24.01.2022 Gooseneck A gooseneck tap is my favourite for the kitchen. The shape means you can easily fit big pans and boards in the sink. My last post has lots of tips for choosing a good, practical kitchen tap, so check it out. Interior design: @ampersand_studio_ Photo: @inwardoutward

18.01.2022 Groovy baby You've heard the term 'V-groove', but what is it exactly? Traditional V-groove is made up of timber planks with a chamfered edge. They fit together and the result looks like a V-shape between the boards. Today V-groove is also available in sheets. V-groove is a simple yet timeless design for when you want a bit of texture on your walls. It can add character and soul to a room. In this photo, the ceiling would be big and bland, but w...e used V-groove to add texture and detail. V-groove has a coastal feel, so it was a fitting choice for this seaside home. So, how groovy are you ? Do you like V-groove? Interior design: @ampersand_studio_ Architect: @scopearchitects Build: @gmcconstructions_nsw Photo: @inwardoutward See more

15.01.2022 You use it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. So here are my top tips: Durable Your tap needs to take a lot of punishment, and not just from washing baking trays. Kids can sometimes hang off the tap to climb up to the sink! So go for the best quality your budget allows. ... Gooseneck This shape goes up and curls over, and it allows you to get a big chopping board or bucket under there (impossible with a tap that sticks straight out). But, be wary of the really tall statement taps, because sometimes when water is falling from a great height it can splash everywhere. Swivel A great function so you can move the water point around the sink, eg. to fill up a glass over to the side. You can also place a pot on the edge of the sink, swivel the tap, then fill it hands-free. One-handed A one-handed lever is really useful because you can turn it on with your elbow or the back of your hand. Great when cooking with dirty or greasy hands. Pull-out Not a deal breaker for me, but a pull-out nozzle is worth considering. Some people love them for cleaning the corners of the sink, etc. But be aware, once the nozzle is out, some are fiddly to put back in. Fancy Filtered Lately filtered taps have become more popular in homes. This is an additional tap that can do a combo of boiled/chilled/sparkling water. No more waiting for the kettle to boil, in fact, you can ditch the kettle all together. The down side: they are expensive and the elements take up a lot of room under the sink. I hope this is helpful. If you want to keep this info for when you're doing your kitchen, remember to tap the 'save' flag. See more

13.01.2022 Are you confused about all the choices for your kitchen cabinets? Here's a brief overview of the most common ones, from budget to most expensive. (Note, I'm only talking about the fronts of the drawers and cupboards, not the carcass/frame.) Melamine The most budget friendly. It looks similar to laminate, so be careful because sometimes people think they are the same. But melamine is not as durable, sometimes the edges can peel, hence the lower co...st. Laminate You can choose from lots of different finishes and textures, including timber-look. It’s quite economical if you stick to the standard ranges, but it can get expensive if you want something special. There are now finger-print-resistant laminates, but these come at a premium. Laminate doors need edging so it's not a seamless look, and the edging can be vulnerable to chipping. Vinyl wrap This product has come a long way since the 1970s. It wraps around the door so there’s no edging, creating a continuous look. This also means it’s durable on the edges. There are lots of different designs, including timber-look, but you can’t have custom colours. Polyurethane Or ‘poly’, it's also sometimes called '2-pac'. It's generally a bit more expensive than vinyl-wrap. It is sprayed on (like car paint) so there is no need for edging, and it has a seamless look. It’s very durable on the surfaces but the edges can chip, especially if they are thin. The benefit of poly is you can choose or match any colour you like. Timber Veneer This is a thin sheet of real timber, just a couple of of mm thick, applied to the boards. It can look amazing. But this premium look comes with a premium price. As always, I'm happy to ask any questions. And if you want to keep this info for when you're doing your kitchen, remember to tap the 'save' flag below. See more

10.01.2022 A bit unoriginal, but happy hump day! May your day be light and bright with just the right amount of texture

08.01.2022 The cutest towels ever! My client chose these to compliment the beautiful minty-coloured feature wall. Yes, cat love eyes are entirely necessary .

07.01.2022 Real life It's great to get inspiration from magazines, Pinterest, Instagram but be aware, some of these spaces are styled to within an inch of their lives. Did you know, during a photoshoot for a glossy magazine, the stylists often move furniture so it looks good for the shot, even if it's impractical? I heard a story about a lounge that was moved so it looked great for the photos, but it completely blocked access to the bathroom! ... Obviously, there are degrees of this, and the base line is when people are coming over so you wizz around your house and throw things into cupboards. We've all done it. Homes have to be lived in, so when designing, I look for ways to make things practical. Think about some of the things that are part of your daily home life: dishes on the drying rack, school bags on the floor, piles of paperwork, a massive handball collection (maybe just my house). Look for practical ways to manage these: get a nice dish rack so you don't mind seeing it all the time, choose joinery with room for school bags, create a hidden nook for paperwork, and get a nice basket for the ten-thousand handballs praying your kids grow out of it . 03.01.2022 Happy Sunday! May your day be as comfortable as these appliances nestled in the corner. Kitchens get busy pretty quickly and it's not nice having lots of clutter around, but appliances don't always have to be hidden. If you create the right spaces for them, they can look quite cute! Like these guys: two little buddies, sitting there happily, just waiting to help you . Interior design: @ampersand_studio_ Photo: @inwardoutward

03.01.2022 Delight The 'Crowded Room' rug from @stephenormandy and @designerrugs . The colour is so delightful! It’s a party in my eyeballs. Welcome to the weekend .

02.01.2022 Soft-close You know how it's really annoying when your kid deliberately slams the door? Make sure you use soft-close in the kitchen so they can't be slamming around there too! Seriously, it's a game changer. Get the drawer runners AND the door hinges. And get the best quality your budget allows because your kitchen has to take a beating. Now, if only they made soft-close for kids' bedroom doors too!
