23.01.2022 In capitalism, whether in Australia or globally, the story is pretty much the same. Its workers, their families and communities that are hit hardest. This is why we need to organise and fight back

22.01.2022 The 40 Ships off the coast wasn’t true The medical supplies wasn’t true The offers put forward by Patrick in the Fair Work Commission today just weren’t real It’s a real attack on workers and it’s a disgrace

20.01.2022 David Littleproud to jobless Australians: "have a crack" at picking fruit and vegetables. Carolyn Lake in response: Dude. I am f****** happy to pick fruit.... 1) The jobs still really aren't there. 2) Who will pay my rent while I'm out on a farm? Or pay to break my lease and store my stuff? 3) Where do I live when doing this? (And is it safe?) And how much of my wage is taken for it? 4) After the six week season is over, where do I go? 5) Am I given assistance to relocate to a new regional town and season? Or given help to pay a bond back home? 6) Do I try and trade in my 2011 hatchback for a 20 year old van I could sleep in the back of? And keep all my possessions in? 7) These aren't rhetorical questions. The job market is what it is. And it's f****** scary and stressful. We're not unwilling to work. Just. How? 8) And this all assumes we're chill with taking vulnerable people away from their homes, community, and healthcare, to go work on isolated farms with little protection from exploitation and abuse. 9) but, HOMES, COMMUNITY, and HEALTHCARE. That's what you're asking someone to leave to pick fruit for six weeks. The safety and security of homes (HOME), support networks, and access to health care. 10) Oh, you're poor (and there are no jobs!), but you take solace in the love of a pet and some regular family friend dinners? NO MORE. Out to the farm you go and leave behind ... everything that makes this bearable. 11) Our agricultural industry has been run on slave labour from the start. From blackbirding in the 19C to this. 77 Tongans living in a five bedroom house to pick fruit. And being charged for it twitter.com/CarolynLake/st Would your long term unemployment stress be relieved by sharing a room with 14 other people? Would that help your (likely inevitable) mental health situation? But, you got a job, right? 400km from home but it's a A Job! 19.01.2022 A wrongful death lawsuit at a Tyson Foods pork processing facility in Waterloo, USA, has revealed Management placed bets on how many workers at the factory woul...d test positive for COVID 19. Five workers have died, over 1000 have contracted the virus so far. Supervisors were directed to ignore COVID-19 symptoms, telling workers to show up even if they were sick. Management even created a $500 bonus for employees who attended all their shifts over three months, a policy created purposefully to encourage sick workers to come in. The lawsuit alleges that Tyson required employees to work long hours in cramped conditions without appropriate PPE despite the rapid spread of COVID-19 throughout the facility. In the midst of the Waterloo sites outbreak, the Plant Manager organised a cash-buy-in, winner takes all betting pool for supervisors to bet on how many workers would become sick. 16.01.2022 It's very disappointing to see Patrick reject the offer of a reasonable and fair deal from the Maritime Union of Australia that would have brought this dispute to an immediate end. Patrick seem more interested in using the cover of COVID to strip away workers' rights and job security.

14.01.2022 Coles has refused to negotiate a living wage. They won't even come to the table. Now they have announced a paltry 1.75% wage increase after record multi-billion... dollar profits. They refuse to negotiate while throwing us scraps. Fight back with the only union fighting for Coles workers - that's RAFFWU! www.raffwu.org.au/coles #fighbackwithRAFFWU #fightforalivingwage #fightfor25

10.01.2022 Comrades, what’s your thoughts on this proposal? Do you think it is in the interests of the working class to weaken the BOOT (and potentially have workers paid ...less than the award and not receive penalty rates) in exchange for fast tracking union negotiated EBAs? https://www.afr.com//porter-working-on-compromise-as-ir-ta The BCA-ACTU proposal to fast-track union agreements was in return for softening requirements around the better-off overall test, which requires each individual employee to be better off than the minimum and has held up many major employer agreements.

09.01.2022 On September 15 the AMIEU met with Minister for Agriculture, David Littleproud, to discuss the plight of workers in our Industry. 07.01.2022 Learning how a bonus scheme killed workers. Pike River Miners were paid a bonus to work faster eg skip dusting the mine or evac when suspecting a methane leak. ...The boss knew there was risk of fatality & put the workers at risk anyway... quicker coal = mega profit for shareholders & bigger Exec bonus. #fishRotsFromTheHead The Royal Commission said Unions have a critical role to play. Elect HSRs now! Pictured is the second exit .. imagine everyone getting on that to escape. They died. 19/11/2010 Rest In Power. See more

06.01.2022 From Monday, September 28, both JobKeeper and JobSeeker subsidies will be slashed. Roughly 8.2 million Australians are currently receiving JobSeeker or Jobkeep...er. JobKeeper will be cut from $1100 a fortnight to $800. JobSeeker will be cut from $1500 a fortnight to $1200 for Full-Time workers and $750 for Part-Time workers (under 20 hours a week before the pandemic). With 30% of Experts are predicting the JobKeeper cut to create a large spike in business failures, putting more Australians out of work. The cut to JobSeeker means those who are struggling most to pay their bills and provide for their families will face an even more difficult time in the months ahead.

04.01.2022 New Australian Standard for loading ramps published, but details at a cost After a year of development Standards Australia has finalised and published the first... Australian Standard for Livestock loading/unloading ramps and forcing pens. It says the 37-page document provides guidance on the safe design and practices for the 85,000 or so agricultural businesses across Australia that use loading ramps, according to NFF statistics. However to see the detail set out in the Australian Standard it appears livestock producers and others in the supply chain will have to pay a minimum fee of $125 to download the full document from the Standards Australia website. 03.01.2022 Corporate executives are taking JobKeeper and withdrawing it into their own pockets. Accent Group, which owns Dr. Martens and Athlete's Foot, received $21.6 mil...lion in JobKeeper and paid $1.28 million to straight to CEO Daniel Agostinelli -- on top of his base salary of over $3 million. Qube Holdings, a logistics company, got $19.4 million. Then they paid $1.18 million to CEO Maurice James and cashed out a whooping $43 million to shareholders. IDP Education received $4 million of your tax dollars, then paid $600,000 as a bonus to CEO Andrew Barkla. Doubt he's been feeling the pinch lately though -- last year he was paid $37 million. JobKeeper subsidies aren't meant to be an ATM for the big end of town. They're meant to keep the bills paid for families doing it tough. Scott Morrison left corporate Australia a handy set of loopholes and the fat cats are making a killing off it.
