We invite you to join us to review MIESF’s performance for the 2019/20 financial year.... Date: Wednesday 16 December 2020 Time: 6.00 p.m. 7.15 p.m. (AEST) To register please email [email protected] with your name and member number. 24.01.2022 Great annual result for MIESF. The AMIEU Super fund! It’s a timely reminder of how important Super is. With so many accessing their Super savings early under the Federal governments C-19 rules and now the Libs looking at further deferring the Super increase (already long delayed) workers are going to need to fight to maintain the integrity of our Super system!

22.01.2022 Queensland has one of the cheapest CTP schemes in the country, but some insurance companies want to change that. They want a no-fault scheme, which will drive e...veryones CTP costs up and provide less compensation for victims of road accidents. The only people who will benefit are insurance companies. 21.01.2022 Unions are fighting to protect the jobs, wages and rights of every worker in Queensland and Australia. We need fairer and better rights at work. 20.01.2022 Scott Morrisons Union Busting Bill is extreme, unnecessary, and will make it harder for workers to win pay rises and protect their jobs.

19.01.2022 With the recent cases in Pacific Meats and JBS prove workers in abattoirs are at serious risk. Workers at Ingham's Chicken in states across Australia, from both... 18.01.2022 PRIMO WORKERS TAKE 4 HOUR STOPPAGE The company has shut down negotiations after the workers, for the third time, voted down a substandard offer by the company. The workers have not had any wage increase since April 2018. As reported earlier the company delayed negotiations and then refused any back pay claiming its JBS policy not to back pay. The companys new offer gave with one hand and took with the other. Off the table came a 2% pay increase on a yes vote the pay in...crease only to be given once the Agreement is ratified at the Fair Work Commission. With Agreements taking up to six (6) months to be ratified workers have a long wait for any pay rise. It would more than likely mean that workers will miss a full year of any wage increase. A further 2% increase in April 2020 and a $290 gift card was all that was offered by the company. Workers were due a pay rise in April 2019. Factoring in a 2% pay increase (and not the 3% the workers are asking) its estimated not receiving the April 2019 pay rise will cost employees $700 -$800 (not including super). Workers say that the parent company (JBS) is announcing record profits and at the same time offering record low wage increases to their hard-working employees - the very ones who are generating those profits. The workers say they are not asking for a lot. The last three minimum wage adjustments have been 3%, 3.4% and 3.5%. Many workers are now only $0.12 above Award rates and they could end up going backwards. Members are telling the Union if they cant get a fair pay increase when the company is reporting record profits when will they ever get one? The AMIEU urges the company to be fair and reopen negotiations. Slamming the door shut and refusing to negotiate is not going to bring about an amicable solution.

16.01.2022 While we couldn't celebrate Labour Day together this year the AMIEU Qld Branch is delighted to share with our members that our April 2020 edition of The Meatworker has won a Labour Day Award!

16.01.2022 An important reminder that EVERY working condition Australian workers enjoy has a foundation in union!

15.01.2022 This Crikey article is spot-on. It nails what the Liberals' motives really are for attacking superannuation.

11.01.2022 PRIMO WORKERS THREATENED WITH LOCK OUT! JBS has again slammed the door on further negotiations after the union refused to agree to a substandard pay offer. After the last 4 hour stoppage the company contacted the AMIEU and asked to resume negotiations. The members welcomed the offer and in a sign of good faith paused further Industrial action in the hope that an agreement could be made. Unfortunately the company would not budge from its pay offer (that being 2% on approval at... Fair Work and 2% in April 2020). The workers have not had a pay increase since April 2018. With agreements taking so long to be approved it could be two (2) years before workers would see any pay increase! The Union went to the meeting with genuine intention to get an agreement and offered a compromise (2.5% on a yes vote and 2.5% in April 2020). The companys only offer was a further gift card of $290 to be paid at approval of the agreement. The members again requested the Union to give notice to the company of another 4 hours stoppage for Friday 29th November. The company responded yesterday - telling workers whoever participates in strike action will be locked out on Monday. It is astonishing that JBS - while announcing record profits - not only refuses to give their workers a fair pay increase...they now threaten to lock them out! JBS is the worlds largest meat processing company. They announced in their latest financial reports that JBS delivered record results with net revenue the highest revenue EVER RECORDED by the company worth approximately $65 Billion. Further, the report states Primo Foods, the companys packaged food business in Australia and New Zealand, continued to lead the market, driving consumer behaviour through innovation and promoting strong results consistent with the companys expectations. Workers are askingif we cant get a decent pay increase at a time when the company is doing well and announcing record profits, when will we ever get one? Now the company want to lock out struggling workers many of whom are only on 12 cents an hour above Award rates. How bad are our laws when a giant, multi-billion dollar, multi-national company can get away with stamping all over workers the way they are? We need a government which will stand up for working people!

11.01.2022 For my entire professional career, conservative politicians in particular have seized on the "rogue union" to then legislate laws which suppress employee barga...ining power. 10.01.2022 A Brief Message From AMIEU Branch Secretary Matt Journeaux about Labour Day 2020

09.01.2022 BREAKING: The Queensland Council of Unions has put community health and safety foremost in its decision to cancel this years Labour Day marches and mass gather...ings due to the risk of #coronavirus. The thousands of workers proudly participating in Labour Day marches will include the health workers, firefighters, teachers, those ensuring community safety and delivering services, and the retail and transport workers who keep our economy humming. Queenslands community response to coronavirus needs to have these essential workers healthy and fit and able to act and respond to community need. 07.01.2022 Today we learnt more about the federal Coalition’s proposed new workplace laws. Incredibly, these laws allow for non-monetary benefits to be included as incom...e in workplace agreements. The current wage theft laws don’t allow food and drink to replace wages but these laws will allow it. These proposed changes are extreme and will seriously tip the balance in favour of the bosses if they pass the Parliament. Say NO to these dangerous laws. 05.01.2022 Three weeks ago the Morrison Government wouldnt even consider the notion of a wage subsidy. We didnt take no for an answer. This means people will be able to ...put food on the table. This means people will be able to self-isolate safely. This means people will be able to focus on the things that matter in a really scary time. This is a huge win for workers across the country. Congratulations to every worker and every unionist who made their voice heard. We still have some ground to cover for casual and visa workers. We will fight for every worker in this country, throughout this crisis. Were in this together.
