25.01.2022 Gold Letter Day Today was the day 24-ct leaf was placed using a horse-hair brush in Gold’s position on V&M’s Periodic Table, with a champagne toast thrown in for the near completion of this ‘monumental’ work by Araluen artist and stone carver Ian Marr. For us, Ian’s Periodic Table provides a perfect connection with the base metals used in V&M’s hand-making and upcycling. It will be much shared with friends, family and the community. The appropriate elements white gold and copper leaf will also highlight Silver (Ag) and Copper (Cu) on the carved slate tabletop. The spot price of gold on Australian markets this morning was $2751.68 per ounce, which makes V&M’s Christmas range of brass bangles amazingly affordable and, at $60 for the thin brass bangle and $80 for the brass flat bangle, unlike gold, these don’t have to be hidden under the bed or stashed under armed guard in the vault. 14.01.2022 V&M’s Periodic Table featured in this week’s issue of Braidwood’s local newspaper ‘Changing Times’. The first of these incredible Ian Marr artworks was presented to the late Len Evans of winemaking fame, another installed at a Mudgee vineyard, is considered so ‘earthed’ that some locals practice yoga upon the tabletop. Ours will be used principally for good old fashioned food and vino. It’s an upcycler’s dream when an old wooden boat builder decides to have a clean up and gifts boxes of assorted solid brass fixings - nuts, bolts, washers, screws - to the V&M workshop. He knows from previous dealings that they will be put to damn good use. As per the interlinked brushed brass earrings pictured, formed on the workshop today from this boat builder’s batch. We are appreciative of the constant supply of old copper and brass ware...s now coming our way and exchanged for more than the scrap value in V&M jewellery. Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council today confirmed V&M has been awarded a $3000 grant entitled ‘Marketing Support, Online and E-Commerce Development’, for V&M’s ‘Bush Merchants and Makers’ marketing concept. This involves the creation of a national network of like-minded entrepreneurial regional merchants (many of them, like V&M, using cash flow to re-purpose redundant commercial heritage buildings - as per this image - and who are helping ...to reinvigorate their local economies). Bush Merchants, like V&M, who primarily promote Australian makers’ product, are more often than not the front line of unprecedented tourism interest in the regional hand-making ethos. Increasingly, the Bush Merchants and Makers are central to the promotion of the best of their catchments’ shopping, accommodation, dining, coffee, tourism and other services.
