harsh reality that not everyone can strike it rich in Ballarat! To keep boys on their toes, bushrangers have invaded classrooms and stolen from those who hid their money away and with the strain on finances, discontent has been brewing. We knew what was coming and today, a rebellion against the unfair conditions took place. It is being reported that Governor Cashmere has been forced to resign from his position and general law and order was replaced with anarchy as troops armed with water blasters stormed the diggers' flimsy stockade! What a fun afternoon! This hands-on, engaging learning helped students understand the events of history and allowed them to show tremendous creativity. The challenges presented in the Gold Rush game tested boys' problem solving and interpersonal skills as well as drawing a parallel to the historic events they have been investigating. Well done to all Year 5 miners! Another golden chapter in the #StoriesofATC See more
24.01.2022 At ATC we aim to prepare students to step beyond the confines of the classroom and shine a light out to the world as they live our motto, 'Signum Fidei.' In Religious Education classes we unpack the messages of the Gospel stories that can be difficult to fathom, to help students see that no good deed is too small to make a difference. Danika Ehlers, Head of Religious Education, said the stories of people like Edmund Rice, Mother Teresa or Mary MacKillop people who have influenced the world, resonate with our students and reinforce that they too can be conduits for change. Her blog today highlights how teaching and learning can form young people of action. Follow the link to her blog: https://www.atc.qld.edu.au/news/recontextualising-religion

22.01.2022 Making headlines, the leader of our 2020 graduates have had a leader who has remained positive,, focused and energised despite the hurdles placed in his way. Quest News have published a lovely story by Tom Perissinotto and his reflection on the 2020 school year. After all the disappointments of a COVID Year 12, I believe there was still plenty to be thankful for. While COVID-19 has had a significant impact on our year, part of my mindset was to avoid making a big deal of it. This is not the first year to have significant interruptions nor will it be the last." Follow the link to read the full article: https://www.couriermail.com.au//d8e819934ecbf731de8f009858
20.01.2022 The final Rugby match of the season saw the First XV up against John Paul College. The boys battled the first half to go into the break ahead of the JPC team 26-24. A quick pep talk challenged our players to dig deep and do the simple things right in attack and defence and so our boys took the field with a simple game plan keep the ball in hand. Some excellent play occurred with some standout performances from the whole team. Some of the best running lines of the 2020 sea...son enabled Ambrose Treacy College to get across the line several more times to seal the win with a final score of 57-24. A huge thanks goes to our parents, coaches and Sport and Activity Office for supporting our players this season in particular Mr Elliot Jackson, Director of Rugby. The off-season starts now and players are encouraged to get into the gym in order to build on our strength and conditioning. The most noticeable improvements this season was from players who are regulars in the gym. Well done to our boys for a great final game! See more
20.01.2022 "Dogfish, catfish, any this or that fish, please swim by my line...." The 1956 children's song by Shirley Abicair resonates with the passionate ATC anglers and typifies their attitude. Whether it's an eel or a bream, a catfish or river weeds, #ATCboys just love being by the water! Every week, avid and beginner fishermen hang out on the pontoon patiently waiting for a nibble and, when there's no fish biting, there's always the jet skis and boats cruising by to keep them enter...tained! The boys are most excited when a fish is on the hook and everyone celebrates with high fives and a photo... even if it's only a slimy eel that's been pulled in! The Michael Senior Pontoon is a unique feature of the school and is fast becoming a favourite spot for our fishermen to gather with their teachers. Thanks to Mr Martin, Mr Pickering, Mrs Madigan and Mrs Gillespie for sharing their top fishing tips. Wouldn't you have loved going fishing on a Friday arvo when you were at school? 19.01.2022 Year 7 were drawn to the lab this week as they investigated magnetic fields. Suspending a paperclip, different substances such as steel, paper, cardboard, aluminium foil, tin, wood and glass were passed between it and a magnet. #ATCboys discovered that the magnetic field passes through paper, cardboard, aluminium foil and tin but not through steel and iron. Gripping stuff!
19.01.2022 Year 4 creatives have captured the quirkiness of bird life with their hand coloured foam prints. Inspired by artist Cai Guo Qiang’s work Transient Landscape, these delightful, fun filled works of art will fly in to brighten your walls very soon! Clear more space mum!
17.01.2022 At ATC we are huge advocates for the promotion of mental health, or mental wealth as we like to call it! And with students like Hamilton, our commitment to student wellbeing will only grow. Hamilton spent a number of hours putting together packs for the RUOK Mental Health program. These packs will be sent out to 400 people promoting the importance of checking in with each other and raising awareness for mental health. What is one way to bank some wellbeing points? Do something good for someone else and be a true #signumfidei
17.01.2022 We are all ready for a rest to recharge the batteries and meet Term 4 head on, but not before the plethora of activities this week to round out Term 3! Chris commends the commitment and fortitude of students and staff over the past 10 weeks, and assures us that holidays are on the horizon! 16.01.2022 It was emotional rugby last Saturday as our Year 12 boys led their 1st XV team mates onto the field against West Moreton Anglican College, for their final home game. This season has been longer than ever before, but the boys have shown great resilience and determination. There was a great atmosphere on Jack Bowers Oval and the crowd could see that players were hungry for a win. Whilst the first half was fairly evenly contested, the second half showcased some of the best team rugby we've seen all season. #ATCmen attacked creatively by playing what was in front of them in connection with some great strategic play. The second half saw four unanswered tries and a sealed win for our Firsts! Well done gents. Good luck this weekend against John Paul College.
14.01.2022 Flights of fancy, furry friends and colourful creatures have made Mt Sion their home this term, watching over the shelves of books. Year 5 #ATCboys have studied the artwork and books by local graphic artist Lance Bulchin, Mechanica, Aquatica and Jurassica. Students completed a range of mechanically enhanced species drawings, steampunk animal drawings and collages. Our creative young engineers worked collaboratively to design and construct 3D #Mechanica inspired creatures with moving parts, decorative embellishment and real personality!
14.01.2022 The sun was shining for the brightest and most colourful event on the House calendar when students from the three schools competed in the Interhouse Cross Country Championships. Spectators lined the course to cheer on runners who were there to bring glory to their House and show who is fastest on the course. It wouldn't be a House Championship event without fancy dress, crazy hats, wigs, glasses and the fanfare of flags and banners! After a day of races, the Giants of Leinste...r House took the winner's trophy, followed closely by Connacht then Munster and Ulster. The photos showcase the festival of fitness, fun and fantastical outfits as everyone came out to celebrate the end of Term 3! Thank you to all our staff and students who made it a fitting end to a massive 10 weeks of learning, leading and serving and another special chapter in the #StoriesofATC See more
13.01.2022 College Captain Tom Perissinotto is an outstanding student and has just been named as one of Brisbanes most influential students! Tom has always been very active in fundraising for charities and supporting awareness initiatives and at the beginning of the year, he and a group of ATC students travelled to India as part of our Immersion Program. Here is his very touching recount of the experience and how it impacted on his life: https://www.atc.qld.edu.au//tom-perissinotto-most-influent
13.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day. It is a reminder to all Australians that every day is the day to ask, Are you OK? Its not always easy to keep the conversation going when someone says theyre not OK and so our happy ATC mascot, Eamonn and some #ATCboys were at the drop off zone this morning, offering some advice on this. Students held up signs reminding us all to take the time to listen to our friends and, if things are tough, to ask someone for help. The ATC Counselling team and Formation staff are always here to offer support. Reach out. #RUOK?
12.01.2022 Hoops, free throws and dribbles, the Colours House Basketball strengthens community spirit and that sense of House belonging. The competition was thrilling. Well done to Connacht House for alley-ooping and taking out the Grand Final with Munster Kings a close second. A big shout out to the volunteers, umpires and coaches assisting this event so that boys could have a fun and friendly competition.

11.01.2022 In preparation for their upcoming unit on Chemistry, Year 6 #ATCboys have been briefed on vital safety standards and procedures necessary for experiments. Demonstrating and modelling safe practices in the science lab ensures the welfare of students and staff which is why Mr Quinn was teaching students how to use PPE and showing them the location of the eye wash, safety shower, fire extinguisher and fire blanket. Now they are prepped and ready to be part of the Term 4 #StoriesofATC But wait.... enjoy your holiday first guys!
08.01.2022 Year 7s investigated the effect two forces have on the downward fall of a Robocopter. The downward force of gravity and the upward frictional force of air resistance play a key role in the fall time of the Robocopter. Students designed their Robocopter and thought of variables such as weight using paperclips to determine the time taken for the Robocopter to fall.

06.01.2022 ATCommendation It is fantastic to hear inspiring #storiesofATC students who demonstrate the values of Br Patrick Ambrose Treacy. Kindness, understanding and empathy are character traits that were shown by Year 8 student Henly recently as he helped a friend in need. His teacher Mrs Ehlers said _'Henly showed tremendous care and concern for one of his peers today in the Maths exam. During the exam a student became upset. Henley was very concerned asked after his friend's welfare, showing kindness and concern. Thank you for being so caring Henly.' #EREA #signumfidei #formingmenofcourage
06.01.2022 Service A visit to Emmanuel City Mission will leave you wanting to do more, such is the all-giving, all-accepting philosophy of Roby Curtis and the entire ECM team. See how #ATCboys are playing a part in this community service that helps Brisbane's homeless and most vulnerable. Will Term 4 mean that you will DO MORE Service hours? Read this for inspiration: https://www.atc.qld.edu.au/news/i-want-to-do-more #storiesofATC #EREA #signumfidei #formingmenofcourage
05.01.2022 As students are immersed in their exams, teachers are taking notice of the hard workers, the boys with positive attitudes to study and the ones who are striving for their personal best. Last week, Mrs Cuddihy commended Year 11 student Thomas on his pleasing efforts in his recent English assessment. She said "Thomas approached every phase of the task with a willingness to do his best. This is a reflection of the mature and impressive young man that he is. Well done Thomas!" It seems like Thomas, along with many dedicated #ATCboys, will enjoy a well deserved holiday.
04.01.2022 Making Service a Focus We recognise that all #ATCboys bring unique skills and talents to our school. Through our Service Program we encourage students to utilise these skills when Serving others. Over the last couple of months Year 7 student Jack, has taken an interest in photography, taking many photos of the Brisbane and Gold Coast landscapes. He plans to use the photos to create gift cards for nursing home residents. Jack is eager to wish the residents well, and hopes that the cards along with his hand-made crossword and puzzle books, will put a smile on their face. He beautifully captures (pun intended) how our ATC students put their own skills to good use in the name of Service. #storiesofATC #signumfidei #formingmenofcourage
03.01.2022 The Year 12s weekly Feel Good Friday event brought staff and students together for a Touch Football competition. Some fit and energetic types from the Senior School took the field against a team of brave staff members. #ATCboys showed great skill with a bold on-field presence but in the end, youth was not to their advantage as the mighty ATC Staff team took the game into overtime. With some sharp footwork, fancy ball skills, and awesome teamwork combined with the blistering pace of Mr DRoza, Team Staff sealed the win with a last-minute try. The positive energy, good humour and cheering spectators created a great atmosphere and we thank our Seniors for their sportsmanship, organisation, leadership and good grace in defeat! Needless to say there were some smug faces in the staffroom that afternoon!
03.01.2022 Year 6 #ATCboys were taken to the Police Station yesterday .... to check up on our local officers who serve our community. Students delivered morning tea and coffee to Indooroopilly Station and thanked staff for keeping the #ATCommunity safe. Our main mission of the visit was to check in with the Officers and ask R U OK? A high percentage of police and their families experience stress due to the nature of their work. The police kindly shared tips on ways for children to keep safe and reminded them to be vigilant when online. For further information on R U OK? Day visit: https://www.ruok.org.au
03.01.2022 ATCommendation Little Leo in Year 4 has made a lasting impression on his teacher Mr Gordon and it prompted this sincere commendation last week: 'Over the year, Leo has consistently displayed responsible and respectful behaviour. He always participates in activities with great enthusiasm and his efforts have not gone unnoticed. Thank you Leo for being an outstanding #ATCboy' #WeAreATC
02.01.2022 ATConnect Mr Behan bids farewell to our Seniors in his blog today and reflects on how their lives changed so drastically in 2020. They were forced to change habits, forced to learn in new ways, forced to let go of milestone events and forced to slow down. Paddy praises their adaptability, resilience and patience and believes, despite the challenges faced this year, #ATCmen will be okay. 02.01.2022 Gardening with the 'Green Team' is more than just growing veggies. We have developed an outdoor learning space away from the regular classroom. Students take a level of responsibility in maintaining the garden beds and developing an understanding of the process of planting, cultivating, and caring for plants. Students in Years 4 to 6 enjoyed being outdoors, digging in the dirt and watching their hard work flourish. They gardened, weeded, watered and pruned in the mornings, be...fore school and used their lunchtimes to check on their blossoming garden. The Green Teams mission is to continue to energise and inspire other members of the community to utilise, enjoy and participate in this ever-changing space. We are looking forward to receiving our new Bee Hive in October from Cr James Mackay and adding another layer to our wonderful ecosystem at ATC and the #StoriesofATC See more
01.01.2022 ATC Science Staff visit Centre for Quantum Dynamics at Griffith University, Nathan Campus Our Head of Senior Science Mr Ben Rerden, Biology Teacher Ms Kristy Freer and Mr Greg Quinn accepted an invitation to visit Professor Robert Sang at his Laser Laboratory in the Centre for Quantum Dynamics at Griffith University Nathan. Professor Robert Sang is the Dean Academic of the Griffith Sciences Group. Professor Sang is an experimental quantum physicist who co-founded the Attos...econd Science Group at Griffith University. His current research involves the applications of ultra-short laser pulses of light to the experimental observation of the dynamics of electrons in atoms and molecules which occurs at the time scale of attoseconds (one attosecond is 11018 of a second). The outcomes of this research are diverse and ranges from: the development of new coherent x-ray sources, the testing of fundamental quantum theories, to applications in structure determination of complex molecules. Mind boggling as the one-hour tour and discussion was, the Professor made every effort to bring some world first atomic and laser concepts down to the level of the Undergraduate and High school Physics. As the tour finished, he reflected that an important responsibility of Queensland High schools is to encourage capable and determined students to study the Specialist Maths course as well as the new Maths Methods course. His idea paraphrased the quote from Roy Slaven and HG that too much Maths is never enough. From his 20 years at Griffith University, he has witnessed the exciting career prospects for students who have contributed to the development of his Laser laboratory and then progressed onto other industries that eagerly sought the skills that his students had acquired. Are you studying Physics in 2021? Speak to Mr Rerden if you want more information!
