25.01.2022 Rhonda Gray Art School The Nature Palette 24 October 17 November 2019 Opens 11.30am Saturday 2 November... Art student exhibitions are always exciting, presenting the viewer with a visual smorgasboard of styles, mediums and interpretations of a theme, this year it is flora and fauna. Added to this is the requirement that students draw or paint their image on a palette (also making for an interesting couple of hours for those setting up the exhibition)! The Nature Palette has presented students with quite a few design difficulties as they adjusted their composition around the odd shape of a painters palette. Established in 2012 the Rhonda Gray Art School now has over 60 students attending weekly classes and workshops. Painting, drawing and mixed media are taught in a sunlit studio surrounded by lots of chatter, energy and enthusiasm encouraging learning and the free exchange of ideas and techniques. Both beginners and advanced students are catered for with beginners given the confidence to improve and progress and the advanced students challenged with more difficult assignments. Students, family and friends are all looking forward to the opening of The Nature Palette at 11am on Saturday, 2 November at Amegilla Gallery, Bruthen. It should be an amazing exhibition.

21.01.2022 Rhonda Gray Art School Think Big 29 October 22 November 2020 It’s always good to hear positive comments about an exhibition and from the sound of things visitors are thoroughly enjoying this year’s student exhibition Think Big.... The student’s brief to use 10x8cm boards, to use colours within the range of a given paint swatch and to choose a subject that started with the letter ‘t’ certainly gave them a challenge. The variety of these miniature artworks demonstrates the range of media that the students explore in class during the year. Graphite, watercolour, pen and ink, oils, acrylics, colour pencil and mixed media all add up to create a diverse and interesting exhibition. See more

Maintaining contact and continuing their passion for art was paramount for students in this year full of disruptions. Electronic media proved to be effective and their endeavours are here on the wall in a wonder...fully diverse exhibition of ‘miniatures’. Students participating in Think Big were challenged to create a mini artwork on a tile 10x8cm with a subject beginning with the letter 't'. In addition each student was given a colour swatch and the majority of the work had to match that colour. Think Big showcases the huge range of styles and techniques students of Rhonda Gray Art School explore while developing their painting and drawing skills. The exhibition continues until 22 November. 08.01.2022 BACK TO NORMAL HOURS SOON Due to the bush fires and the intermittent evacuations that have affected Bruthen over the last few weeks (and now other unforeseen circumstances) Amegilla has not been open. Hopefully things will return to some sort of normality next week when the gallery reopens on Thursday 16 January. Apologies for any inconvenience.

07.01.2022 Helen Crossley fluid ... a connection to the elements 29 Aug 22 Sept 2019 A large crowd helped Helen Crossley celebrate the opening of her exhibition fluid ... a connection to the elements last Saturday at Amegilla Gallery.... Helens images of the Lakes and waterways highlight the beautiful region in which we are privileged to live. Her pastels capture the expanse of sky and water. They also convey that wonderful sense of continuous movement in the water while picking up the colours from the sky and the reflections of clouds. Congratulations, Helen, its a lovely body of work. Unfortunately this years Bruthen Blues and Arts Festival has had to be cancelled (see their Facebook) so Amegilla will not be presenting the Blue - bands, bees and other things cd exhibition as previously advertised. I would also like to thank everyone that has helped our Bruthen community over this very trying time. There are so many volunteers and others that assist in so many roles but not necessarily seen. A very grateful thanks to you all. Eileen

03.01.2022 Visitors are returning ..... It’s great to see some movement along the highway through Bruthen and to see some activity in the gardens again after such a quiet time these last 6 months. There has been lots of catching up as artists bring in new work that has been created during their lockdown ‘vacation’. And again, the diversity is amazing. The only word to describe Rhonda Albrecht’s Artist’s Journal is exquisite. The cover is silk paper with dried flowers... embedded and the pages are heavy watercolour paper. It would be a joy to work in this book just to hold it is special. Paul Gibbs has once more excelled with his segmented bowl. It is made in fabricated sections and turned from 237 segments of Stringy Bark, Jarrah, Silvertop, Kwila and Carbonised Poplar. Made from cream silk and machine stitched over and over until the material is rigid the vessels by Marg Crocker are quite unique. And like all Marg’s artwork finished beautifully. Andrea McKey is well-known for her glass work, including brooches and platters. On this rather quirky piece, Home’, she has made a number of small glass embellishments to create a miniature diorama on a vintage shoe brush. It's great to be surrounded again by such brilliant work. See more

03.01.2022 Managing to maintain their passion for drawing and painting via electronic media during the Covid19 lockdown students of Rhonda Gray Art School are especially pleased to be able to present their annual exhibition opening at Amegilla Gallery, Bruthen, on Thursday, 29 October 2020. This year students were challenged to create a work on a 15x15cm board, in any media, with a subject starting with the letter ‘T’. Think Big showcases the huge range of styles and techniques students explore while developing their painting and drawing skills. Unfortunately due to the restrictions there will be no opening function to what is going to be a wonderful diverse exhibition of ‘miniatures’ but no doubt students will still celebrate their tiny masterpieces in Think Big. The exhibition continues until 22 November.

03.01.2022 More work coming in ........ It’s great to see Di Deppeler’s Lockdown Boxes selling so well. Visitors are fascinated by each individual box and many have spent quite some time investigating all of them. In sharp contrast to Rhonda Albrecht’s Artist’s Journal are some most unusual books brought in by Debbie Kennedy. These books, all with heavy watercolour paper but some books have stained paper and others plain paper, are Coptic bound and have tin covers. Som...e of the tin has been burnt giving it an intriguing marbled appearance; other covers have that rich red colour of rust; yet other covers have an almost silver colour. Jenny Marsden has brought in some jewellery made with polymer clay. These pieces are casual, colourful and would be fun to wear. Unfortunately Gordon Bain had to cancel his planned exhibition here at Amegilla due to Covid19 but he has sent over 3 new paintings, one of which is River Gums. Gordon achieves so much depth in his work, building it up by layering, rubbing back then working again into the image. Rhonda Gray’s versatility never ceases to amaze. In contrast to her last paintings using acrylic and ink, this new work includes works in acrylic or oil paint on canvas, a watercolour and some small mounted works on canvas paper that are almost jewell-like. Margaret Lomas also brought in some new watercolours. Regrettably it is extremely difficult to photograph paintings behind glass but sufficient to say that Margaret’s skill with watercolour paint is incredible. See more
