25.01.2022 A flash back to the end of November 2017 as #MarriageEquality passed through the Senate on its way to becoming Law Magda and Penny summed it up well! And now after so much hard work by so many, we see all the happy couples marrying

24.01.2022 Two years ago Australia said YES. Thank you to everyone who made it possible! And our biggest congratulations to all the couples who have been able to marry

23.01.2022 Paula and Bec are one of the couples featured on the historic marriage equality stamp. They first met when a mutual friend predicted their compatibility, and arranged a surprise dinner for them both. The dinner was coincidentally, right after a marriage equality rally. Paula attended every single rally for 10 years. On the emotion charged day of the YES result, Paula and Bec celebrated at the Victorian State Library. They share some of their reflections here. "To us the YES v...ote symbolised recognition that LGBTQI+ people matter. It is hope for LBGT youth, and finally acceptance for older people in the community who have battled with stigma and harassment. There is still a long way to go for many varieties of equality, however were proud of how far weve come. From a postal vote that fuelled quite a lot of hate, to a postal stamp created out of love! 22.01.2022 Can you believe it is nearly three years since Australia voted YES and Marriage Equality became law? To celebrate, City of Sydney has just proposed a new 90-metre Rainbow Path for the recently named Equality Green It is great to see the colourful and creative ways that communities across the country continue to commemorate this historic moment and the people-powered campaign for equality : Damian Shaw, CoS

21.01.2022 Weve been overwhelmed with joy this week as couples and proud parents have shared cherished wedding photos in celebration of the marriage equality anniversary We want to continue to share the love through some personal stories that capture the essence of what marriage equality was really always about -- fairness, equality and love ... Our first story is from Julian and Kym. Julian, an advertising executive met Kym, a Doctor, while visiting Adelaide in 1983. They hit it off straight away, with much in common. They loved each other from the start and the rest is history! They enjoy dinners with friends and travelling the world together. And they absolutely adore their Abyssinian cat Luca who gets spoilt big time. Like many same-sex couples, Julian and Kym had to wait for decades for the chance to marry. After 36 years together, they were over the moon that it finally passed into law and they tied the knot in 2018. Their reflections: "Finally we have marriage equality and guess what? The world did not end and life goes on and everyone is a winner!" We couldnt agree more Congratulations to this wonderful couple.

19.01.2022 David Brine and Nick Higgins are the second couple featuring on the newly available marriage equality stamp. Heres a little of their story: "We got engaged on our 10th anniversary in May 2016 but knew at the time it couldnt become reality in Australia. This drove us to get involved in the campaign for marriage equality." Both David and Nick encouraged conversations about equality in their workplaces and broader community. David also played a role in activating corporate su...pporters through workplace pride networks. On 14 April 2019, the Brine and Higgins families came together in Sydney proudly to (finally) witness a wedding. The happy couple were wed at Athol Hall, Sydney in front of over 100 friends and family.

18.01.2022 The day we achieved marriage equality was a huge step forward for LGBTIQ rights in Australia. Yet, the current proposed Religious Discrimination Bill threatens to take us backwards. This Mardi Gras season, a panel of some amazing equality champions and legal experts have convened to discuss the current threats to LGBTIQ rights. Moderated by esteemed lawyer and advocate Anna Brown, and featuring Alex Greenwich MP (Member for Sydney, co-chair of Australian Marriage Equality), D...r. Kerryn Phelps AM (Medical Doctor who was elected to Federal Parliament), Teddy Cook (expert on Trans and Gender Diverse health and rights), Reverend Dale Yardy (LGBTIQ-inclusive pastor at MCC Church) and Ghassan Kassisieh (Equality Australias Legal Director), the panel spoke about the proposed Bill and what equality supporters can do to protect hard fought gains. 18.01.2022 Happy Valentines Day Whether youre hitched or happily single love and kindness unites us all. Have a love-filled weekend everyone!

17.01.2022 This time two years ago, the country voted for equality in a landslide result across all Australian States and Territories. Yesterday, the Federal Government released a second draft Religious Discrimination Bill that is a significant threat to the legacy of marriage equality and our existing anti-discrimination laws. This law would enshrine new forms of discrimination against everyday Australians including women, LGBTIQ people and people with a disability. It is a huge depart...ure from the protections we take for granted and will affect access to health care and impinge on rights at work. Please stay tuned as we share more information in the coming days. You can help by: (1) Telling your friends and family about the risks in the draft Bill (2) Urgently contacting your Federal MP to record your concerns (3) Getting updates from Equality Australia who are advocating to protect our hard-won rights: https://equalityaustralia.org.au/new-draft-rdb/

17.01.2022 It's nearly two years since marriage equality became law. This week we are reflecting on this profound social change and the positive message that marriage equality will continue to send to generations of LGBTIQ+ people -- that we are all equal and deserving of the same dignity and respect Newlyweds, Shenae and Laura Watkins, share some of their personal journey on the road to equality ... "It feels like a lifetime ago that we met. Laura wasn't yet 'out' to any of her family and friends and I still felt like I needed to explain my sexuality to those who questioned it. Fast forward a couple of years and we were lucky to have got engaged in the year that marriage equality passed. It felt surreal that in 2017, with what seemed like so much support from around us, that our country continued to say that we were not equal. On December 7th, 2017 the relief we felt was immense so we can only imagine the feeling for those who had been waiting their whole lives. The journey to our wedding day was met with the support and joy of so many wonderful vendors, who were all elated to be helping with another same-sex marriage. As it turned out, they too had been waiting for marriage equality to finally come. On the 31st of August 2019 we had the day of our dreams surrounded by so much love from family and friends."

16.01.2022 We have achieved incredible things when weve stood together for equality. While we celebrate these gains, we also need to ensure that we dont go backwards. Lets urgently remind our parliamentarians that we are a country that believes in fairness and equality and we dont want laws that introduce new forms of discrimination. Watch and take action today by writing to your Federal MP here: https://equalityaustralia.org.au/no-to-discrimination/

15.01.2022 We are excited to share with you this very special event by Equality Australia in support of LGBTIQ+ artists and performers whose work has been impacted by COVID-19. Queer Love In is an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate the talent and creativity of the LGBTIQ+ community and allies whilst we keep doing our bit to flatten the curve.

12.01.2022 Wishing you and your loved ones a happy, healthy and fulfilling 2020! As 2019 draws to a close, heres one more feel good moment from newlyweds, Mel and Jo Their story is a reminder of all the joy that marriage equality continues to bring to peoples lives. Thank you for your part in making countless dreams a reality. ********... "We met about 6 years ago. Family life came easy to us, my boys fell in love with Jo immediately and the transition to having two mums has been a fun and beautiful one. We were driving to work when the marriage equality result was announced. We remember feeling so relieved and proud. Not just for us, but for our friends and especially our aunties who were out at a time when being gay was not so accepted. We had the most amazing wedding day. Our boys walked us both down the aisle and delivered the most beautiful speeches at the reception. We were surrounded by the people that mean the most to us and we had some of the best vendors Perth has to offer. We are still on such a high!"

12.01.2022 TWO YEARS ago today! Marriage Equality passed into law in Australia After a marathon parliamentary sitting, and a decades long campaign by so many, our country became a fairer and more equal place. This moment on the floor of Parliament captures the elation, relief and happiness. Feelings that echoed across the nation Thank you to all who campaigned for love, fairness and equality. It was a long road, but we can all be so proud of achieving something truly remarkable

12.01.2022 Today a very special commemorative stamp is being launched by Australia Post! The stamp celebrates the achievement of Marriage Equality in Australia and features two couples at the heartfelt moment of the historic YES vote announcement in 2017. Like so many people across the country, couples Rebecca & Paula and David & Nick, who are pictured on the stamp, contributed to the marriage equality victory through their own activism and by generously sharing their stories. We will be taking a look at their stories and what marriage equality has meant to them in our next few posts.

09.01.2022 Our next couple is Adrian and Craig. In 2018, surrounded by family and close friends, they were married at a gorgeous country estate in Daylesford, Victoria. They look back fondly on the wonderful speeches by their parents. The utter happiness and warmth on this special day is captured in these stunning images It is a testament to why marriage equality is so important in bringing friends and families together to celebrate and recognise deep personal commitments.

08.01.2022 Some beautiful moments being shared in Costa Rica as the first couples tie the knot Alexandra and Daritza were legally married eight minutes after midnight. Their celebrant, Ana Cecilia captured the gravity of the moment in her speech: You have begun in law what has existed in love. We celebrate and honour this journey that you have made together as life companions in hope of a day like today: historic for you two and for Costa Rica.

Leading the country and sending an important message to the world that "gay conversion therapy" is a harmful and discredited practice that should be illegal. This law is a great first step towards protecting LGBT+ young people. Thank you to all the amazing advocates who are working to ensure that LGBT+ people are free to be themselves
