21.01.2022 From Tibet, fleeing persecution, what could be a greater gift to our community in the middle of a pandemic, than new neighbours like Dolkat who bring a sense of... urgency to wanting to be involved. Cleaners like Dolkat, are essential front line workers in this pandemic. We need them, and perhaps more so than they need to be here. #MyNewNeighbour

20.01.2022 Today the Council of Attorneys-General met and discussed whether or not to #RaiseTheAge of criminal responsibility from 10 years old to 14. Ive just read the Council of Attorneys-General communique. Its a disappointing, and frankly lazy, response to the enormous amount of evidence put before them in support of raising the age. They wrote: Participants noted the Working Groups work to date and noted that the Working Group identified the need for further work to occur regar...ding the need for adequate processes and services for children who exhibit offending behaviour. This is really disappointing. But this campaign is far from over. We wont stop until kids are out of prisons all over the country. First Nations people have been fighting for justice for a long time. We released polling today that shows we have the support of the majority of Australians who understand that prison is no place for a child. We worked on this research with the Australia Institute and it shows that not only do the majority of Australians support raising the age, but they want politicians to start making decisions based on medical evidence - not fear-mongering - and to invest social services, public housing and health care instead of locking kids up.[1] We are building a movement for change. So far 135,870 people have signed our petition calling on governments to #RaiseTheAge. Our campaign has been led by Aboriginal legal services, Indigenous Doctors Association, Australian Medical Association, Human Rights Centre, lawyers, doctors, human rights advocates and so many more. Thank you for being part of it. While the Attorneys-General didnt reach a national agreement today, nothing is stopping each state and territory from showing leadership and changing their own laws to keep very young children out of prison. That is what were calling on them to do. Ill be in touch soon with next steps. But for now, thank you so much for being part of this huge groundswell for change. Yours in determination, Sophie Trevitt Executive Officer - Change the Record [1] You can read our research here: https://changetherecord.org.au/raisetheage

20.01.2022 Today, we continue to take back control of our land. So we can keep Standing Our Ground, we need to demonstrate the widespread support for our actions. You can help by taking a moment to post a solidarity photo. Step 1. Make a "#StandingOurGround with Wangan and Jagalingou people" sign Step 2. Take a photo of yourself standing strong Step 3. Post it on your social media accounts with #StandingOurGround

13.01.2022 The Morrison Government is today attempting to pass new laws that would give sweeping, unchecked powers to the Minister for Home Affairs to ban almost any item ...in immigration detention, including mobile phones. Removing phones will rip away peoples ability to communicate with family and friends, stay connected with their community and access legal representation. Parliament must reject this attack on transparency.

11.01.2022 Refugees and asylum seekers have been detained in Australia’s cruel offshore detention regime for more than 7 years. Hundreds more are detained in limbo on Aust...ralian soil. In 2013, New Zealand made an offer to resettle these people. The Australian Government continues to refuse this offer. We're in Canberra today, handing over more than 60,000 petition signatures calling #GameOver on offshore detention. Scott Morrison and the Government have a solution right in front of them and we need them to take it now.
